Booking car rental is a complete scam

Booking car rental is a complete scam. First you pay complete insurance to Booking and then rental house (Herz-Thirfty) charges same thing but 3x the price. You are boxed in because you paid the reservation to booking and when you want to pickup a car, rental house insists that you sign a contract with full insurance. No help from Booking customer support because they are saying it was between me and rental house. Rental house took the money and they do not want to explain why they insisted on the contract. If you complain they will say that I have asked for additional insurance and signed the contract.

I had a very disappointing experience booking a rental car through Booking.com.

The conditions are extremely misleading. Nowhere in the main booking process is it clearly stated that if you don’t arrive at the exact pickup time, you can lose your car without any refund, even if you’ve paid for a full week rental. This critical information is hidden deep in the terms and conditions, which is not transparent or fair to customers.

We were traveling for a holiday, and due to minor delays, we arrived slightly later — only to be told that our car was gone and our money was lost. No flexibility, no understanding, no solution offered.

This completely disrupted the start of our trip and caused unnecessary stress and extra costs to arrange another car last minute.

This kind of practice feels deceptive and customer-unfriendly. A platform like Booking.com should ensure that such important conditions are clearly highlighted before payment, not buried in fine print.

I would strongly advise others to be very careful when booking car rentals through Booking.com, as this experience felt more like a trap than a service.

Very disappointing.

2 heures de retard, frais, aucun support

Véhicule disponible avec 2 heures de retard (agence : Enterprise, Bristol, UK) et besoin d'aller le récupérer dans une autre agence. Dédommagement promis pour cela, jamais versé.
Facturation d'un plein de carburant alors que le véhicule a été rendu avec le plein (Booking dit que c'était dans le contrat, mais il n'était absolument pas clair).
Aucune aide de Booking...

Our experience with this car rental…

Our experience with this car rental booking through Booking.com was extremely disappointing and stressful. Despite having a confirmed reservation under booking number 782544865 for pick-up at Lisbon Airport on 11 April 2026 at 00:00, no representative of Drive on Holidays appeared at the arrivals area as clearly instructed in the booking. We strictly followed all pick-up instructions, waited for more than 1.5 hours at the designated Vodafone store and Olá ice cream shop, searched the entire airport including the shuttle bus area, and repeatedly called the provided phone number (+351 212 697 488) from 23:51 until 01:00 with no response. No reference to any other company name was mentioned anywhere in the booking, so we could neither know nor assume that another brand might be involved. As a result of their complete absence and lack of communication, we were forced to leave the airport and incur transportation costs.
Due solely to this failure to perform their contractual obligations, we suffered financial loss and significant inconvenience. We had to pay €70 for a taxi during the night and an additional €15 for a Bolt ride on the morning of 11 April 2026, and we effectively lost the first half-day of our rental, only receiving the vehicle around 12:00. We have formally requested reimbursement of €85 for transportation costs and a refund for the first rental day, as these are the minimum consequences of their bad-faith and non-contractual behavior. We strongly caution other customers: this experience demonstrates a lack of reliability, accountability, and basic consumer respect, making this rental provider a risky and unsafe choice.

Expérience extrêmement décevante avec une réservation de voiture via Booking.com.

Nous avions réservé et payé à l’avance un véhicule, avec une assurance complète souscrite plusieurs semaines avant. Le jour de la récupération, après une longue marche sous la pluie à cause d’une localisation imprécise, nous avons été refusés au comptoir.

Motif : carte de crédit exigée.
Or, cette condition n’était absolument pas claire au moment de la réservation. Il est mentionné “carte de crédit”, mais à aucun moment il n’est explicitement indiqué que les cartes de débit sont refusées — ce qui est pourtant une information essentielle.

Aucune solution ne nous a été proposée sur place, contrairement à ce qui est affirmé par le service client par la suite. Nous avions déjà une assurance, donc impossible d’accepter une “alternative” consistant à repayer.

Résultat : service non fourni, aucune assistance sur place, et montant intégral conservé.

Impossible également de contacter le service client sur le moment (à l’étranger, sans réseau), ce qui nous est ensuite reproché.

Malgré plusieurs échanges, aucun remboursement n’est proposé, en s’appuyant sur des conditions peu visibles et ambiguës.

Conclusion : un manque de transparence sur des conditions essentielles, et un service client qui se décharge totalement de ses responsabilités.

Je déconseille fortement cette plateforme pour la location de voiture.

Annulation unilatérale pour un préjudice de 340 €

Avis très négatif. Suite à l'annulation d'un vol par une compagnie aérienne ( problèmes de grève), je demande à Booking et à l'agence de location de voitures à l'étranger de pouvoir prendre en charge le véhicule le lendemain du jour prévu. Il s'agit là d'une modification des conditions du contrat, autorisée par les conditions générales. Booking annule le contrat de location cde la voiture, retient 640 € que j'ai payés, et me rembourse 300 €

Robbers ,Fraud RentalCars.com

Robbers ,Fraud , If I could give minus 5 stars 🌟 I would .
This company took full payment for a Rental Car in Nov 2025 , when I went to the car hire (OKMotability Piza Airport) I was told I need to put down a €2000 deposit even though I had taken out full Insurance with RentalCars.com (scammers) .
They would not accept my Revolut Credit Card even though I paid in full with Revolut.
I had no choice but to take about a new car hire agreement with okay Motability (what was I to do? Walk to Florence with the wife and children? ) the staff in OK Motability who were very nice to deal with explained that I should be able to get a refund.
I was refunded the insurance I paid, however I still haven’t been refunded for the car hire €388.00 WHERE IS THE MONEY ??
Okay, mobility have been paid for the car because I paid them in full.
So what have RentalCars.com done with my money?
They haven’t paid okay OK Motability and haven’t refunded me…..
Is this not fraudulent……
As it stands, it looks like I have more chance of getting a refund from the guy doing the 3 cups and 1 ball in the back streets of Florence.
I’m sure I won’t get a response on the basis that these people are hiding now behind some small Print somewhere.
I’m making my mission to enlighten anybody else who attempts to book anything with this company stay away steer clear …….

Do not rent a car on Booking.com. I've rented a car through Booking.com in Barcelona and paid all amount in advance with full insurance covering the trip. When me and my family got to the car rental company (Enterprise, their local partner) office for pick-up, we got no car, because they did not have any. They were explaining that the truck with the whole batch of cars did not arrive and this is why they are unable to provide us with a car we ordered. They marked us on their list and asked to contact Booking.com for refund. It was a bit shocking but I thought, okay, I've booked through Booking.com so I will get my money back. Contacted Booking.com, got confirmation from their team that I should try to rent a car with another company and they will compensate me the difference. Sounds okay, some trouble but still, we loose some time and got another car in another company, paid 30% more but I was happy that we at least have the car and are able to drive to another city, another booked stay in the hotel. But... I've send all documents, invoices and even screenshots of their promises from Booking.com chat and still got nothing. I mean, I've got few apologetic emails, but no refund and no compensation. Still pushing but no hope. Each time the email is answered by another person and promised to check something, now they write that my case is referred to Customer Relations team specialising in handling complex cases. Still nothing.

Pésima experiencia

Pésima experiencia , alquilé un coche con ellos (ahora veo que por error) 4 horas antes de pedir cancelarlo.
Al cancelar , me cobran el 100% de lo pagado (tres días de alquiler) aludiendo a que se ha cancelado a menos de 48 horas del alquiler. Pero:
-1 -Alquilé a menos de 24 horas (de hecho cancelé 4 horas después) y no me dijeron que alquilar a menos de 48 horas elimina cualquier derecho de cancelación.
2-Me cobraron 3 dias de alquiler por una reserva de 4 horas!!!
Mi consejo: SI UNA EMPRESA NECESITA RECURRIR A ESTO, (QUE EN MI OPINIÓN ES UNA ESTAFA YA QUE NO ME AVISARON DE QUE PERDIA MI RERECHO A CANCELAR LA RESERVA A MENOS DE 48 HORAS), NI TE ACERQUES A ESTA EMPRESA.
Otras empresas que he conocido , nunca han recurrido a artimañas de este tipo, yo prefiero trabajar con empresas serias.
No soy de poner quejas , pero esta empresa me ha llevado a tomármelo por lo personal y avisar a el resto de consumidores. No es una cuestión de precio.
Ahora veo que debí consultar las reseñas antes.

Über Booking.com gebucht Vermieter Antwortet nicht schlüssel waren nicht wie beschrieben vorhanden, Booking.com solte haften tat es nicht.
Störnirung ist bis zum letzten Tag offen geblieben, letzter Tag abgelehnt.

Vorsicht.

Negative Bewertungen bei Buchungen über booking.com werden scheinbar nicht veröffentlicht. Damit verlieren die Bewertungen auf der booking. com an Bedeutung. Habe ich mehrmals erlebt. Positive Bewertungen dagegen werden sofort veröffentlicht.

Ontzettend teleurstellend

Ontzettend teleurstellend, niet de vriendelijke gasten van de Callcenter maar in de oplossing van booking..Op locatie is de geboekte auto niet beschikbaar, Op Bilbao Airport. Ook geen alternatief! Het voorstel om geld terug te storten en een andere auto te boeken in deze klasse lijkt goed, maar er zijn bij de diverse rentalcars geen auto.s meer in de klasse. Wel andere klasse. Booking weigert dit om te zetten..
Dus heb ik geen auto .Het resultaat is een taxi van 200 euro naar San Sebastian en 6 dagen geen auto...oplossing was 15%korting op een volgende booking. Ook de manager belde nog even op verzoek terug .Met dezelfde boodschap. Waren er oplossingen? Ja! Een auto in een iets duurdere klasse, maar was niet bespreekbaar. Ze zouden kunnen aanbieden om een auto in San Sebastian te regelen en die laten afleveren in het Hotel? AaGoedentip van de manager.Vul een klacht in. Bewaar het bonnetje van de taxi dan kan ik die indienen..Op de vraag of ze die vergoeden kreeg ik een niet een bevestiging hierop maar een wazig antwoord.. Lekker bezig boeking..boeking nr..777933619

Via Booking.com een auto met verzekering geboekt…

Via Booking.com een auto geboekt (Goldcar Alicante) en een verzekering via Booking.com afgesloten. Ter plaatse in Alicante bij Goldcar spraken ze ineens alles behalve Spaans en zonder nieuwe verzekering kon de auto niet gehuurd worden. Nu weigeren ze om deze dubbele betaling terug te betalen... (199,32€)... Ik wacht intussen meer dan een jaar!! Dus mensen boek geen auto, geen verzekering via booking.com en zeker niet met Goldcar (die trouwens onder Europcar valt)...

Very bad experience

Very bad experience. €300 deposit was not returned for months and all my messages were ignored.
I had to contact the main office (not connected to the franchise) to get my money back.
Booking.com did not provide real support and only offered a 10% discount.
I do not recommend.

never use booking.com for car rental

made and paid for a car booking for a holiday in USA through the booking.com app. Car company did not recognise the booking, as it was 'fradulent' as the price i paid was for british citizens which i did not qualify for (i'm staying in UK but have another passport)

essentially i had to pay on the spot for a fresh booking which was very expensive.

have been trying to contact customer service but every email reply is a different person who has clearly not read my email and has no desire to solve the problem, just pushing it to the next person.

this is terrible. i wish i read these reviews before i made the booking on booking.com

Horrible, cancelled my booking despite me telling them to keep it and that I'll pick up the vehicle the following day, to which the third party agreed to.

Lied about refunding the insurance money.

Avoid to use them at all cost.

Por Booking NO alquileis…

Cualquier compañía de alquiler antes que esta. Mi caso: Alquilo un coche a través de Booking, cuando llego al mostrador en la oficina de la estación de Ave de Málaga, como dicen que el coche era premium me exigen una tarjeta de crédito física a mi nombre para la fianza, al no tener allí, le ofrezco varias de débito o la de crédito de mi mujer allí presente, me dicen a todo que no porque tiene que estar a nombre del conductor, le propongo cambiar a nombre de mi mujer y se niegan, me dicen que al ser por booking no se puede modificar nada. Me dicen que lo arregle con Booking, los llamo y estos me dicen que es cosa de Enterprise lo de cambiar un nombre o lo de la tarjeta. Como ya lo pagué el día anterior me dicen los 2 que me quedo sin coche y sin los 110€ . Sin duda EVITAR CONTRATAR COCHES POR BOOKING Y POR ENTERPRISE, EN VEZ DE FACILITAR LAS COSAS VAN A TRATAR DE ROBARTE LO QUE PUEDAS.

Fresh off my epic New Zealand trip (Lord of the Rings vibes minus the orcs), I'm still fuming over this rental disaster. Booking.com cancelled my paid car (#727168720) *without my input*, stranding me at Queenstown Airport's Budget counter. Here's the infuriating timeline:

- Dec 20, 2025: Booked via app, paid full (rental + insurance). Confirmed instantly.
- Dec 20, 2025–Feb 28, 2026: No changes from me—booking untouched.
- March 1, 2026: Added flight # via your support (per pickup rules).
- March 2, 2026: Updated confirmation, no warnings.
- March 4, 2026: Budget says "Booking.com cancelled it." Your chat blames supplier, confirms *not my cancel*, then forces refund despite my pleas: "I need the car for South Island drives!" Demands return boarding pass (mid-trip? Ha!), then proof to ####@cars.booking.com. Chat ghosts. Budget hero rebooks at same price.

Then, email hell: Shifting demands (screenshots you "already reviewed"), fake "you cancelled" claims, "policy exception" nonsense. Reps are saints, but your procedures? Punk'd-level gaslighting.

Years loyal, now done. My other Booking.com trip worked fine - pure luck. Fix supplier handoffs before hobbits revolt.

Arnaque a l'assurance. Assurance obligatoire en plus au moment du retrait du véhicule

Devoir payer une assurance de 85 euros en plus pour 3 jours de location et ce au moment du retrait du vehicule car la carte bancaire française est une carte de débit alors que dans le langage courant nous appelons notre carte bancaire une carte de crédit et non de débit. Location chez sicily by car qui laissait entendre un remboursement par booking si réclamation et ... bien non, refus de booking car nous avons signé le contrat de location... prendre les location en direct chez les loueurs et ne pas passer par booking. Tarifs attractifs via booking et qui ne le sont plus au final!
