I would never use them again

I would never use them again! When you question their “terms” they tell you, it was in your contract. A contract you don’t get a copy of so you have nothing to reference. They don’t communicate within their departments. We have the salesperson two phone numbers and specific directions for delivery. They called the WRONG number of the two and had NONE of the deliveries details we gave at the time of the reservation. We were charged extra fees we weren’t told that we would be charged. This company is out to rip you off! Stay away!!! They charged us about $300 more then we were quoted and when I called to get an explanation I was told, it was in your contract. I requested a copy of my contract. I never received a copy!

STAW AWAY FROM THEM

The day of the move they forgot about us. I had to call them. I was told they could not locate the movers..(which was a 3rd party moving company). They showed up hours late.. (5:30 pm). They began to pack the pod. Then at a certain point they stopped and demanded us to pay them cash money. Over $300.00 to finish packing the pod. I already paid for the whole thing.. from loading, storing and unpacking. I told them no.. they did not like that. I had to tell them to finish packing our stuff. I agreed to have our stuff sent to our new house on a certain day, it never happened. I was told it could not be done.. even though I was told it could. Then I was told it could on another day,, it did not happen.. then another day it did not happen. This went on for several days. Our stuff showed up several days late. At one point I was told our stuff was in the new state we moved to.. only to find out it was not. I was also told it was on its way when it was not.. It was still in the state we moved out of. Finally when our stuff got to our new house we had some items that where broken. We filed a clam.. they told us it was not their fault. That the items could not have broken while it was in the pod. The 3rd party movers packed it into the pod.. it was locked. It was moved down to us.. it was unloaded .. the items were broken. They were not broken before the move.. now they are, but according to packrat they did not do it. If it is like the items just broke on their own. From day one of the move to the last day of the move was a HUGE headache. I would not recommend to anyone..

Lies and threats

I was offered a rental extension rate of $159 (with no other fees), and I agreed to that amount. Later, I was charged $249.49 instead. When I contacted customer service, they confirmed that the notes from my call show the $159 rate was agreed upon, yet they still refused to honor it, still demanding that I pay $90 more in fees each month. Stating there is “no possible way” to adjust it.

Even more concerning, I was told that if I don’t continue paying the higher amount, they could take my belongings. Being charged more than the agreed rate and then threatened over it is unacceptable.

If a company’s own call notes confirm the lower agreed price, it should be honored. I expected transparency and integrity, and instead I was met with inconsistency and pressure.

I would strongly caution others against using this company.

Moving from Seattle

Moving from Seattle, Washington to Fayetteville Arkansas container arrived in Springdale 2/16, schedule delivery 2/17. No calls from the local Warehouse delivery container not delivered. Nobody can tell me when it will even be delivered.

Significant damage after long-term storage; claim denied without inspection

I used 1-800-PACK-RAT for interstate moving and long-term, climate-controlled storage, which I paid for over an extended period. I also used their loading service.

Upon delivery, I discovered significant impact damage and material degradation across multiple items. Some damage was inconsistent with proper handling, and other damage was inconsistent with what should occur in climate-controlled storage.

I documented the damage immediately with photos and video and submitted a claim. Despite this, both my claim and appeal were denied without any on-site inspection or independent evaluation of the damaged contents.

Given that the company had exclusive custody of my belongings during storage, I expected a good-faith claims process. That did not occur. I am now pursuing resolution through formal legal channels.

Posting this review factually so others evaluating long-term storage and claims handling practices can make an informed decision.

This company is horrible at proper…

This company is horrible at proper planning, and their customer service is even worse.

In December 2025, I reserved a 12-foot storage pod to be placed on my garage driveway. This size was specifically chosen because it was the largest unit that could fit without violating HOA rules. Anything larger or extending to the side was not acceptable.

Three days later, on the scheduled delivery date, I received a call — not from customer service, a manager, or a dispatcher — but from the delivery driver, informing me that no 12-foot units were available and that the only option was a 16-foot pod. There was no advance notice whatsoever, despite the fact that construction activities had already been scheduled and began that same day.

I explained to the driver that a 16-foot unit was not possible and asked him to escalate the issue internally. Instead, he told me to call the company myself. Unbelievable. A company failure was pushed onto the customer to resolve.

When I contacted Pack Rat directly, I was told there were no 12-foot units anywhere and that delivery would need to be delayed by several days — again, completely unacceptable given the circumstances. After hours of waiting, I was finally told they “found” a 12-footer and would deliver it later that day.

The pod arrived around 1:00 PM, even though it was originally scheduled for 8:00 AM. When it arrived, I was stunned by its condition — bent, badly beaten up, and scratched, which is a serious issue in an HOA-regulated community. The driver then informed me (for the first time) that the unit had been pulled from their junk yard and had been out of service for months. No one from Pack Rat ever disclosed this to me beforehand.

Because of this, I had to urgently request a special exception from my HOA, providing a detailed explanation just to allow this damaged unit on my driveway. Thankfully, approval was granted — otherwise, the entire project would have been shut down.

Later that day, customer service acknowledged the ordeal and agreed to a partial cost reduction. However, one month later, I was charged the full price for the second month. When I called to dispute the charge, I was told:

1)That I had “agreed to the charges,” and

2)That I was “offered a replacement and refused”

Both statements are completely false. It became clear that Pack Rat documented only a version that benefited them, placing all blame on the customer while ignoring their own failures in planning, communication, escalation, and transparency.

This was a terrible experience from start to finish — poor planning, no advance notice, unacceptable equipment condition, no internal escalation process, and ultimately blaming the customer for the company’s mistakes. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

THEY CHARGE YOU FOR EVERY LITTLE THING! BE CAREFUL AND FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE GETTING INTO! They only tell you about thier monthly pricing what they don't tell you is about all thier fees that is in the fine print. There is a pick up fee, a delivery fee, a fee for picking up the empty container, a fee for sneezing in the wrong direction....I requested for my empty container to be picked up on the 5th of the month and because I requested pick up online and did not call TEN DAYS in advance for pickup of the EMPTY container I was charged for an additional month. The fees for moving is almost as much and the monthly rate for having the dang container. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND USING THIS COMPANY. When we did call we were usually waiting for someone to pick up the phone. We routinely waited 30 to 45 mintues for someone to help us. The final straw was in order to request to get the empty container out of my yard I had to pay the balance, which I was fine with. What I was NOT ok with was that they used my card that was on file to pay for another container ( my mother's) without my consent. They just charged my card because it was there. I DID NOT AUTHORIZE THEM TO DO THAT!! Pay very close attention to this company if you decide to use them. Personally I would avoid them at all cost.

HORRENDOUS customer service!

HORRENDOUS customer service!! took me 45 minutes on hold to speak to someone just to cancel my move with them. I decided not to use this company after reading all of the horrible reviews and after my experience dealing with their awful customer service, I am thankful that I did decide to go with another company.
I initially waited on hold to speak to someone for 45 minutes. After finally reaching a live representative, they told me they don't handle cancellations and would need to transfer me. After waiting an additional 25 minutes I finally got in touch with another agent who helped me confirm my cancellation. If this kind of service is any indication how they treat their customers, I am thankful I read the online reviews and found out exactly how awful they truly are. Do NOT believe the reviews on the Pack-Rat site, as those must be be written by friends and family since they are only positive. I will not be using them for my move nor recommending them to anyone after this experience.

You should not have to wait over an hour on the phone just to cancel your reservation. The Dashboard within the online account should allow customers to cancel the order themselves. They force you to call into their horrible customer service center just to tell them you want to cancel your move. HORRIBLE!!!

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

I called Pack Rat multiple times to change my trailer to a 8 ft container and got transfer around 4 times with extreme long hold time.I told the representative that I have disabiility then transfer me to the loyalty department when I got transfered the rep stated I have personal issues.I am hearing impaired.I am filing a lawsuit for disabiility discrimination because I should not be treated like a time share customer.I contacted Department of transportation and other federal agency.I am moving on Government orders.I also reported them to my security team.

I paid them $6,000 to move a container…

I paid them $6,000 to move a container across the country. They say 10 business days but it’s been 15 days and they’re calling to inform of a delay. Don’t even say why, just sorry for the inconvenience. Steer clear of this place if you value commitment.

Just look at their comment. They don’t care. I mean I’ve already called them.

They can't wait to charge you more without notification

They charge you without advance notification for a full month of storage $433.60 if you're even one day late on the container pick up. Their service for this matter sucks. This policy is BS. They are happy to charge you more on top of the fee they already charged you with.

The company is not good with…

The company is not good with communication, they picked up my pod today for a 600 mile destination for delivery on Oct 16th ,I've called many times today with huge waiting times ,one guy was very rude!
I asked if they could deliver the 15th instead, absolutely not, today is the 6th! They charged me $75 over the agreement price! I've never been treated so badly with a baited style of business. I should have gone with the bigger pod company, I was warned!!

Very disappointing experience with this…

Very disappointing experience with this company. We were supposed to have an 8 foot container delivered on a Friday and picked up the next day to arrive at our destination on a specific date. We had next to no communication about an estimated arrival time for the container, and did not receive it until about 7:30 pm. It also turns out that they had run out of 8 foot containers, so we got a 16 footer instead. Not a huge deal, but did require a little more effort from us to secure everything given all the empty space in the large container.

Well, we got it all packed and ready, then received a call about midday on Saturday delaying pickup until Monday because all their trucks were supposedly being repaired. After the container was finally picked up on Monday, we were then told it would arrive at our destination late. With 10 days to travel about 800 miles, you'd think they could make that time up somewhere along the way, but apparently not.

After all of these hassles, we were then hit with a $200 transportation surcharge. Information about this was buried in an order confirmation email, but it was most certainly not mentioned by the sales rep, even after I inquired if there would be any other taxes or additional fees added to their quote.

I am giving them a second star because the transportation surcharge was eventually refunded (but only after two phone calls and an email), and the drivers at our destination dropped off and picked up the container efficiently.

1800PACKRAT did provide a competitive rate, but unless you are willing to put up with a variety of inconveniences to save money, I would steer clear.

If I could give LESS than 1 star I would. This company is the biggest cluster fu€k ever. Customer service does not know what they’re doing and will tell you one thing while the clueless storage and delivery facility is totally unreliable. After having pods scheduled for delivery, they cancelled because their fork lift was broken ( only have one???) We had to cancel the scheduled movers, and spend the weekend in an empty house as our short term rental lease was up. To speak to anyone, plan on being hold for hours.( make sure you have a fully charged phone. You’ll need it)
….and OH IT GETS WORSE. After telling us our pod delivery would be delayed until Monday, we get a call on Sat at 7am that the pods would be there in 20 min. We RUSH to the new house to see an empty truck. The driver is there to PICK UP a pod?!? Pick up WHAT pod??? Again customer service says it’s on the way…oh no it isn’t… it will be Sunday…. Oh no it will probably be Monday.
We Will NEVER do business with them again
I hope their employees have future jobs lined up as I can see that this company is headed for bankruptcy. . If you are considering using Pack Rat, RUN!

I would strongly caution anyone…

I would strongly caution anyone considering 1-800-PACK-RAT. I used them to move materials from my showroom and purchased their insurance specifically because the rep assured me it would cover any damage that occurred during the move. I even asked detailed questions about how to properly pack everything, and the rep explained how the units stay level ("straight up and over") so items wouldn’t shift or fall.

Despite following their instructions, I ended up with over $10,000 in damages to quartz countertops, kitchen cabinets, and a hardware display. When I filed a claim, I promptly submitted all the documentation and photos they requested. Still, they denied the claim, saying it was due to “improper packing.” I followed their guidance exactly.

I appealed the decision, thinking there must’ve been a misunderstanding—but without asking for any new information or clarification, they denied it again, claiming they had done a "thorough investigation." That’s simply not true—they based their decision solely on the materials I provided. They did nothing to verify or investigate further.

This entire process has been extremely disappointing, and I feel misled and ignored. If you’re considering using 1-800-PACK-RAT and expect their insurance to protect your belongings, think twice. Their coverage is essentially useless, and their customer support is anything but helpful.

Damaged Driveway - twice now

My container was delivered 10 days late, was charged misc fees which were then immediately removed when questioned. I specifically asked the drop off driver to use blocks before placing container on our BRAND NEW driveway (used Packrat once before and not placing blocks resulted in damage then as well) - he said he didn't need to - the result was 2 gashes in our driveway. I filed a claim which of course Pack Rat denied. Twice now I have trusted them to move my things, and twice I have had damaged driveways due to refusing to use blocks and Packrat will do nothing to remedy. The damage both times came from the laziness of their drivers to place blocks down instead of directly on driveway.

Good customer service and reasonable prices

The customer service rep we booked through was thorough and explained accurately what we should expect and the cost. The pod was delivered when they said, picked up when they said and dropped off when they said. They had to leave the pod an extra day due to difficulties on their end but we were not charged for that. I would use them again.

Terrible service...

This company doesn't deserve to even receive one star. Completely regret using Pack Rat. I moved from Florida to California and my container was supposed to arrive in 2 weeks. I called 2 days before the arrival date to confirm that it was on schedule and they said yes it would be delivered on time. Come the day of drop off, they never showed up. I took the day off work, hired movers, and all they could say was that they didn't have a driver and the warehouse would have my container delivered the next day. Absolutely unacceptable service. If they didn't have a driver, they should have called so that I could rearrange my schedule and the movers. Customer service is terrible and unhelpful. They don't hold their end of the contract and don't care about the inconvenience it causes. Moving is already stressful enough without the added expenses. I will never use this service again.

Horrible experience so far

Booked date of 03/19/25 for a long distance move from Colorado to Florida - One 16ft Pod.
Scheduled delivery of on the of 30th of May.
After rushing to pack the pod for the long distance move to Florida to meet our deadline and making sure with customer service that they could pick up on 06/06/25 and shipped with the timeline of 10 business days.

On the original pick date, I logged into my account and seen that the pick up date changed to 9th without my knowledge.

I called customer service and spoke with someone who stated that the drivers couldn’t get that day and it needs to move. So it need got moved to the 9th, a little frustrated I accepted and was promised it would be picked up on the 9th.
The 9th came, and after sitting around all day, I called customer service again who stated it would be picked up between “330-730”. Again frustrated I said okay and waited, 730 came and still didn’t get picked up.

I called customer service AGAIN who stated “they couldn’t get to it today but they will be there on the 10th first thing in the morning”

The 10th came, still no one showed up I called customer service again who stated “I called the driver and they assured me your pod will be picked up between 12-2.”

So again I waited from 12-2, no one showed up or called. Called customer service Again who stated “pick up times are subject to change”
Then comes back after putting me on hold saying “no is answering” so you have to wait.

My POD is still hasn’t been picked up 5 days after the original scheduled appointment.

This company is horrible, the customer service is trash , the communication is terrible, they don’t help you and just push you off to the customer service agent.
