American Medical Response (AMR)

American Medical Response (AMR)
Was taken to a hospital of their choice not the one I requested. Upon speaking to a supervisor you CAN sign a waiver and they are obligated to take you to the hospital you request even if it will be a longer wait time. Sign the waiver.

My son’s roommate called because…

When my son’s roommate called because something was seriously wrong with my son and he was asking for me, I took one look at him and immediately called 911.

One of the EMTs was kind and professional. Unfortunately, the other—an older EMT—was not. He angrily berated my son, questioning why he should even be transported to the hospital if he was “just going to go home and drink again.”

I was absolutely appalled by this behavior. Regardless of a person/ patient’s condition, history, or suspected substance use, it is not an EMT’s role to criticize, shame, or lecture a patient in medical distress. That responsibility belongs to the treating physicians—not to a first responder using hostility during an emergency call.

I worked as an emergency room nurse for over 22 years. I understand stress, burnout, and difficult patients. Even so, I would never have spoken to a patient the way this EMT did. His conduct was unprofessional, inappropriate, and deeply concerning.

This experience needs to be reviewed seriously. No patient—especially one in a medical crisis—should be treated this way.

My son is still in hospital two weeks later, including a time in ICU his condition was so life threatening.

Predatory pricing

Outrageous pricing. 40% higher base rate than state average, bundle and balance billing practices and elevate status to bill higher. Charged $3K for a 16 mile ride for low oxygen clasified that as ALS (advanced life support)

Competent and sympathetic medics…

Competent and sympathetic medics arrived at my home. They showed compassion and knowledge to my issue and made me feel well cared for on the way to the hospital. The billing process was without any issues. 60 days later I received my bill after what insurance paid and thought it was fair and served my needs well.

Never use AMR for your ambulance service.

I'm writing this review about AMR. American Medical Response and their ambulance service. On March the 2nd 2025 I became ill and needed to be taken to the hospital that is literally 2 blocks from my house. At no time was my life in danger of being lost. Today I received a bill for over $1,700 for that 2 block ride. I've emailed them today requesting a detailed itemized bill showing each service performed on me and the exact charge of that service. This is absolutely ridiculous. This is the reason the American public hates the health care industry with a passion. At no point did this company render $1,700 worth of life saving service to me in my 2 block ride. If you need medical attention do not use this company because you will be sorry. I would rather walk to the hospital or hitch hike a ride than pay two thousand dollars for a two block ride. Especially when my life was never in danger of being lost.

Totally FAILED to Observe my Basic Rights as a Consumer

I have looked on line. There are literally hundreds of complaints about a company called AMR. This stands for American Medical Response - but this descriptor was not included on the bill I received.

I was recently hoslitalized. Over a month later, out of the blue, I received a bill for over 1800 dollars from a company called simply "AMR".

There was absolutely no specific information on this bill to tell me WHY I was receiving the bill NOTHING referencing what services I received. NOTHING to tell me anything about my alleged bill - except that it was overdue. (I had not received any previous bill from this company for these charges - just an OVERDUE bill.

I am a Senior Citizen on Social Security. My other bills had been covered by Medicare and by my Medicare suppliment insurance. My monthly Social Security income is well below the 1800 of the Bill

This company is required by law to deal with the public in " upmost good faith". They completely failed to do that. They are required ,by those same consumer protection laws, to explain the charges for ANY bill they send out. They are required to explain they are an agent for anyone who provided the original service. NO initial bill was presented. They should have ASKED for my medicare number and my medicare suppliment number and billed them directly - they FAILED to do this.

What they DID manage to do is traumatize a 71 year old Senior. What they DID do is commit ELDER Abuse.

Here is how you respond if you receive similar treatment from this Company. Each State has an Office that handles Consumer Complaints. File a formal complaint that your basic consumer rights were ignored. If you are over 65 consider filing a Elder abuse complaint with the Office in your State who handles Elder Abuse complaints.

This may seem like a "small thing", but it has not happened to just you. Do a quick on line scan there are literally hundreds, at least hundreds, of people who were also mistreated by this company.

AMR wont give refunds after saying they will

I was lied to by Sharp about covering my AMR ambulance transfer. Sharp prompted Scripps ER to transfer me to their hospital. They promised me since they were the ones requesting the transfer they would cover it and I would not be charged. I was then charged by the ambulance company (AMR). When I later emailed Sharp about covering the expense they then told me they would not be paying for it.

I also paid this expense through AMR and later requested a refund. AMR told me they would send me a refund and never did. Ive spoken with several supervisors at AMR about this and have yet to get a resolution. They just give me the run around and have now given me another bill. So I paid $150, was told I'd get a refund and now have been billed again $150.

Drive yourself to the hospital if you can

Drive yourself to the hospital!

The guys who picked me up would not come inside because I had a golden retriever. Okay I get it. Dogs can be scary.

I could not walk - my husband had to get me outside into my driveway for me to lie down on the gurney. They did not take my bp or anything - just asked me about my insurance. I had such low blood pressure and blood count that I was passing out. AT the hospital they did not help me from the gurney to the chair. I held onto the wall to get into the chair. My bp was 70/50 so no wonder I could not walk.

I was charged almost $1700 for a three-mile drive.Okay, a business has to run. I paid my deductible promptly. Now they have sent me to a collector, even though I paid what BCBS told me to pay on my explanation of benefits. Shame on the City of Arlington Texas for partnering with them. If you google them, their reputation is awful. This is the pattern of their behavior.

Are the EMTs really EMTs? There was not one shred of evidence they knew what they were doing.

Worthless.

I don't think there been one employee here that's even qualified to touch a human body. Just sue them it works and is very easy. They do not support the disable. And can be sued for it. The hospital always removes there fuc*ed up IV's. And they never transfer your problem correctly to hospital. They just sit and text to friends on cell phone to hell with helping you.
