Excellent Banjolele restoration.
My wife inherited her late Father's Banjolele and it was in a sad state after several years of not being played. We sent it to Alan and he did a fantastic job with a sympathetic restoration of the instrument, replacing the damaged parts but retaining all it's character and charm. Alyson kept us well informed about the work as it progressed and it was returned to us promptly. They even sent us a video of Alan playing it (brilliantly) so we could hear how good it sounded.
From start to finish we got fantastic service and we can't thank them enough.

Soup to nuts a super experience
Soup to nuts a super experience. Was in the market to get a decent Banjolele with ‘that sound’ and tuning stability. They were good enough to send me footage of some options and left me the choice of what to do. No pressure. Decision made and the instrument arrived packed like it was being freighted to the moon. Very communicative. They are very much genuine and good people. Thanks

Thank you so much for such a fantastic review!
We’re delighted that we were able to help you find the right banjolele with the sound and tuning stability you were looking for. Sending videos of different instruments is something we’re always happy to do, as we’d much rather give customers the information they need to make their own choice than put any pressure on them to buy.
It’s wonderful to hear that you’re happy with both the instrument and your experience with us — and we have to admit, “packed like it was being freighted to the moon” did make us laugh! We do take packing vintage instruments very seriously, so we’ll happily take that as a compliment. 😊
Thank you again for choosing Alan Yates Music and, particularly, for your kind words about us personally. They really do mean a great deal.
We hope you have many happy hours playing your new banjolele and enjoying “that sound”!
Warmest wishes,
Alyson & Alan

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a fantastic review.
We’re delighted to hear that both of your banjo ukuleles arrived safely, that you’re pleased with their condition and, most importantly, that they sound great!
Good communication and honest, knowledgeable advice are a huge part of how we work at Alan Yates Music. Alan is always happy to share his knowledge and talk banjo ukuleles — although, as you discovered, once you get him started it can sometimes turn into quite a lengthy conversation! 😊
We also really appreciate your comments about our pricing. We believe vintage instruments should be honestly described and fairly priced, so it means a great deal when a customer recognises that.
Thank you again for choosing Alan Yates Music, and we hope you get many years of enjoyment from both of your new banjo ukuleles.

A Superb live Guitar and Vocal Duo
I arranged Alan and Alyson to provide live music 60's onwards for a birthday garden party. To say they were exceptional is an understatement. Each of my guests mentioned how much they enjoyed the music/song selection, how they were recalling memories from the original tracks. Alan's guitar playing is second to none and Alysons vocals and link's are so complimentary. If I wanted entertainment in a similar vein again without hesitation I would be contacting Alan Yates Music. Absolutely superb duo - thank you guys for, well, making my party. Jude.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Jude.
It was an absolute pleasure to be part of your birthday celebrations, and we're delighted to hear that you and your guests enjoyed the music. Creating a great atmosphere with songs that bring back happy memories is exactly what we aim to do, so it's lovely to know the song selection and performance were so well received.
Your kind words about Alan's guitar playing, Alyson's vocals and the way we work together mean a great deal to us. We couldn't have asked for a warmer audience, and seeing everyone singing along, dancing, reminiscing and enjoying themselves made it a very special day for us too.
Thank you for trusting Alan Yates Music with such an important celebration. We had a fantastic time and are so pleased we could help make your party one to remember.

Outstanding service.
Just received my ukulele back from AYM and cannot comment highly enough on my experience. Alyson and Alan were wonderful to deal with from my initial quote right up until the completion of my instrument restoration. Alan’s craftsmanship is second to none and spares no effort in making sure everything is 100% perfect. What was once one of my back bench ukes is now the jewel in the crown of my collection and I will certainly be sending some of my others to AYM in the future!

Vintage banjolele
I can't recommend Alan and Alyson too highly. They're very knowledgeable (they are accomplished performers) and take a lot of care to help you choose the right instrument. I had a query about the banjolele I was considering, and I was very quickly sent a video of Alan playing it - very helpful. When it arrived, it was exceptionally well packaged and, for its age, in lovely condition. The price was less than I've seen on an online auction site for inferior instruments. Alan and Alyson are great to deal with and they really know their stuff.

Looking to restore a banjo ukulele…
Looking to restore a banjo ukulele given to me as a child, I was drawn to their excellent website. Alan transformed a long-neglected instrument into a beautiful, playable one to be enjoyed and explored by my grandchildren. Alan gave his honest appraisal of how repairs could be done, a clear estimate of the costs involved, and I am absolutely delighted with the result. I can highly recommend Alyson and Alan’s genuinely knowledgeable, warm and personalised service.

Thank you so much for your kind review — it really means a great deal to both of us.
It was a real pleasure for Alan to restore your banjo ukulele. Instruments that have been part of someone’s life for many years often just need the right care and attention to bring them back into good, playable condition, and Alan always aims to give an honest assessment of what work is worthwhile before any repairs begin.
We’re especially pleased to hear that the instrument will now be enjoyed again by your grandchildren. Seeing a family banjo ukulele brought back into use and passed down to the next generation is one of the most rewarding parts of the work we do.
Thank you again for trusting Alan Yates Music with your banjo ukulele restoration, and for taking the time to share your experience.

We’re delighted to hear how pleased you are with the repair work on your Kiwaya KT-7. Alan takes great care to ensure any work carried out is sympathetic to the instrument and enhances it rather than detracts from its character, so your words will mean a lot to him.

Alan & Alyson are a small business in the North West, they are so friendly and helpful and incredibly knowledgeable. I had a Banjolele that was in a poor condition. Alan gave it the care and attention it needed. It was a difficult job getting the original colour to match, but what a great job he did and at a fair price.
I highly recommend them.

Banjo restoration.
A massive thank you to Alan and Alison .
The work Alan has done on my banjo is fantastic, it looks amazing , as Alan says it looks like the last time it was played by my father in law back in the 1920’s , just a very sympathetic restoration.
To find out a little of the history of it was also very interesting .
I can’t recommend Alan and Alison highly enough .
Again thank you so much .

Heirloom banjo repaired brilliantly
Alan repaired the neck of a banjo which had been snapped completely through. The repair is all but invisible, and although the instrument is no longer playable, as a family heirloom it can now continue to be on display. We were surprised at how little the repair cost and are grateful to Alan for taking it on and doing such a neat job. He was very personable to deal with. Thank you!

Marvellous entertainers on top Formby
Outstanding entertainers, highly recommended. Alan and Alyson put on a terrific performance of mostly George Formby songs for my father-in-law's 90th birthday in the garden of his daughter's house. He was up dancing on his zimmer frame and absolutely loved it. It made his day. Alan and Alyson were great performers and extremely thoughtful, taking care to chat to George and do requests. They stayed much longer than they needed to despite their busy schedule and were absolutely brilliant. We can't thank them enough.

Restorer extraordinaire
I took a couple of my highly prized Ukulele-Banjos to Alan Yates to have some restoration work carried out on them.
One was in need of a new vellum as the old one had split.
The other however, required the bezel to be straightened and re-shaped back to it's original position, the frets needed to be levelled and polished, new strings were fitted and it's been set up for the George Formby style of playing.
The difference between how it sounded before the work and after are night and day. The volume it throws out is noticeably louder and the tone is richer.
I will have no hesitation in using Alan's services for my other uke's as and when the need arises and of course in recommending him to others.
