Beware, they are scam artists!!!
They trick you into the supplemental insurance by making you think you are declining extra insurance. Then you are stuck paying $15 a day more. I called them 2 days into my rental to question the extra charge on my card. I was told it was because I didn't show proof of insurance. I WAS NEVER ASKED FOR PROOF OF MY INSURANCE. I told them I would send proof immediately and to cancel the supplemental for the remainder of the rental. I was told no because I had the car, that makes sense. I said I would return the car, again I was told that I no early returns. So I was forced to pay for something I did but need because of a shady rental company.

⭐ 1 STAR – ABSOLUTE BAIT-AND-SWITCH SCAM. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

This was one of the most dishonest and infuriating rental car experiences I’ve ever had.

We booked weeks in advance through Expedia with NU Car Rental in Orlando, received confirmation emails, and even got a “your rental is ready” notification the DAY OF arrival. We flew in from out of state assuming—reasonably—that our confirmed reservation would be honored.

It was not.

When we arrived, we were suddenly told our reservation had been “cancelled several days ago” and that an email had supposedly been sent. That is a complete lie. No such email existed. No notice. No warning. Nothing. We had proof of confirmation and same-day readiness emails.

To make matters worse, one employee actually checked me in successfully, proving the reservation was still active. Then, while a second person in our group (with a nearly identical reservation) was checking in, a manager abruptly stepped in and claimed the reservation was cancelled. Miraculously—IMMEDIATELY after that claim—a cancellation email appeared. The timing was beyond suspicious.

Then came the finger-pointing:
• NU says they’re just the “brand”
• They claim the actual operator is Action Car Rental
• Action says NU cancelled it
• Expedia gets blamed
• No one takes responsibility

The most alarming part?
The manager refused to provide his name, was a complete jerk, dismissive, and entirely unapologetic, behaving as if this kind of deception was normal business practice. No concern. No attempt to help. No accountability whatsoever. That alone tells you this is systemic, not accidental.

It is painfully obvious what happened: demand increased, our lower-priced reservations became inconvenient, and they cancelled them at the counter so they could re-rent the same cars at higher last-minute rates. That is predatory, unethical, and disgraceful.

Because of this:
• We were stranded out of state
• Forced into a last-minute scramble
• Paid significantly more elsewhere
• Lost hours of our trip
• Dealt with rude, unprofessional management who clearly didn’t care

This company cannot be trusted. A confirmed reservation with NU means absolutely nothing. If you’re traveling for vacation, business, or with family, do NOT risk it.

I strongly recommend:
• Avoiding NU Car Rental entirely
• Avoiding Action Car Rental
• Booking with a real company that honors reservations
• Filing complaints with Expedia, the Florida Attorney General, and consumer protection agencies

This wasn’t a mistake.
This wasn’t a misunderstanding.
This was a deliberate bait-and-switch.

Scam disguised under multiple names. Action Car Rental / NU Car Rental will rob you. Avoid at all costs.

This company hides behind different names for a reason. My reservation said “NU Car Rental,” but when I got there it turned out to be Action Car Rental. That should’ve been my first red flag. Companies don’t play name-switch games unless they’ve burned enough people that they’re running from their own reputation.

At the counter, their agent told me:
• $300 refundable deposit
• ~$112 for basic insurance
• $79.99 for a child seat
And that the $300 would be refunded after return.

Sounds simple, right? Nope.

I was charged $493.54, and after the rental, the “deposit” magically became “insurance.” Now they claim the $300 deposit never existed, even though their own salesperson said it was refundable. Total bait and switch.

Trying to contact them afterward is useless. They dodge calls, avoid responsibility, and change their story every time. This place is the poster child for scammy rental operations that prey on travelers who just landed and need a car.

If your reservation says “NU Car Rental,” “Action Car Rental,” or anything similar — RUN.
This is not a real rental company. This is a trap. Go with Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, or literally anyone else that isn’t hiding behind three different names to trick people.

The worst they gave me a car with a dent and crack windshield and tire that alway read low. Also they recently took upon themselves to charge me tolls in the amount of 141.77 which we took no toll road nor were we on the road at that time and not even in Florida. That was almost identical to the price of my rental 143.55. I called on several occasions and they hung up on me. Same people answering the phones so they know it you calling. The sent a copy and paste email not from the toll invoice. I had to report them as fraud and cancel my credit card. They are rude and looking to make extra money from you. DO NOT USE THIS CAR RENTAL IT NOT WORTH THE AGGRAVATION THEY SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED FOR SHADY RENTAL PRACTICES AND BE BAND FRON THE RENTAL CAR BUSINESS. Taking advantage of travelers.

Unethical rental service. They would not help me use my own insurance which I already pay, and made me purchase the collision damage waiver, which effectively increased my rental cost by 35%. They stand behind the guise of "that's what you signed for", but did not give the option of what I really wanted. Thanks, but no thanks.

An absolutely horrific experience from this corrupt and crooked business. Let me begin by advising anybody reading this to AVOID this company at all costs. I booked through Nü Car Rentals and my rental was with Action Car Rental at Orlando International Airport.

The shuttle bus takes around 20 mins to reach the pick up point and was timely and easy to find…. That’s the single good part.

I paid just shy of £500 for my rental upfront around 4 months in advance of my trip to Orlando. I called twice before my arrival to be certain that there were no hidden extras. I was advised the only extras were for a child seat or sat nav rental, which I didn’t require.

On arrival at the desk an employee named Jose Cruz asked for my passport, licence and credit card. I handed these over and was first of all told I would need to pay $59.50 for the fuel in the car and to bring it back empty. My rental conditions stated I returned the car with the same amount of fuel in it as at pick up. This was the first discrepancy. It doesn’t cost almost $60 to fill a Kia Rio, but they wouldn’t let me take the car without paying it.

I was asked how I’d like to pay for insurance. I told him that it was included in my rate and Jose then back tracked and agreed.

I was THEN told that because I wasn’t paying for insurance that I would need to purchase a pre paid toll package for my 21 day rental at $13.99 per day. I’ve been driving in Florida for 20 years and this is never mandatory. It even says on Action Car Rentals website that if you don’t pay for a toll package, you’re responsible for an admin fee plus the price of the toll should you trigger a camera. I was happy to accept this, though Jose wouldn’t allow me to take the car without paying almost $300 for the tolls.

I pleaded with him that I did not require this, nor had I ever had it before and he rather abruptly told me that if I didn’t want to pay it, then to go away and apply for my money back when I got back to the UK. It was late at night and I was alone. I was forced to pay this amount or have no vehicle.

Absolutely horrific and upsetting start to a trip I’d saved all year for. It doubled the cost of my rental.

I took this up with the company when I got back to the UK and drove without using any toll roads as I would have done anyway. They insisted they don’t ever enforce toll packages. The employee lied. I was absolutely forced to pay it, because without paying it, Jose wouldn’t let me take my car.

This company are THIEVES and incredibly dishonest. I’m currently taking legal action through my bank in the UK.

Avoid at ALL costs. You’ll be lured in with cheaper rates and then stung at the counter, exactly as I was. Disgusting and dishonest establishment that needs to be avoided.

Rented a car through priceline, thought we were set. The pick up spots that were listed on their site were wrong. So we missed first shuttle. Finally got on second shuttle and once we arrived what a mess! I was going to be charged extra per day because I did not have a credit card only a debit card(reservation was made with said debit card), couldn't change my reservation to my friends name so we were charged $6 a day for add'l driver. The car we reserved shockingly was no longer available and we were given a minivan. All these crazy fees were added and it was an add'l $500 then we had anticipated. Had the van one night, next day go to start it and it won't start, finally after 20 min it starts we are good to go. Next day same thing van won't start, finally starts up.. get to Universal, go to leave again it won't start- after 20 min finally starts. We call the company the next day and wow! rudest customer service I have dealt with. Basically telling us we will have to jump the car and drive it back to the place, losing 1.5 hours of our day because if they send out a tow truck and it's just the battery we will have to pay for the tow...WHAT!?! My husband finally gets on the phone and explains we tried to jump it no luck, he then tells them he banged on the battery and starter and it started to run. The only reason why I give them one star is that they did finally send out a car that we can use after sitting there for an hour on the phone with them(car came 2 hours later). Such a scam and do not recommend at all

ABSOLUTE CROOKS - do not ever rent from them!! They also trade under NUC car hire. We booked them through DISCOVER CARS who don’t seem to vet any of ‘their’ car hire companies. The agent CHRISTOPHER (so he claimed in our case but could not tell his last name 🤔), ripped us off FORCING us to pay an extra $212 for extra liability insurance (so he said) even though we had paid it prior to DISCOVER CARS + we have an extra annual car hire excess insurance that worked with THRIFTY the week before and said WORLDWIDE but he said it did not cover the US !! Instead he claimed
that this was just luggage insurance in case it got stolen? Bottom line he wouldn’t rent us the car until we had paid him the $212 which made the rental more expensive than a quick and easy one in the Terminal (like THRIFTY). He definitely took advantage that we were off-site and it was 9:47pm and I was alone with my 12 year old daughter (so no alternative rental company around).
AND he then tried to force the highway pass fee of $13/ day on us even though we were only going to Daytona beach, staying there 2 weeks and then heading back to Orlando. He said we could not avoid the tolls (absolute untrue ! As we did and easily !) and the booths were not manned, so for every control we passed (which could be 5 from Orlando to Daytona) we would have to pay $25 penalty to him upon return + actual toll fee. Plus he wanted to add an extra CDW for $15/ day. UNBELIEVABLE!!! When I question him as to why, he just kept saying ‘is that all mam’? To get rid of us. He also made us sign this ridiculous $250 penalty note in case of sand & food in the car to which I asked of what he classified as ‘dirty’? How many grains of sand? We then got the most basic car - probably as revenge- which did not even have a door fob, just a key. We reported the issue during the rental period to DISCOVER CARS but no help. We challenged the same agent CHRISTOPHER at drop-off on his unjustified charges and he gave different explanations (so he evidently could not remember the many different lies he tells to get extra money).
I asked for a check-out report which he said was sent as we spoke. I never received it until last week after chasing DISCOVER CARS repeatedly. We had however confirmed with Harold, who checked the car that all was 👍, but when he saw us talking to him he came out and gestured us to go away. So shady, fraudulent, rude and far more expensive. DONT EVER RENT YOUR CAR THERE and support their FRAUD!!! I have reported them further to VISIT ORLANDO who is taking this seriously as it’s a bad first impression of Orlando and Florida, so no anyone reading this with similar experience- write to them too to close down fraudsters like ACTION/ NUC car rental !!!

Very nice van for driving around a lot of people and their luggage.

Got billed for Damage Waiver / Insurance even though I clearly said "no" to it.
Van was indicated at 4/4 / full of gas but only had 3/4 tank. When they went to fill it up the gas cover broke off and could not be fixed.
You have to agree that there will be no sand in the vehicle on drop off; this is Florida, what do they expect???

Do NOT rent from this company!They try to get you to sign up for an expensive plan to "cover" toll roads.We opted out of the plan and were careful to avoid toll roads.  Added "avoid tolls" to our Google Maps and had five adults in the car watching carefully for toll roads.We did NOT ever get on a toll road during our one week stay in the Orlando area.Imagine our surprise a month later when we got a bill for 126.81 with a note listing several supposed toll infractions!No photo image of the license plate, just their word against ours.  We started a credit card dispute and are still working on that.  We (and they) have no PROOF that we didnt go through toll roads.I called E Pass in Florida and unfortunately there is no photo image of the license plate passing into a toll zone.  This is because their cars have a "transponder" built in.They listed the WRONG make and model car, and got the DATES completely wrong of when we were thereThis is outrageous and extremely frustrating!Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT rent from Action Car Rentals (NU car rentals) in Orlando Florida or they will be sure to scam you like they scammed us.

BEWARE! This rental company will come and take your rental middle of the night while under a contract and after you PAID without you knowing until you go to leave for a day of fun at Disney World only to find your rental MISSING!

This is what they did to me after I extended, after they charged my credit card, after I signed a new contract. Went to leave to one of the Disney Theme parks and car was GONE. Yes GONE. I had one of the resort employees get a couple security guards to check all over in front of my tower but the cars were all gone as people had left for that day already so the parking lots were empty. No o w was answering at the rental car company even when pressing their “option 3” as if something were wrong. Let’s suppose you had an emergency with the car and needed their assistance…no one answered. Security guards called Orange County police to get them involved because we all thought someone stole the rental. It wasn’t until I looked on my missed calls on my phone and saw a Tampa Fl phone number on it and called to see who it was and what that call was about that I learned it was an employee of Action Rental Car informed me that he was an employee of Action and stated “the manager tried to contact me and coulda they came and took the car”. Why would a manager or company take a rental after being charged and renewing a extended week?! And because they couldn’t reach me they TOOK THE RENTAL?! AND BEWARE THEY ALSO GO BY THE NAME OF NÜ WHEN BOOKING!!

I INSTANTLY REACHED OUT TO MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY TO REPORT THE CHARGE BECAUSE I HAHE SO MUCH CONFIRMATION AND PROOF! Lyft and Uber was not more than $6 to any of the theme parks of staying beyond the Disney World sign and go with the “wait”. The 10 minutes wait is not really 10 minutes because there are many Lyft and Uber drivers waiting all around that area and you get a driver right away and they are only 3 minutes away. Just a Tip ;) And to the airport with same weight was only $23. So in case anyone is wondering what we did for the second week we were at Disney/Orlando….Oh and you don’t have to pay gas :D

ALSO THIS RENTAL COMPANY IS NOT AT THE AIRPORT, it is off sight and you have to wait for about 20 minutes for a shuttle to bring you and the weight once you get there is REDICULOUS because everyone rushes to get off the shuttle to be the first in line and there is only two employees checking you in for your reservation, and a full shuttle even in slow months (we went beginning of November for 2 weeks).

DEFINITELY SPEND A LITTLE MORE AND GO WITH A KNOWN RENTAL CAR COMPANY.

And you can see the charge on my online statement I was indeed charged after I signed and initialed for the extension and received an email confirmation. I wish I could have given them no stars but one is the lowest I can go. They have 0% customer service and are thieves. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!!

So Action Car's are STILL TAKING MONEY FROM MY CREDIT CARD 3months after our return. No email. No reason why. Just helping themselves to my credit card details they have held, for months after,then keep extracting money from it. Another £124 gone today. THIS IS FRAUD. They will not answer emails,phone calls (I'm from the UK). Well ACTION CAR RENTALS...YOU CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE because I have blocked my card. British people, I beg you NOT TO USE THIS COMPANY. AND PLEASE BE AWARE, they run under the name of NU Car Rentals and Action Car Rentals. These are the biggest scam company out there.

Booked an Orlando car rental through Priceline and NU Car Rental and Action Car Rental, what an absolute RIP-OFF!!!! Priceline(ref 553-065-713-38) quoted me $811.05 (£648.76) for 16 days car rental which I THOUGHT was a good price! That’s where I went wrong.Picked the car up from Action Car Rental McCoy Road, where surprise surprise, the TOTAL cost of the rental went up to $1466.57!!!!!!! Numerous “Add-ons” charged, APO concession fee $63.63(what’s that), licence rec fee $52.64, Fl surcharge $32.80, customer facility charge $56.00, Road side $63.84, loss damage waiver $399.84 Then on top of that I was told that every toll infraction would cost $25 each ( bearing in mind most tolls are “charged by tag” so I was obliged to go for the prepaid tolls @ $11.99 per day ($191.84). Basically my “bargain” car rental cost more than doubled!! On top of that the car was filthy, covered in dents and scratches (which I had to mark on an IPad or I’d be charged for them). I was told that I had been charged a $200 deposit refundable when I returned the car) although this is not shown on the paperwork. When I returned the car, again I was told that the $200 deposit would be returned to my credit card- of course it hasn’t)!! In future I will stick with my usual rental company Holiday Rentals, and vow NEVER a to use Priceline, NU or Action car rentals who are in my opinion RIP-OFF merchants!!!!!! (By association)!!!

DO NOT rent from them, they are crooks & liars, especially their manager, Mike (if that's his real name) because he would not give us his full name. We rented a Premium SUV and they put us in a mini-van because they no longer had the vehicle that we had paid for & reserved months before. Now we are trying to get a refund for this downgrade; and we are being given the run around.

Stay away from this place! The one star reviews here tell all. The website promises one price, and then there are up charges in the fine print. What a horrible scam. I purchased in advance and was promised one price that I paid in full in advance. When I arrived, I was forced to put another $235 deposit down (which was more than half of the original rental fee!!) and was told I'd get it back 14 business days after I returned the car.

I take my trip, return my car, and wait patiently for 15 business days to find that no deposit was returned to my account. I called, and the first person I spoke with repeated the line "That's a deposit and you'll get it back after 14 business days" and when I informed him that it was the 15th day, he changed tact and told me that was an insurance fee, which I was told was waived.

The person on the phone started to get very rude, and so I asked for his name and to speak to a manager, and he actually hung up on me! I called back, and was immediately place on indefinite hold. Blood starting to boil, I called back, was put on hold, called back again, and was told I was being put through to a manager.

I have no idea what sort of "manager" I was put through to, but he was even ruder than the first guy, telling me that I was never told what I was told about the insurance being waived or the 14 business day return of a deposit. By this point I was done, and this "business leader" had the nerve to actually try to correct me on my lack of politeness, and told me that I could take it up with my credit card and dispute it with them! I was so flabbergasted and angry I was physically shaking!

Stay away!!! These people do not know how to treat customers, whatsoever. I wouldn't be surprised if they respond to this review with more rudeness, or trying to make me out like I'm a stupid, which is how they treated me on the phone.

By the way, don't just go on my word alone. Check out the other one star reviews here and the complaints on the Better Business Bureau.
