Would highly recommend

I knew that I wanted to harvest my baby's cells once they were born and went to the Lidl Baby Show with a company in mind that I thought I wanted to use but I am so glad I approached Cells4Life. The ladies that were there were so informative and I felt that they took the time to treat me as an individual.
I proceeded with Cells4Life and even after the cells and placenta have been harvested they are still on hand to answer any questions that I have.

Amazing experience

Excellent customer service, good communication; very helpful answering all of our questions.

Professional and very knowledgeable

We’ve requested the service 12 hours before our son’s birth and although we needed to think through all plans which are available with cell 4life, they were patient and got everything done for us.
It was an amazing and stress free experience.

Unexpected price hikes!!

We thought this was a leading company for stem cell storage but expect a price hike after you’ve agreed your cost structure. Page 13 of your agreement says so!! My son is 9 months old, so they didn’t even wait the full year before increasing our cost, not sure how we are expected to rate them highly with such a poor service. I recommend seeking another service but unfortunately we are tied in!

We're sorry to learn you were unsatisfied with our recent price increase.

We clearly outline in the same agreement that, "Cells4Life reserves the right to increase the storage fee in line with the retail price index." (the Retail Price Index is the measure of inflation published by the government's Office for National Statistics).

This is something we have only chosen to do once in the last 20 years.

For example, a customer paying £100 per year will now pay £107 per year, an increase of 7% (RPI forecast to increase 9.8% in 2022).

We hope you can appreciate that any increase in price is a decision we take very seriously. Our aim is to make cord blood banking as affordable and accessible to our clients as possible. However, we must balance the financial needs of our customers against the ongoing financial viability of their stem cell storage.

Excellent customer service, good communication, couldn’t fault it. Used again for our second child and very pleased with Cells4Life and the phlebotomists.

Waited for the phlebotomist 2 hours after giving birth

The booking experience went successful, however when it came to the cell collection we had issues. We rang up our phlebotomist when I started contractions, then messaged him when I was told to go into hospital, very soon after we found out I was already 3cm, however, the phlebotomist did not believe that my labour was progressing so quickly due to it being my first. An hour later I became 8cm and we contacted them again and he still felt like he didn’t leave to come to the hospital even though he lived over an hour away. Half an hour later I started pushing my baby out and my partner contacted them to tell him and once again did not believe us but begrudgingly packed his stuff to leave. I had to wait an hour and a half with the placenta inside me after I had given birth due to him not leaving when we requested. We where upset with the outcome but where still keen for the service and waited for the arrival of the genetic testing which would take 3-4 weeks to arrive, 5 weeks later however we had still not heard anything and had made contact with Cells4Life. We then found out that the results bags been ready almost 2 weeks prior. We have very mixed opinions on the service, but cannot make a set opinion until we have utilised our stems cells.

Customer service not helpful at all

Customer service not helpful at all. They force you to buy it and then their tone changes.

Strongly AVOID Cells4Life…

I would strongly recommend Cells4Life is avoided. My sample was contaminated when it was taken. The phlebotomist changed at the last minute and the one we did get sent me a messaging saying (and I quote): "Please clamp the placenta and rap in inco sheet to keep warm". What?! Despite going in for a planned c-section (so the company knew the date), and despite regular updates that morning, the phlebotomist still arrived late (i.e. after the birth) and seemed unprofessional. Subsequently I've found their office staff aggressive and intimidating. They're extremely pushy and sale-sy. The explanation provided by the company about my contaminated sample was wildly insufficient. It is a common occurrence (so they say) and far more information should be provided by them if that's the case. They should also give you longer than 14 days to decide what to do. 14-days after having given birth is insufficient! In addition, you are unable to get out of the 25-year storage fee charges, even if you have your samples destroyed!

Hello T Watson. We are sorry to hear that you felt you had a bad experience with our team and your phlebotomist.
We have passed on your feedback to the phlebotomy company, who were a little surprised, as you had rated your phlebotomist 5 stars on the day. Whilst it is understandable that you were unsettled by the change in phlebotomist, this would only have been done so that the collection could be carried out as soon as possible. This was achieved, as the collection was performed 12 minutes after birth – which is within normal parameters and would not be considered a delay.
We always conduct sterility checks to see if any bacteria are present within the samples. Whilst contaminations are rare, due to the unsterile nature of birth, it is not possible to completely mitigate the risk. We provide as much information as we can about the implications of a given contamination, but the use of a sample will always depend on the specific circumstances of the patient and therapy, so it is rarely possible to be definitive. This is why you are given the option to store or dispose of a contaminated sample and pay no further fees should you choose disposal.
Should you choose to destroy a contaminated sample, it is not the case that you still have to pay the 25 year storage fees. These are always removed, so it sounds like there is some confusion in your case. Please do get back in touch with us to discuss this directly. Cells4Life Team.
