Concerns about vehicle condition and claimed service history
I purchased a 2018 Nissan Navara from Car & Co, Dural, NSW, on 25 July 2026.
The vehicle was advertised and represented as having “full service history”, “no mechanical issues” and a pre-sale safety/mechanical assessment. The Form 5 Car & Co Dural supplied at sale also indicated that no dealer guarantee applied. Based on the vehicle’s age and approximately 129,000 km at purchase, I have asked NSW Fair Trading to assess whether that was correct.
Within 24 hours of delivery, I identified a number of concerns and notified Car & Co Dural in writing on 26 July 2026. I then obtained an independent inspection from a diesel and 4x4 specialist. The assessment identified safety, roadworthiness and reliability issues requiring attention.
I was also concerned about the service history supplied with the vehicle. The logbook entries did not align with Service NSW odometer history and other records available to me. I contacted the business identified in the logbook: they advised that it held no service records for the vehicle. In my view, this did not substantiate the “full service history” representation.
I provided Car & Co Dural with supporting information and attempted to resolve the matter directly. Car & Co Dural offered to take the vehicle back and provide a refund. I chose to retain the vehicle and sought a reasonable contribution towards the documented costs of rectifying the safety, roadworthiness and reliability issues.
As we did not reach agreement, I lodged a complaint with NSW Fair Trading. I have now had the necessary repairs carried out at my own cost and am in the process of lodging a consumer claim through NCAT.
This review reflects my personal experience and the documentation available to me. Prospective buyers should independently verify Car & Co Dural used vehicle’s service history and condition, arrange an independent pre-purchase inspection, and read all dealer paperwork carefully before purchase.
