Keeping in touch
I'm a senior Canadian now living in Australia but I still like to keep up to date with what is going on with seniors in Canada. I always read my emails from CARP.
Informed
Informed. Informed. Informed.
No other source provide a collection of national perspective on political and other social issues that impact seniors. Although I don't directly participate, the initiatives representing our age group to influence government policy (national and sometimes provincial) are appreciated and well communicated.
Stay in the know
It's more important than ever to par
participate in your own health. Carp keeps an individual abreast of all things relevant to personal care.
Carp provides helpful timely information
Receiving regular online updates which include diverse valuable topics I.e health, finance, travel, wellness just to mention a few.
Advocate for seniors, including government policies I.e increase OAS, CPP payments to 65 years old.
There are in person and virtual meetings covering many topics.
Unlawful Age Discrimination
I have raised the issue of unlawful age discrimination and elder abuse imposed by the Government of Canada (GoC) on RRSP and RRIF owners with CARP, Can Age , and other organizations perporting to have the best interests of seniors in mind. Written submissions to PM Trudeau; PM Carney; Finance Ministers Morneau, Freeland and Leblanc; Justice Ministers Lametti and Virani; Revenue Ministers Lebouthillier and Bibeau; former Seniors Ministers Tassi and Schulte; and Bob Hamilton (Commissioner of the CRA) did not attract concern. None have acknowledged unlawful discrimination or elder abuse because of age 71 and beyond. Age is a prohibited ground of discrimination [Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Charter), and Canadian Human Rights Act (CHRA).
It is unlawful to publish a statement or notice of intent to discriminate. It is unlawful to incite others to discriminate CHRA, and lawful Provincial human rights protection legislation.
The Income Tax Act (ITA) S. 146 (2)(b.4) contains provisions prohibiting the Minister to approve and register services enabling access to RRSP tax-deferral benefits beyond year end when age 71 is reached. Any amounts remaining in an RRSP beyond this point are subject to taxation in that year. This qualifies as unlawful coercion and extortion by way of threats and harassment. Victims of this age discrimination are exposed to annual non-voluntary taxable RRIF withdrawals based on the published Chart - Prescribed factors, which governs the mandatory RRIF withdrawal schedule. This document is evidence of calculated and deliberate intent to discriminate based on age by the GoC.
I have presented these concerns to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation, Justice System for Constitutional Freedoms, CBC's Marketplace, and Rebel News for their consideration and support action. The silence has been deafening and extremely disappointing.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 30 does not approve of any State, group or individual to compomise their obligations. The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights Article 5 includes the same provision. Several Provincial human rights legislation provisions reference these documents. The World Health Organization defined Elder Abuse and this was relied on by Employment and Social Development Canada and RCMP. PM Trudeau directed the Minister of Justice and Seniors Minister to define Elder Abuse in his 2019 Mandate letters. He directed all Ministers to defend the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in his 2019 and early 2021 Mandate letters. PM Trudeau stated: "The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) exists to serve Canadians." in his November 12, 2015 Mandate letter to Minister Lebouthillier (Minister of National Revenue).
The continued existence of the offending ITA provision is in direct confiict with all above laws affording protection from age discrimination. It renders all human rights protection provisions to be fraudulent misrepresentations, or - do they identify the offending ITA provisions to be an unlawful and fraudulent misrepresentation and of no force?
Meanwhile, a federal court ruled the Taxpayer Bill of Rights to have no legal standing in 2024. The Canadian Human Rights Commission has no authority to challenge legislation. The GoC does not know what unlawful age discrimination and elder abuse are evidenced by reliance on outside consultants who provided reference to elder mistreatment in Canada in a 2023 Report.
Requests of Wilson Miao (M.P.) and former Minister of State for Seniors, Alice Wong (M.P.) failed to attract any reponse or support.
Based on this personal experience, I undertook direct action by serving notice on the Revenue Minister with effect from April 1, 2019 of a claim for unspecified damages resulting from harm and injury caused by unlawful age discrimination and elder abuse. This charge exceeds $1,000,000 now. I declared any alleged tax claimed by the CRA on unlawfully tax exposed income including that denied access to RRSP tax-deferral benefits, non-voluntary RRIF withdrawal tax exposure and subsequent non-voluntary tax exposure resulting from tax exposed investment income to be unlawful and of no effect. I added a claim of $100,000 per instance of the Government of Canada attacking my property for alleged tax payment obligations, more recently. I consider the claims for tax payments to be unlawful and of no force due to age discrimination and elder abuse. I am not aware of any unlawful claim.
The GoC continues to steal lawful rights to RRSP benefits and exposes individuals to unlawful and non-voluntary RRIF taxation. Higher tax because of age! SHAME!
Is CARP Truly Pan-Canadian and Balanced in its Positions with the Government?
From my experiences over the past 4 years CARP appears to be Toronto-centric. In addition, I do not find most of the “deals” offered by CARP as competitive as what I can find elsewhere.
Your stance with the government on senior’s issues appears overly greedy at times.

I don't have a lot of experience dealing with CARP. I believe you do a lot of good work and I have been a member for a while. I believe that if I needed help I could get assistance from yiu.

CARP Works For Me!
I enjoy being a member of CARP because they advocate on behalf of older persons. They hold our federal politicians’ feet to the ground (CARP National), as well as our provincial and municipal elected officials (provincial CARP chapters). I also enjoy being a member of a group of like-minded persons who enjoy this stage of life by being active and engaged.

I rely on CARP to pass on information…
I rely on CARP to pass on information that is important to me (at 87) e.g. vaccine updates ,changes to income tax regulations, and they are very good at that. Having been our of thelabour force for a long time, my computer skills are rusty and the technology keeps advancing, so I would like more info on things like Microsoft changes in password procedure and how to safeguard our privacy and security with new computer technology rather like New York Times Wirecutter reviews of products, and similar program on CNN.
