Driving experience

Had a cool day driving at Dundsford Surrey. Got to drive 3 super cars and got to experience the radical which was quiet fun also. Favourite of the day was the Audi R8 followed by the Lamborghini then Porsche.

Wouldn't let it go...

I've been twice to Anglesey for the triple supercar experience. The first time I went there were absolutely not issues whatsoever and I had an amazing day.
The second time was also very good...except for what happened at the start. The bloke who signs you in and checks your licence, well he was an absolute c*nt We didn't want to pay for track insurance, track insurance is optional. It is not required. And we didn't want it as it costs a lot on top of what you've already paid anyway. Also the instructor in the car has dual pedals anyway so that's another reason why you shouldn't pay for insurance. The first time I went I did not pay for the insurance, the very polite woman at the check in desk asked me if I wanted to pay for it. I politely declined, and that was the end of that. But the bloke today would not let it go for the life of him. He was on a mission to sell us the insurance, even after me and my dad told him multiplie times each that we didn't want it, he was still insisting we paid for it. This actually went on for a good 10 minutes. He wanted to sell it to us if it was the last thing he ever did. He could not take "NO" for an answer. This is where me and even my dad became not so polite. And it takes a lot to get me enraged enough to have a go at someone. And I mean a lot. But he managed to get my blood boiling. He was rude and both myself and my dad looked at one another and just laughed at one point because he just wouldn't let it go. Eventually my dad basically said "mate, you need to stop now, just stop, I've had enough with you now." That's when he finally gave up. He then started to be more polite and respectful, but he ruined the first part of the experience. But besides that, everything else went really smoothly and it was a good day out. But some people take things way too far. Just like that bloke did.

Hi Luke, we're so glad to see that you enjoyed your experience driving our supercars and we do hope that you will be returning again in the future. We do apologise that you felt that the member of staff came across in this way. All of our staff are trained to ensure that all customers are aware of the risks involved in participating in the experience without taking out the additional cover. The waiver is an optional add-on which can be declined if you wished to. Although we certainly do not agree with the obscenity that you called him, we will be making sure that this doesn't happen going forward.
Driver Registration is the first point of contact for all customers so we're aware that any issues/disagreements that take place in there can leave a sour taste, so we're very sorry that this was the case.
As stated, we're glad that you did enjoy the experience as a whole and we do hope to see you back with us in the near future.

Great Day

Had an amazing day at Stafford. Drove the Ferrari 458 and was instructed by David (who was funny and a very good instructor). Would recommend.

Hidden charges

Great experience and well organised. A lot of exploitation with extra costs for insurance £35, headphones £2, memory stick £45, lots of upgrades all costing you so beware.

Review for 6th gear at castle Combe

Review for 6th gear at castle Combe. I had a lap driving the circuit in a Aston Martin and one in a Lamborghini. The instructors are great and really encourage you to get the most out of the car and the track. It made the experience unforgettable. Also make sure to do a hot lap with one of the drivers, I did mine in the focus rs and the driver was incredible, very fun. Great day out

Overall a good experience

I have to say the transaction was smooth, the day was great, instructor Stuart was fab and I enjoyed the day. My only negative was my voucher was an exchange as couldn’t get the Rally experience bought for me, so there was £40 I couldn’t use and not even credit to use against another experience.

They just don’t respond at all after cancelling our booking

They cancelled our booking because of Covid and since then they have simply not replied to any and all contact we have made. We’ve remained 100% courteous and polite in all our message but they just don’t respond at all. EVER! We’ve been trying for ages to get in touch via their email address. They just refuse to answer or respond to us at all. I’ve tried, my husband has tried. NOTHING. I cannot recommend an organisation that places so little value in customer service that their chosen response is just to completely IGNORE us. Such a shame as my young son was so excited to receive this experience as a gift and even if they chose not to honour our booking, they could at least have the decency to respond to any of our messages and let us know. Disappointed.

(The date of experience was just entered as the box required an entry - our “experience” was cancelled by 6th Gear)

UPDATE: despite the company’s suggestion that they have responded / given us options to rebook …… they never actually responded to ANY contact from us. Likewise when trying to phone, an automated message told us they were too busy to take phone calls. We gave up trying ages ago and have accepted that this company has taken payment but has no intention of delivering the service. A child WAS very excited - but unfortunately was never able to take part.

Hi Emma, we're confused as to why we have received this review - we contacted yourself and your husband most recently in 2022 confirming we had dates available throughout 2022 that we could rebook your sons experience for - but we didn't receive a response from either of you confirming which date you wanted to rebook the experience in for. All you need to do is call the office on: 01675 433 800 and the Customer Service Team can attempt to get the booking re-arranged for you.

Voucher not 6 months long. In reality it's 3.

Voucher bought for my son's 21st birthday. Not by me. Valid for 6 months only - to take the experience NOT to use the voucher. Email reminder that voucher was expiring so I called. Have to pay £30 to extend (on £49 voucher). I had to have booked it 3 months ago, I was informed so voucher life in reality only 3 months long. Unhelpful, rude, dismissive. Book direct with the track. I hate these gift experiences. Licence to print money.

Hi Helen,

The £49.00 covered you to have an experience within 6 months from the date of purchase, which is all clearly advertised on the voucher itself. We also clearly have dates published on the website, with clear instructions to allow between 8-12 weeks' notice due to popularity of events. Unfortunately you called with 2 weeks of the voucher left meaning we had no availability. The validity of the voucher can be extended for a £30.00 cost which would have allowed you a further 4 months to complete the experience.

Our Customer Service Rep had to terminate the call previously due to the nature in which you were speaking to her, however if you did wish to extend the voucher you're still able to by calling our Customer Service Team with voucher details. This must be done before the voucher expires.

I would give them 0 if I could. My experienced was delayed due to COVID. They claimed they had sent emails on two occasions about rebooking. Having checked, these did not arrive. Apparently there is no chance of booking now. Very disappointing.

Experience let down by rude woman at desk

The woman called Tracy at the desk was extremely rude, which unfortunately put a negative view on the day. The guy on the desk next to her was very calm and understood why we were upset. He dealt with it a lot better than she did. Instead she turned to speaking down to us. The attitude of the drivers was completely different as they couldn’t do enough for us. But, her lack of customer service ruined the experience for us.

Booked for my daughter and thought we got a good cheap deal but its the case of a £30 voucher deal they then want £20 to cancel, £30 admin fee to change, £25 for photos and £25 insurance fees!! So your £30 hour for your children has now changed! Your much much’ better off going with a respectable company that have some empathy with customers instead of rude attitudes! The management are shocking! I would 100% avoid and check other reviews before you commit. The reviews were that bad on social media they have turned them off!!

Hi, Thank you for taking your time to write a review, we would however like to provide some clarity on some of the points you have made:

All of the information that you have provided us with is clearly advertised on both our website, and in the booking confirmation that had been sent to you back in August. As with most companies who offer these types of experiences, within 30 days of an event taking place any changes do incur an administration cost. We had offered you a cancellation cover when you booked the experience which was declined as you didn't wish to pay anymore, despite your circumstances.

We have been in touch with this customer directly who informed our Customer Service Agent that he will be "bombarding us with negative reviews" if he was unable to change the date of the experience free of charge. Which is exactly what has happened here sadly. As a company, we have terms in place for all customers to ensure everyone is treated fairly.

Your voucher was purchased through a third party company, so you may wish to speak to them.

Kids supercar experience

I had booked the kids supercar experience for my 12 year old son. This gift was from Christmas 2021. There was a long wait from booking but not a massive problem, its obviously popular.
On the day my son was a little nervous. On arrival the signage of where to go to book in wasn't clear but we eventually found the office. It was very busy, not what I expected. We spoke to a young lady who booked in my son. She then noted that I had not paid for insurance and preceeded to tell me and my 12 year old that if he was to hit a red cone or a stone was to hit the car I would be liable to pay £5000. Looking at the fear on my sons face, obviously I paid. My question is, at what point would you let the parent give the car a check before you tell them they owe £5000 for damages? Certainly no opportunity that I could see. One of the cars (not sure what model) had the rear lights smashed.
We went towards the race track, again no real signage and due to the rain not many people to ask where to go. Then you're in a queue until your name is called. Once called they have a quick picture and a 2-3 minute chat/lesson. I needed to tell someone he was nervous but it was so rushed and with barriers I couldn't speak to anyone. Thank fully he told the instructor himself. Another few minutes and he was done, poor, no time. I know that I read terms and conditions but didn't take much into account as it says leave 2hrs for the day which leads you to think that time is spent with your child, well more than five minutes anyway. Also there is information about the waiver but to discuss and put the fear of God in to a 12 year olds head, of course there's a chance he'd hit a cone he's 12 with no driving experience. Clever, they know exactly what they're doing.
Next the 3 mile trip around the race course. Now on booking in I was led to believe that his experience was in a lamborghini, however do not be fooled, it was in a Ford focus! But if you wish to pay an extra £15 you can switch to a ferrari or other supercar choice. On the paperwork received before I do not think this was made clear.
I can say that the 7-8 minutes he actually spent in the car he enjoyed. The certificate you are meant to receive at the end, again you don't, it's sent to your email for you to print off at home.
I feel they need to be a bit more cautious with advertising, if I had been aware of time actually spent in the car, or for him to made special for the hour or two it would have been worth the £84 I spent in the end. However it is not the case. Not worth the money or the experience.

Hi, Thank you for taking your time to write a review, I would however like to provide some clarity on some of the points you have made:
Firstly, as you mention, our events are very popular so unfortunately some form of queuing upon arrival is inevitable.
Also, as explained our insurance cover, whilst highly recommended, is optional. All eventualities are explained in order for you to be able to make an informed decision on whether or not to purchase the cover.
Furthermore, we understand that most, if not all of our teen drivers will be nervous before their experience. All of our staff are highly experienced and trained to deal with such circumstances and settle nerves of new drivers. It goes without saying, that we barrier off area’s to ensure safety of staff and customers alike.
You also mention you were led to believe your sons ‘hot lap’ was in a Lamborghini. This is an issue of which should be taken up with the company where the voucher was purchased from, in this case I believe Activity Superstore. As they sold the experience to you, 6th Gear Experience merely provided the Experience. Your comment regarding ‘caution with advertising’ may also be mentioned to Activity Superstore, the company of which the advertising was provided.

I am however glad to hear that your son enjoyed the time he spent in the car and would recommend booking vouchers directly through www.6thgearexperience.com in future for complete clarity and best prices.

Had a fantastic experience at Elvington, York with 6th Gear today 12/11/22. Well organised and I felt like in the movie Fast and furious 😜 . I drove Lamborghini LP570 Super first 6 laps and Audi R8 V10. Highly recommended .

Elvington 4 car drive

Arrived in good time at Elvington to be met by friendly staff... day was explained clearly.... one car time overlapped with another.... not a problem the staff simply put me in another car of my choice and moved my times around.... well organised day run smoothly,friendly informative instructors....
It's easy stop spend alot of money on upgrades, and media packages.... but this is your choice with no pressure from staff to do so.

Very disappointed.

Very disappointed..
I bought this experience for a friend’s 40th birthday in January 2022.
He gets regular Mondays off work due to owning a restaurant, so I bought the midweek option.
He tried to find a suitable date for the drive without success.
I received an email in July telling me that he needed to book a day before the voucher expired, and to contact customer services.
I spoke to them and explained the situation. I also explained that his wife had just given birth.
The ONLY dates available at Elvington (our nearest track) were 11 or 12 November. They booked him in for the 11th (today). Great!!!
We arrived half an hour before the time I’d been given, to be told that he was not booked in and that I should contact customer services..
I called them. They told me that the voucher had expired because I hadn’t paid the £30 ‘admin fee’ to extend the voucher.. this was not mentioned when I made the booking..
So, within the voucher validity dates, I booked the ONLY possible dates available.. yet had to pay an extension fee of £30.
As we were already there, I had no option but to pay the fee to allow him to use the voucher, (that I’d paid a significant amount for in the first place)..
This is an absolute con.. buy vouchers, with insufficient dates available for you to book and use within the voucher’s validity.. Book a date whilst the voucher is valid, travel to the site, and then be told you have to pay a further fee..
Be very wary!

Hi Clive, Thank you for your time to review. As you have mentioned you purchased a voucher on the 24th if January and it had a 6th month expiry date. (24th of July) We did indeed send you an email on the 10th of July to remind you that the voucher was about to expire. Between the purchase in January and the expiry on the 24th of July we have had 26 events, 6 of which were held at Elvington. To have been booked for 11th November at the point of booking you would have been required to extend your voucher, pay for the extension and received the booking confirmation. We would not make a booking without a valid voucher in place. SO to recap you have had 6 months and 26 events to make use of your voucher, 6 of which were at your chosen location of Elvington but this availability insufficient for you. If you can please send over your booking confirmation and proof of us taking the £30 when you booked the 11th we can take a look into this further. please email info@6thgearexperience.com

Brilliant supercar driving experiences

A brilliant driving experience day. First was the fabulous Ferrari 430 with excellent instructor Andy patiently guiding me round, giving me loads of encouragement. Next up was the Aston Martin DB9 with Derek(?) Such a classy car but I didn't get anywhere near the best out of it. Finally, the Lamborghini Gallardo, which was amazing! I loved every second of my time behind the wheel of this wonderful supercar with Chris B, another terrific instructor. My passenger hot lap in the Radical was with another Andy. Two days later and I'm still recovering...!
The event was well organised and my thanks to the 6th Gear staff who were all really friendly and helpful.
My only criticism (and no reflection on 6th Gear) would be of Castle Combe circuit's facilities. The food in the cafe could be improved, although the hot drinks were fine. The ladies' loos need some tlc (e.g. no lock on one!) and the signage around the facilities area was almost non-existent.

Great day slightly spoilt by staff.

Had a great day at castle coombe yesterday driving 4 of the super cars which was a gift off my partner. Despite the rain and cold it was great fun driving the cars however there were 2 things that were disappointing. I had 3 cars booked originally but added the ferrari 458 italia. The lady selling us the drive said that 2 laps in that car actually meant 6 which sounded great but the reality was it was only 2 as me and my partner where pretty sure it would be only 2. She did apologise after but I think with a company doing this day in day out would know what they are doing. Secondly the instructor on the 458, a short gentleman was very abrupt at the end of the drive as I hadn't pulled the car near the wall. Considering I'd never drove that car before I was very weary of what I was doing. This slightly ruined what had been up to that point a great day. I do have to thank the instructor mark on the f430 as he was really really good and kept getting me to floor the car. That was the highlight of my day.

Castle Combe - 5 Car Driving Experience

After receiving this experience as a birthday present, I was both excited and a little bit nervous.
Having never driving a car with such power, or even on a proper circuit, I felt like I was entering the unknown.

But upon arrival, I received a warm welcome from the staff that inducted me, and after watching a few other people leaving/entering the pits in the cars I was about to drive, I felt a lot more at ease and more excited.

The day flew by, even after having spacing out each of my drives rather generously.
The staff seemed to keep the driver changeovers moving smoothly and quickly like a well oiled machine.

Once inside each car, the instructors made me feel very comfortable, and explaining what I should be doing before and during the laps.
Their guidance actually was easier to take in than what I had previously imagined it would be like.
This itself made the whole experience so much more fun!

I’d like to thank the instructor of my last drive (Lamborghini) for pushing me even harder and getting more out of me, his instructions were fantastic!

And also, the driver for Hot Lap in the Radical SR3……that was awesome!

Would definitely do it again!!
