Just been to see the ‘Life in the Roman Army’ exhibition. Some very interesting exhibits, but why, oh why, did you put all of the explanatory plaques below hip level? It is impossible to read them if... Ver mais

A great place to visit
A great place to visit. Really enjoyed seeing what the museum had to offer.
I like it
There is a huge collection of very interesting articles. You can learn lots of history there.
A day at the museum
After a visit to Greece we wanted to see for ourselves what the museum held related to the Parthenon and Mycenaeans.
I booked tickets online which was easy. I was a little put off by the number of people streaming in on arrival but we were quickly admitted.
The galleries were busy and as a wearer of varifocals it was sometimes difficult to get near enough to printed information to focus and read. However we were able to see clearly how the artifacts had been in their Athens setting and to admire details at close quarters.
I had come home from Greece with the opinion that the Elgin marbles should be returned. However on seeing the amount and scale of items I am reviewing my opinion. The items are well displayed and cared for. It seems that Lord Elgin rescued them from the destruction of bomb blast and exposure to the elements. Whilst I do think they belong in Athens I can see it would need a massive effort and expense to do that and they are safely kept for posterity where they are.
Generally it was a very busy day in the gallery but we were able to see what we wanted and get lunch without too long a wait. My main complaint would be the queue for the ladies toilet next to the gift shop. There were other toilets and maybe a clear notice advising ladies of alternative facilities before you descend the stairs to find the melee at the bottom would be helpful.
What is your purpose in displaying the…
What is your purpose in displaying the ancient artifacts of other countries in museums for the people of those countries? Is this a show of power? If it is a show of power, I must tell you that by doing so you are only showing your weakness and showing that there is nothing to show in your own history, or in other words, you have no history to show at all.
Went once won't go back
Went once, saw the stolen artefacts, won't go back since they have cowed to a nefarious lobby group and are complicit in erasing history, I hope they will be at least making changes across the whole museum in a consistent way but I'm sure they won't, return the stolen artefacts and shut it down
Disgusted that the museum is now…
Disgusted that the museum is now clearly dishonest and untrustworthy. They seek to erase and alter history to please Zionist bullies. DO NOT RECOMMEND

Disgustingly run by amateurs who bow down to external pressure. No serious historian would try to change history. Utterly disgraceful!
Shambles of a museum
Shambles of a museum, fake is the perfect word with stolen artefacts, made up history and lies. Free Palestine! Avoid.
Stolen artefacts from many around the…
Stolen artefacts from many around the world but the worst is the fact that the British Museum is now removing PALESTINE from all historical artefacts and maps, which is them taking part in the cultural genocide of the Palestinian people and I will never visit the Museum again. UNLESS you reinstate the PALESTINE
Cultural Genocide of Palestine
Stolen artefacts from many countries but the worst is the fact that the British Museum is now removing Palestine from all historical artefacts and maps, which is them taking part in the cultural genocide of the Palestinian people and I will never visit the Museum again.
Erasing History - should change it's name to Colonial Museum
Shocking and disgraceful. The British Museum has chosen to erase the word “Palestine” from its displays after pressure from a lobbying group, prioritising politics over historical integrity. Museums are supposed to educate, not rewrite terminology to appease external interests. This decision feels like censorship dressed up as “accuracy” and seriously undermines public trust. A world-class institution should stand for independent scholarship — not cave to political pressure. Disgusting. Corrupt.
The first reference to Palestine is on the Egyptian monument of Medinet Habu in 1186BCE. The first reference to Britain is the 4th century BC when it appears in the work of the Greek traveler Pytheas of Massalia.
Disgusting
British Museum can’t even get historical facts correct
Went to the British Museum yesterday and although it is always crowded, I did expect historical accuracy as a minimum standard. I was sorely disappointed- apparently the region that has been called ‘Palestine’ for over two thousand years has now been named anything you like - as long as it’s not that word that upsets UK Lawyers for Israel lobbyists group - a bunch of nutters run by Satanyahu. They have insisted that the pathetic British museum remove Palestine! Can’t trust this place to do anything correctly.
You can put in a little more effort.

I was impressed with the Mummy of Cleopatra in the egyptian section, until I learned that it was in fact *not* Cleopatra but some random other woman also named Cleopatra with no obvious disclaimer noting this fact. It was a ruse! I feel tricked! Bamboozled even! It would be like me declaring that I own the favorite childhood toy of George Washington but the childhood toy is actually the stuffed Dinosaur my dog George Washington always plays with.

Thank you so much for the staff member and people on the lift who helped when my little one hand got stuck on the lift door. Can not Thank you enough 🙏🙏🙏
Lack of culture.
The reviews are mostly from the White people. So, as a person from India, I would like to realistically point out the fact that you need not to even visit all the items in the British Museum in order to conclude and understand that the British are a thief. Only after a couple of items that you see would you realize that all of them are stolen by the British from various cultures and countries. All the items in the museum, simply put, do not belong to the British; they are stolen. But of course, I expect nothing less from the former colonizers of the world. In my view, colonizers often lack courtesy, realism, and culture of course, because why would a country showcase some other country's culture in their national museum unless of course they lack one.
Not a British institution to respect.
Huge queues and expensive tickets. I'm also ashamed that the British Museum recently hosted a corporate event for a foreign country that shares none of the values of the British people. Any institution that allows the perpetrators of war crimes to have a celebratory party celebrating their crimes should be removed from everyone's attendance list. Let's hope the International Court of Justice will bring all those perpetrators and collaborators to justice soon.
Coat check staff were a delight
Had a stunning chat with Matthew at coat check. He was knowledgeable about the museum, interested in hearing our thoughts of the museum and generally a top guy. 10/10 for Matthew.
In other news, the coat check is overpriced.
