Car was fine, service not fine

Car was fine. Returning was very rushed and the man practically got in the car and drove off while we were taking our things out of the car. This meant we left a watch in the car and have been trying for coming up to a month to get in touch. Absolutely zero response other than the automated - we’ll try and get back to you in 10 days tosh.

Car Hire PERFECTION!

My experience of Avis Newcastle was ... fantastic! Quick, with no lengthy, dramatic control of the car's collect and return. Plus, they gave me a brand new Toyota Corolla Hybrid!
Professional, courteous and customer-focussed.
A superb all-round hire-car experience from start to finish!
(There is even a handy bus stop - into Newcastle - outside ... with a coffee shop next to it [convenient seating to watch for the bus too]).

Straight lying thieves

I was straight up stolen from when I picked up car double checked fees as I'm in the trade and aware of the appalling behaviour of these people I will put the womans name in future review so she said I can be charged 200 for cleaning $4a litre petrol.no reason they took 600 out of my account after 3 days she's finally came clean and said it was for extra ks.i asked specifically about kilometres and was told unlimited as had my insurance company Horsham avis don't use avis there's better cheaper medium sized car rentals that are not thieves

Be Warned.. costs are not transparent

Be Warned... very deceptive pricing

Prices on booking suddenly change and go up by... wait for it... and additional $150++ when trying to check out. This is because of all their hidden fees, services fees etc. So 3 days at $315 ended up being $480.
Then, they want you to pay $100 for 3 days of basic cover! $580 for 3 days!
Why not, just add the prices w I th the fees so you do not waste our time.
I am an Avis Preferred customer but no more.
I went only and found the exact same car for $330 that includes fees and basic insurance

Terrible company

Terrible company. I should have stuck with Budget (parent company). Avis hid excess charges at the time of rental and then charged nearly double 2 days after the car was returned for “excess kilometres”. I asked repeatedly for the costs and kept being told the “rental fee is $380”. The rental agreement was only a print out, which was so faded it wasn’t readable in places. I wasn’t given a digital copy. If I’d had any idea there were kilometre costs I would have gone elsewhere for sure!

I WAS DOUBLE CHARGED AT THE BUDGET CAR RENTAL AT THE BELIZE AIRPORT AND THEY WILL NOT SEND BACK MY MONEY. IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR AND IM STILL FIGHTING WITH THEM TO GET MY MONEY BACK. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM, THEY ARE HORRIBLE AND JUST WANT TO SCAM YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY. International Airport Rd, Ladyville

Avis Albany Australia

Avis Albany Australia, not part of Avis chain. Using the name but not respecting frequent priority customers.

We flew into Albany Wa airport in private plane at 1.52. Our car reservation was at 1.30. We have since learned the desk closes at 1.30, but a sign was left that said give us a call we are only a minute away. When we called after 2 pm as our phones were dead and had to charge, they didn’t want to give us the car and we had to wait until they were back at 5pm. For $100 more we got a very rude manager who was obviously irritated we didn’t arrive exactly at 1.30 to collect the car. She gave us a car which was a good car and no complaints there.

Apparently on Sundays they only do scheduled flights so if you fly in on your own little 2 seater, no car for you!

None of this is clear when booking online. It should be big and bold arrive exactly on time or pay $100 for out of office hours!

Decent customer service, as we’ve had in other parts of Australia, would call you to ask if you are still arriving. Or even email to make sure you arrive on-time and notify if any delays as they aren’t open on Sunday. We had noted we were on a private flight and working at an airport I would think a logical person would assume that any bad weather would make trip longer. But this type of customer service and logic is obviously not understood in Albany with the misleading sign and a very rude manager.

I have the right mind to return my leased Avis car and rent from an competitor instead, but Avis should not be penalised from one very poorly managed operation that doesn’t need to provide good service to survive. They either rent or they don’t depending on flights. It’s a monopoly and for this reason there will never be a notion of customer service just angry old people trying to ruin your vacation and make another $100. $100 did not matter at all happy to pay it if it was stated anywhere on the reservation about the time open hours etc.

Fortunatel they did not succeed in tampering the holiday. I just feel sorry for the next person that wants to try and rent a car to discover the area and can’t because they are only 1 minute away if you pay $100.

Terrible customer service

I booked a car for my holiday in March 2024. When I collected my key, the receptionist told me that part of my booking had to be refunded.
It's now October and my email exchanges are still pending. When it's time to ask for money, the replies are very quick, but if it's the other way round, they play dead.
The receptionists were professional but the customer service is hopeless. As I'm Belgian, I can't go there, so I have to wait months for a reply by email to get my money back. A word of advice: if they promise you a refund, make sure it's done on the spot.

The worst company to ever deal with STAY AWAY !!
Worst customer service -1 ⭐️
More like no customer service .
But if there on phone service is crap
And email is crap head office manager must be crap
So the bad or no Service filters down the line to every day customer service in the rentals .
Now I understand oh well lesson learned

Double booked, no refund

Booked car rental in my name, paid in advance. When finished, T & Cs said booking must be in same name on license and credit card. I had used my shortened first name by mistake. So I immediately made another booking with my full first name. I then tried to cancel the first booking.
Website would not allow, Rang Avis, they said no problem - will fix it.
Arrived at pickup to collect, you have 2 bookings for same car.
I explained to counter staff and she agreed there would be no problem, She ''cancelled"
2 months later, still no refund

Rented car in NSW

Rented car in NSW, Australia..initially charged amount as arranged, then additional 300 dollars appeared on visa bill...am now back in Canada, attempted to contact twice and no response...very bad customer service...very duplicitous company

BE AWARE

BE AWARE! I am only dealing in proven facts, for example: If you rent a vehicle from Avis/Hertz USA for 7 days and you bring your vehicle back to the correct return station after 5 days you will be charged for 7 days! They will LIE (by email) for the original reason of the charge then when you catch them out on their LIE they LIE again (by email) that a 7 day charge is the same as a 5 day charge even though the charge is by a daily rate! Then they laugh at you knowing it is very difficult to challenge any further because Avis Australia walk away from any liability and put it all on USA. What a joke I can only hope that whoever reads this thinks twice before using Avis/Hertz and supports an alternative. The Avis/Hertz and Budget have over 90% of the rental industry business? Fight with your feet!

Poor service, deceptive information and sneaky fees

I generally use another company because I get good corporate rates, but when I needed to travel to Melbourne at short notice due to a family emergency (on a long weekend at the start of school holidays) I just booked what I could get. Big mistake!
I booked a car from Melbourne Airport, with a booking time that was the same as my flight arrival time. Despite a delayed flight meaning we didn't get there until more than an hour after the booking time, the car wasn't ready. The two children's car seats hadn't been installed and it was still off-site. We were told to wait outside and the car would be delivered directly to us. In the end, we spent 45 minutes juggling two young children in the rain before the car finally turned up (and only then after I got much more forceful with staff). In fact, the car was ready in less than half an hour, but the staff member who brought it over dropped it about 100m from where we were told to wait then didn't tell other staff it was there. They company blamed a new contractor...
At pickup, we asked staff whether we should use our own E-tag for toll roads, but they assured us that we didn't need to as the car would be linked to our credit card and we only paid the price of the toll, with no extra fees. This was a lie. After we returned the car we were invoiced by Linkt, which not only charged us the tolls, but a $3.30 fee for every day we used a toll road. This meant that on many days we paid more in fees than the actual tolls. Looking at the fine-print in the Avis contract reveals this fee, which wasn't disclosed to us. What is also revealed is that Avis gets a $0.99c kickback from Linkt from each of these fees. So they clearly lie to you to get you not to use your own E-tag as it gets them money.
Unless I'm absolutely desperate, with no other car available from any other company, I will never use Avis again. The poor customer service was bad enough, but the deceptive conduct and secret fees are just mind-blowing. I only wish I'd checked reviews before making my own booking as none of the above is unusual.

What can I say… One of the most famous…

What can I say… One of the most famous hire car companies in the world. Probably the second most well known after Hertz. I can only give my feedback. I rented a car in Sydney. The office staff were nice enough. When the car was shown to me, it was filthy. Covered in bird poo and the windscreen cavity was chockers full of leaves, twigs etc. The woman from the office wiped off the bird poo off the front door. When I drove off in the car, however I started to notice just how disgusting it was inside too. Dirt, stains and filth. On the automatic gearstick base there was something akin to snot. Really? How? Why?

The other irony, of course was that they gave me a bulky Prado 4-wheel-drive car (that I didn’t ask for) but they said Avis T&Cs are such that you “can’t take it off road”. Wt?

The latter was not my intention anyway, but it’s such a famous brand, it’s pretty bad. Never again.

In a bad situation - Avis was brilliant

Several years ago - I had an accident in a hire car from Avis (hit an animal). I was concerned for the vehicle (as the radiator was leaking, and didn't want to drive it for fear of overheating then damaging the motor.

Contacted the Avis number, and a chap named 'Josh' assisted me. Avis wasn't worried about the car, their only concern was how I was, and how I'd get home. They offered to send a taxi to pick me up and drop me at my destination for no charge, and were insistent on making sure I got home safe. This made the whole experience totally different to what I was expecting.

10/10 for their service during a difficult time. Most people won't get into an accident, fortunately, but I can attest that they put the customer first if it happens.

I've never used a different hire car company as a result.
