I tried to order from them twice, second time they gave wrong produce and were VERY rude on the phone telling me i was wrong for an hour before admitting i was correct. The person I spoke to next laughed at our situation of late delivery, wrong produce delivered etc and when i asked them not to laugh as it was quite a stressful situation they hung up the phone. Making a complaint has no acknowledgement or resolution they say they just do internal investigations and you'll never hear about it or receive an apology etc. To be honest, the rep had the lQ of a shoelace, very unprofessional and a waste of time. Used to be good but i'm onto a local butcher, fish monger, veg guy etc and all the produce is much better, they never forget anything and do us great deals. Brakes is a dying brand in the hospitality industry.
Not sure if it's a driver issue but we rarely get a delivery inside the 7am-3pm window and the customer service repeatedly tell lies like "You're next" or "I can see the truck is close", when the reality is we're not next nor is the truck close. Exasperating for us trying to run a school restaurant with such a consistently tardy service. I wish they were honest, like just say you can't deliver or have driver issues today, so we aren't waiting in vain.
Customer service try their best but hands are tied so much by the Depo which are appalling

Brakes have been great! I get great pricing, numerous deliveries a week and even have a personal account manager. My account manager Bethany Ford is absolutely amazing, she always helps me find the right products for my store and is very quick to reply!
I can't recommend Brakes enough! Their staff is incredibly friendly, from the delivery drivers to the customer service team. I always feel valued as a customer, with regular check-in calls to ensure everything is going smoothly. Any issues I've encountered, whether on the website or otherwise, have been resolved promptly and professionally. Delivery has always been reliable, and it's fantastic to be able to order up until 5pm the day before. The recent website changes have made the experience even better. The one time in over a year of weekly orders we had a slightly delayed delivery due to traffic, Brakes Team kept us well informed throughout. Thank you, Brake Bros, for your exceptional service!

I have been with brakes now for nearly 2 years and I have to say that Beth Ford is an Absolute gem! Even tho she opened both my accounts she still goes out of her way to make shore we are looked after. We have been unfortunately been with out an account manager on and off but Beth still looks after us when I phone her asking form more and more! Thanks Beth Ford 🙂
Would give 0 starts if I could! Produce is always awful quality, food comes broken (tin of beans arrived damaged and exploded in our food cupboard.) 10 eggs broken. Milk leaking.
The potatoes are AWFUL!! Black inside, bruised, dirty, routes coming out. Takes us twice as long to prepare them as they’re so bad!!

This company claims to be environmentally friendly but they deliver food in large polluting lorries with loud generators with no consideration of the environment or any residents living near delivery sites. The drivers refuse to turn off engines claiming the food will spoil. It's about time Brakes put their money where they mouth is and bought some smaller electric vans.
Thank you to the lorry driver who ignored the 7.5t weight limit in Symonds Road in Bury St Edmunds this morning. There's plenty of signage, there's no excuse.
Our delivery driver Ross is an absolute star. Always cheerful, polite, and helpful. Couldn't ask for better customer service.

Been using brakes since opening our cocktail bar in December, the your way service is brilliant and I can’t fault our driver will! He is always making sure our deliveries come on time and even on his days of he ensures everything gets delivered!!
Worse than useless. Of the past 8 deliveries, 7 have had issues with missing stock, not because it's out of stock, it's just not picked, or they send the wrong items. Rep says mistakes will happen and that's understandable occasionally, but they happen on almost every delivery. I've consistently tried to get in contact with management, but the office refuse to give out contact details, so that's impossible. It seems to me they're hiding from justifiably upset customers.
I've given up now and sourced all Brakes products from alternative suppliers. Looking at these reviews it seems I'm far from the only one.
I wish you the best of luck if you decide to use Brakes as a supplier.

I have used Brakes for the past 8 years supplying 2 of my businesses with food and drink, over the last 18 months the level of service has deteriorated significantly to a point that I have stopped using them for one of the businesses and moved all my orders to another large wholesaler.
I have used Brakes mainly for the customer service they provided, certainly not because of cost as they are one of the more expensive suppliers, even with discounts.
With the other business I am slowing moving my orders to another supplier as they seem to care about having your business where Brakes have lost that touch.
All started when they moved my account manager, who I had since day one and built a good relationship with, since then I have not seen an account manager not once and certainly for the last 6 months not even had a call to see if there were any problems.
Lastly credit control, well what can I say about them, in the last 6 months they are the biggest pain in my backside, quick enough to chase an account if a few days late but not quick enough when you have been chasing credits for the same period for 2 weeks due to stock not delivered.
When you do pay them, they seem to have a habit of allocating the payment to the wrong month and invoices despite a remittance with all invoice numbers and amounts documented on it been sent. When you speak to them its never their fault, typical credit controllers you might say, yes I agree but at least before chasing make sure you have done your job correctly and not caused the delay in the first place.
Update 29/01/2024: Brakes customer service reached out to me due to my review and asked for further details, I gave them my account number and details of poor level of service, then got ignored by them. as I said there is better and cheaper suppluirs out there that actually want your business.

Worse food suplier you can work with. Most of the product is very short dated. Poor quality. Keep get over charged. Half of the return/credited amount missing. Billed out of blue. 2 years after closing account got county court claim don't know why... Appealed against it. Mislead with wrong court details by their dodgie Solicitors. Communication by email blocked by them. Letters never answered. Stay far far away from this company. They are thiefs, cowboys, robbers.

Constant problems with quality,storage,online saying goods are available you order them only to find there not available or have been discontinued!customers service is robotic I know exactly what they are going to say they never get back to you they just lie,drivers are all great but when it's been stored inside the lorries we get icing sugar with chicken on top of it totally wrong, we've had mouldy bread ,split tubs of vitalite mouldy fruit,cheese mouldy,the list goes on. ,,this is nit my business I'm just the chef but I would never use this company there's always something missing items we have paid for which are not on the lorry I complain they say sorry that's it same thing happens the best week.
I have dealt with Brakes for 6 months and it has been a pleasure. The deliveries have been prompt and the customer service always helpful. My contact (Tracey) deserves special mention as she has been so helpful in setting up and maintaining the account.The quality & variety of the products is excellent.
After some accout opening issues it was handed over to Tracey who has been amazing. I was up and running in 24 hours the delivery was easy and she rang to check up to make sure all was well..so far so good and a really good selection of products
