DoneDeal Cars is Ireland’s favourite place to buy a car (Human8, Independent Research, 2026), with 2.2 million people using DoneDeal Cars every month and 3.5 million across DoneDeal overall. For over 20 years, DoneDeal has been part of homes, farms and families, a place where people have bought and sold everything from kitchen tables to farm machinery to cars. That’s where DoneDeal began: Ireland’s general marketplace, connecting communities across the country. But Ireland has evolved. And so has DoneDeal. We’ve grown from a general buy-and-sell site into Ireland’s largest car marketplace, built for everyone from learners to lifelong drivers. Today, DoneDeal Cars is Ireland’s number one car marketplace, with more new and used cars for sale from dealerships than any other site. With over 86,000 cars available, 80% are listed by dealerships, and many are now DoneDeal Cars Trusted Dealers, offering warranties, verified history checks and top-rated service, so peace of mind comes as standard. Behind DoneDeal Cars is a team across Ireland focused on making car buying better, safer and simpler. Because buying a car should feel this good.

Good service, easy to find what you're looking for

They charge 4–5 times more than other marketplace competitors. The customer service is absolutely pathetic don’t expect any real help. Response times are incredibly slow, often taking days, which is unacceptable in this day and age. Overall, Ireland badly needs a better alternative to this.

DoneDeal used to be the go-to place for buying and selling secondhand items. Unfortunately, it now feels like the platform has shifted its focus almost entirely toward pushing higher-priced motor trade advertising. If you’re searching for cars, you’ll mostly find dealership listings rather than the genuine private 1-to-1 sales that originally made DoneDeal popular. It’s a real shame to see what the platform has become — though maybe not surprising from the company behind Daft.

Ridiculously overpriced to place an ad for sale.... The price goes up the more expensive your car is....Then to boost it's nearly the price of the ad all over again. I hope someone creates another company and puts ye out of business.

Spent almost €100 placing a car ad. Supplied tax registration document number so that Greenlight verification would appear. So, Greenlight appeared - that is until I edited the ad a few days later. The Greenlight disappeared and a message appeared on my ad “We are unable to display any history due to insufficient information provided by the seller” Basically that was telling any potential buyers that I didn’t supply details to give the Greenlight verification - which is a lie.
Once I noticed it I queried it with Donedeal.ie and a ‘Roberto’ replied that “manual edits to your ad will cause the greenlight verification to drop from your ad.
Nowhere did the site mention this. Greenlight, in fact, is only mentioned once in their terms, and nothing to do with editing the ad.
I had to send photos of the Reg. document and Greenlight was re-instated. However, I’d lost two weeks approx. of it being on my ad, and saves didn’t increase.
Roberto informed me too that “greenlight verification is a free feature that is not part of the price to pay for ads”
So all in all, for almost €100, I feel robbed by Donedeal as they removed a feature they supplied during the listing process - obviously to make people buy a €25 report on the car. (By the wording I mentioned above that they ADDED to my ad about insufficient information)
Ticket ID No. 3380749
EDIT: My communication with Donedeal was already through the ‘Hello’ email address. Here is the text. As yiu can see, there was absolutely no effort to re-instate the Spotlight’ aspect. And you’re operating the Greenlight ‘as intended’

Hi Pat,
Thank you for your reply.
I am afraid that the greenlight verification is working as intended. Please, also bear in mind that greenlight verification is a free feature that is not part of the price to pay for ads.
We have given your ad a free bump as a once off goodwill gesture, but we are unable to provide any further compensation or add your ad to the spotlight.
Please let us know if you have any further queries or comments. Our Customer Support Team are always happy to help.
Kind regards,
Roberto

I think you should also re-Spotlight the ad too.
In your terms there is just one mention of the word Greenlight, and it doesn't refer to the verification being removed when editing an ad.

Hi Pat,
Thank you for your reply.
I've now readded the Greenlight verification badge to your ad and bumped it to the top of the listings! You can view your updated ad.
I am afraid that this setting can't be removed due to transparency reasons, and it is intended that the greenlight verification disappears when manual edits are made to the ad. However, we will pass on your feedback on to our product team.
Please let us know if you have any further queries or comments. Our Customer Support Team are always happy to help.

That's pretty disgraceful, as there is nothing mentioned on the edit page that this would happen.
I've attached the log book as requested. I expect that if I edit the address again that the same doesn't happen. Basically this has put my ad back 2 weeks, as well as making the spotlight part that I paid for irrelevant.

Hi Pat,
Thank you for contacting us.
Please, bear in mind that manual edits to the ad will cause the greenlight verification to drop from your ad.
To manually add the Greenlight verification banner to your ad, please send us a photo of both the front and back of your logbook document. We will review it and get back to you shortly.
Awaiting your reply.
Kind regards,
Roberto

Hi. having spent quite a lot of money on my ad, I find now that it’s no longer advertised as Greenlight Verified - it was originally, and documentation was provided. Now there is a statement on it “We are unable to display any history details due to insufficient information provided by the seller.” I am very disappointed that such a notice has been attached to my ad. It’s basically telling viewers that I’m dishonest. The number of views has decreased, and there have been no further saves on it over 2 weeks. It’s still stuck at 4. That is down to DoneDeal I believe.

Great app to navigate. But a recent update has taken away the option to select Ulster, Munster etc and only individual select Monaghan, Tyrone Donegal etc is not great (just my opinion) as before you could select Ulster and it covered all counties in Ulster or which ever province you wanted to select. Pricing for ads is good

Using done deal to buy/sell cattle is a terrible experience, nothing but dealers on it with cattle with 3 and 4 moves, not many genuine farmers selling anymore. Also had an ad up on done deal last year for cattle, paid nearly €20 for it and only got 1 phone call, had animals advertised for 1500 each and they made from 1480 to 1700 at the mart so I was actually under pricing them, terrible service and would never advertise again. Only reason I haven’t left a review before this is that I haven’t seen a place to leave a review. Way too expensive and no competition
