Utter Rot
I was not even their client but I can say that I will certainly ask who is the conveyancer for the vendor when I next buy a property.
They measure their customer service with the wrong yardstick. After over 3 months with my solicitor constantly chasing for a property with no chain from either end and Bairstowe Eves who had recommended Countrywide to the vendor say ‘well I have known it take far longer’.
Is this how you should measure your performance?
After finally hunting down the vendor via Facebook. Both the vendor and I had to come to the conclusion that Countrywide were lying to both of us….
Avoid at all costs.
Whether buying or selling…
Absolutely avoid!
Like many, our estate agency recommended them because ‘things will be easier as kept in the house and also the seller is using them’. It was a nightmare:
• they kept misspelling our names on documents we needed to sign or documents had wrong information on them
• it was hard to get in touch with them
• solicitors going on leave without leaving any type of handover for people covering for them
• absolutely no rush from their end when chasing up for something that was needed
• few documents needed for the completion got lost twice!
• broken fax machine didn’t allow documents needed for the exchange to be faxed therefore there was a week delay which created a lot of stress as we were renting and needed to submit a notice and also needed to book time off work
• not representing their clients’ frustrations to other parties at all
• not giving any updates unless they needed something from us or being chased by us – when providing updates they always omitted a lot of information and gave incomplete answers
• delays with literally everything created by their inefficiency
And now after 5 months from the exchange date they contacted us again to pay a fee they omitted from our final statement!
Everything required by us was done in a day or two, however they don’t put any effort into something that is required from them, and considering the amount of money they charge for their services they should be ashamed of themselves. We understand that is probably difficult to find a good solicitor, but if we could go back in time we would have chosen someone else – we do not recommend Countrywide Conveyancing Services at all!
Do NOT use
Do NOT use. These lawyers are incompetent and cannot even manage simple tasks. If you are recommended these people by your estate agent, find an alternate solution.
Please do not use this company
Please do not use this company ! Like so many other people we were recommended them by our estate agents ! We were assigned 2 lawyers in their Cardiff branch and they decided mid way to change our lawyer who was dealing with our purchase this should have been the most easy transition ever regarding buying and selling of properties as their were no chains no mortgages involved just cash transactions we sold in March 2021 offer acceptance on our purchase in June 2021 and only completed in November 2021 a complete nightmare costing us to miss out on the stamp duty ‘holiday’ so much paperwork lost and having to be resubmitted poor communication part time working lawyers never again !
My poor Mother in Law is nearly 95 and…
**Edit!! 13.7.22 My poor Mother in Law is now 95 and we have been waiting nearly a year for this company to deal with her move. Everyone (bar the top) in the chain is using Countrywide. No one knows what is happening. Well if Countrywide can't communicate with Countrywide...... well that says it all doesn't it!!! A year to a 94 year old lady is long time.... she is now 95. We despair.
My poor Mother in Law is nearly 95 and has been waiting 10 months to move house to be near her family! It would/may have happened after 7 months - which is bad enough! but due to Countrywide's lack of communication the vendors finally had enough and put the property back on the market and she had to find another property to buy! So here we are still waiting 10 months later!
My poor husband who is dealing with it all is at his wits end and very depressed, as is my mother in law although she is putting on a brave face. My husband get vague messages through the portal and email and they don't respond to him when he replies asking for more detail, and as for trying to phone... he must have spent 100s of hours on hold only to get through to the call centre then to be told the relevant solicitors aren't in the office/available etc. They say they will phone back and they don't. They use a different solicitor for the sale and purchase so it's even more disjointed, solicitors regularly leave and someone else takes on the case, they regularly ask again for documents they have already been sent, all in all it's been a nightmare - take my advice if you want to keep your sanity and avoid this company!!!!!!
EDIT ..... STILL WAITING!! 2 WEEKS AGO WE WERE TOLD EVERYONE WAS READY TO EXCHANGE!! STILL WAITING!! DREADFUL COMPANY!!! IT'S MAKING MY HUSBAND ILL!!!
Worst experience of my life
I was recommended these solicitors by my estate agent. I had a really positive experience with them, so thought I could do no wrong. It turns out, I was very wrong.
I was assigned the Cardiff team and had two lawyers (Wendy and Sian) who were job sharing and they constantly left things to each other, meaning my house purchase took over six months to complete as a result. They would resend me documents I already had, give me paperwork with information that was incorrect (which I then had to point out) and for months had my house written in all documentation as a flat.
Once I complained, I had an email from a manager apologising for all of Wendy and Sian's errors and acknowledging the level of service I had received.
Irrespective of that, 18 months on and I have just received my Title Information Document, which also has incorrect information on. It's been a total mess and I simply can't believe the two lawyers that I had are deemed appropriate for delivering "the best outcome for customers" as quoted on the website.
Countrywide held up my sale every step…
Countrywide held up my sale every step of the way, they took over a week to review documents despite being constantly chased, they refused to communicate unless they wanted to, it was a state of complete and utter incompetence the whole chain was ready for weeks and they were still getting Terms and Conditions signed as they missed it DO NOT USE! The sale still has not completed and they still refuse to speak to anyone or move the matter forward.
Samantha Burke
Samantha Burke, from the Countrywide Conveyancing Services Cardiff was very instrumental in getting our purchase completed. We were really fortunate to have Sam, Louise and team handle our case. A very special thank you to Sam for everything you have done for us In the last few months.
Nearly lost a sale thanks to their…
Nearly lost a sale thanks to their incompetence and slowness!!!! Why can't these people do their job properly.
My worst nightmare
Never ever do business with them!!!! Where should I begin?
1. They never reply a single word to my estate agent's and my questions.
2. They lost my mortgage consent and my wife had to sign another one.
3. The seller's solicitor sent the reply for my solicitor's enquiry to them and they missed it and thought the seller's solicitor was not cooperating.
4. I uploaded my survey report 2 months ago and last week they asked me for the report again without even checking their document portal
5. We started our purchase process since Feb 2022 and today is 4 May and it is still not yet finished
Avoid at all costs
Avoid at all costs. There was very little communication from them between any of the parties involved. When they did communicate is was short and abrupt and passing blame to the other party. They gave their client, the purchaser the run around from day one - the stress they were putting on their client was off the scale. I would never recommend using them as conveyancers.
Please avoid!
Please avoid.
We made the painful mistake of using CCS when moving house.
They were recommended to us via our estate agent, and to keep everything under one roof and hopefully speed up the process of buying/selling, we agreed to use them.
How wrong were we!
We sold our house in July 2020 and it was mid March 2021 by the time we moved.
Delayed paperwork, searches not completed in a timely manner, no communication. They only acted when we threatened a complaint. We were in a large chain and one group even lost their sale at one point due to the length of time this took.
We’re patient people but this drove us to despair. We were so close to pulling out many times purely to stress.
Awful experience which added to the heartache of losing 3 immediate relatives during the pandemic/lockdowns. The stress this company have caused us is unbelievable and 51 weeks after finally moving house, we’ve just received confirmation that they want £390 off us for a piece of paper to be sent to our estate management, to confirm we now own the property. They misplaced this paperwork for a year and now we’re required to pay for this error?
If this was completed when it was supposed to be - over a year ago - it wouldn’t have been a problem. We were expecting numerous fees at this point and had the funds to do so.
I can only imagine this sheet of paper has been sat at the bottom of a pile somewhere collecting dust.
We had to pay this and did so around 4 weeks ago.
Our estate management where we’re due to pay ground rent to, is now chasing us up for the rent as they haven’t received this payment from the solicitor! So they’ve now taken £400 off of us and not paid the estate management as agreed. We will likely end up having to pay additional charges for a late fee. I am so angry and frustrated. Messing with people lives and money is not a joke.
A massive, massive complaint headed their way and likely to the legal ombudsman. I’m sure it won’t help us in anyway but I can’t just sit back anymore and let them walk over people. People put a lot of trust in these companies to sort out the legalities of selling/buying a house just to have them take advantage and cause unnecessary upset.
Please, please use a reliable solicitor in your area with great reviews and recommendations. If we can ever gain enough strength to move house again, we will do the same.
Unbelievably bad
Unbelievably bad. I had to call solicitor around 6 times a day to get noticed. Took months to sort out all my sale and purchase.
Then countrywide took over 2months to pay my estate agent even tho they had taken the money from me. Now currently a country court claim is in action because they were incompetent and didn't claim back the overpayment of service charge that I was due. Countrywide sent this letter and that was 4 weeks ago now and still haven't paid me.
I'm not going away and will fight until it's paid.
If I could give no stars I would
If I could give no stars I would. The worst conveyancing company I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with. Don’t reply to emails, take months to reply to enquires - just don’t care. Just been advised our solicitor has gone off on annual leave with no one to replace them. The worst ever - AVOID
My estate agent recommended this…
My estate agent recommended this company thankfully we will NOT be instructing them to have anything to do with the sale of our home, from what I've read on here they are terrible at there job. And also very very expensive........its a no from me.......
-5 Is my rating
-5 Is my rating. 4th house sale and worst conveyancing experience. They don't answer emails, they have delayed a single sale, no chain for 16wks. Searches back since 4th Feb 22, other sale mid covid took 8wks. They don't look at the portal, they don't have complaints process apparently. Country Wide recommended them and they don't communicate. I'm paying mortgage on an empty house due to delays!. Got asked 4mths after commencing work on my sale to prove my ID! I requested £500 reduction in my fee and wow I got a phone call that day so they do read some messages....then radio silence. Go else where is my recommendation.
Awful company that I would not…
Awful company that I would not recommend to anyone. This is the 5th house sale I’ve been involved with and far and away the most stressful because of them. It’s impossible to get a straight answer from them about anything if they bother to answer you at all (they usually just ignore you). They’re completely incompetent in the Manchester team and have made a stressful situation much much worse. If they do ever reply to you (only by email as they won’t communicate by phone) they never answer all of your queries. They are also painfully slow - 3 weeks to raise enquiries on a sale they were meant to be prioritising after they gave the wrong information about the chain in the first place. Avoid at all costs if you’d like to keep your blood pressure down.
I would give negative stars if I could
I would give negative stars if I could. It is now 9 months since the sale finally went through, but still suffering the ill-effects caused by their antics. they even held matters up for weeks with bizarre questions about what proved to be someone else's property. No apology.
When I tried to complain internally they told me not to contact them again. As they were used by the buyers not by me, impossible to establish a formal complaint but wrote to the solicitors regulatory body, who at least have it on file. Advise all others with bad experiences to do the same. I appreciate there must be some good people as in any company, but most are appalling and the organisation is clearly reflecting a contemptuous, incompetent leadership, taking money for doing little, and that badly.
I couldn't speak more highly...
I will be honest and say that after our estate agents had recommended Countrywide Conveyancing Services and we had signed up to the service, my husband noticed a number of poor reviews on this site. We were worried based on the reviews to the extent that we contacted a different company when we were ready to start our onward purchase. The company we contacted said normally people use the same company and so reluctantly at first we signed up to Countrywide Conveyancing Services for our property purchase.
We are so pleased we did. Keely has been fantastic. She had a number of phone calls with my husband. Nothing seemed too much trouble. She responded to email contact through the portal quickly. She helped to calm any stress we had with the move which were all related to our survey appointment and mortgage offer.
Between my husband and I, this is the 4th house we have purchased (and our first purchase together.)
This has by far been out best experience from a conveyancing service and we found the conveyancing connect portal easy to use.
I am updating my previous review
I am updating my previous review that I left in November. STILL not exchanged and completed! Information that should have been obtained in September still hasn't been done. Our vendor has pulled out at zero hour and now we have to find another property. My grandmother is 94 and this has been going on since August 2021!
