Garage Door Fraud
These guys have a dozen names. They are NOT local. The company is based in Henderson NV (Vegas). They have bought up a bunch of phone numbers from reputable garage door installers nationwide, and when you call a name you picked because you have heard good things, they DO NOT TELL you that you are talking to someone else. The son of the guy who I called (who retired and sold his phone number to these guys) has gotten a lot of feedback from old customers who thought they were dealing with his father. These guys are slimeballs. They had agreed to sell me a chain replacement for my opener. They show up for a "free inspection", and without the one thing I arranged to buy from them. The "inspection" results in a recommendation that the springs are shot and need to be replaced. He quotes the "high cycle" springs and puts in standard springs. Charging $700 for $350 springs. He then "notices" that the door roll shaft has "bad" bearings on both sides, showing me the grease leaking out of the fittings. He can do that for only another $275. I'm looking at $25 bucks worth of endplates with bearings. That is when I finally realized we were done. If I had listened to him, my cost would have been over $1,000; for work that was not needed, and I still had no opener chain. After talking with 3 other vendors, and having 2 of them stop by to take a look; which they were very happy to do as a courtesy; I find out that there was nothing wrong with my springs, and nothing wrong with my bearings. I am not one to suffer quietly. I cancelled the payment, called and wrote to the company, and threatened them with a fraud lawsuit. From the beginning, they were charmers. Very polite, very helpful, and lying through their teeth. The woman who responded was also very nice, very polite, and must have realized I was serious. Without a bit of trying to settle with me, she refunded the $300 I demanded. I'm guessing that she does this a lot. There are many good operations here in the NW suburbs; Woodfield Garage Doors (talk to Mike or Will), they are also North Shore in Wilmette and West Suburban in Oak Park.
