Elmhurst Energy - Training Provider 100%

Elmhurst Energy is a training provider for Energy Assessors to assess a home for an EPC or a Retrofit Assessment. I have had training from Elmhurst Energy for Domestic Energy and Retrofit Assessments. The training was informative, interactive and examples were used of your own dwelling so you could really understand what you were learning. The software they use is user friendly and easy to understand with very clear instructions. Help is always available from training providers and their support centre for any advice or guidance you may need. Elmhurst doesn’t come up with a random scoring system for EPCs, it goes on what data the assessor has recorded as well as photographic evidence, as with other accreditation schemes.
Elmhurst have a training programme that ensure all assessors are collating the correct data to get the correct rating.

Spent thousands insulating home

Spent thousands insulating home, new roof, insulation boards, new front door, additional loft insulation, new cladding with exterior insulation. Had Elmhurst for EPC, they never even came to my house, I have never spoken to anyone from the organisation and somehow they have magically LOWERED my EPC rating.

Tax and enegery bill money is being spent on this organisation as they work on behalf of WarmWorks Scotland. Gross.

Resposta da Elmhurst Energy

Hi Sam,

Thank you for sharing your experience with us and we are sorry to hear about the issues you have encountered.

We would like to clarify that Elmhurst Energy does not directly conduct Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) assessments. These assessments are carried out by accredited members, who complete work independently. Elmhurst provides them with support, training, and software to ensure they can perform their duties effectively.

If you have concerns about an EPC assessment, we recommend contacting Warmworks Scotland directly, as they oversee the work carried out on their behalf. They will be able to assist you further with your complaint.

We understand your frustration and are committed to ensuring that all assessments are conducted fairly and accurately. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

I had the misfortune of using this Company

I had the misfortune of having an EPC through this Company. My fully refurbished terraced house got a miserable E. Apparently this was because I didn’t have a wind turbine in my non existent garden, no heat exchange box on the pavement out front, no solar panels on the roof at a cost of £5000 in order to save £60 a year on electric and no insulation in the 12” thick solid walls! I also refuse to dig up my floor to have it insulated and underfloor heating installed. When I read the report I thought they had gone to the wrong house since my surveyor suggested it could be a low B rating, so I was shocked at the ‘experts’ low E rating. A complete waste of time and money.

Avoid at all cost they have marked as very poor cavity installation because they cannot see due to our render. Didn't even check if the windows were new and claimed this had no affect on the scoring then said they could come back for extra £10 and damage our new render to check for something we do have. They have also marked us from D to E after spending thousands improving the property.

Elmhurst Energy EPCs are not accurate.

I live in a social housing flat which had an EPC of E up until I complained to my landlord about how inefficient our flat was. Suddenly a new EPC replaced the existing one. No inspection had been carried out and claims of improved features were completely unjustifiable. I wrote to the assessor, Mr Jordan Noon, named on both EPCs asking him to explain. I had no response to various requests I made to him. I then contacted Elmhurst Energy as the Approved Organisation. Through much hassling they provided images of someone’s loft and roof insulation, an image of someone’s loft access hatch, and an image of my building’s entry close door. Only the close door, taken from the street, was of my building. None of the other evidence images were of my building. The EPC also states a floor area of 56m2 whereas my flat is a small studio that measures around 32m2. I don’t believe an inspection was made of my flat for either EPC.

In another instance friends bought a flat with an EPC rating of C also by Elmhurst Energy. Their certificate stated their flat had ceiling insulation and double glazing throughout. It actually has neither of these basic things so clearly was not actually inspected either.

I would not trust an Elmhurst Energy issued EPC. They appear to be entirely works of fiction.

Had EPC done and assessor documented…

Had EPC done and assessor documented that my cavity wall insulation was assumed not done dispite drill holes all over my walls. He now says he saw no drill holes so I contacted the warranty company who have confirmed that I have a 25 year guarantee and the photo evidence confirms that the walls have been filled. I have forwarded this info and documentation to elmhurst and as yet no response to ammend their mistake.

Don't bother - they wont help!

Even giving one star is too much, there really needs to be a ZERO/Dont Bother option..... I had an EPC certificate issued and was an E with a note recommended to have wall cavity installation.  BillSave came out and completed the cavity installation but instead of submitting an accurate certificate they instead downgraded the property to an F even though the property had a valid E certificate. By the time I realised the error BillSave had been Dissolved, so I contacted Elmhurst Energy Systems Ltd to complain,  I supplied the evidence showing not only had I completed the cavity installation but I had also had a full central heating and combi boiler installed earlier that year in the April before BillSave had come out to do the wall cavity in the September/October time that same year showing they had completed the survey incorrectly. Elmhurst Energy Systems Ltd REFUSE to take down this invalid certificate and reinstate my original certificate. Their final response was ‘get another one’.
They are supposed to be an accreditation service but really aren’t bothered. Total waste of time!

If it was possible to give zero stars i would. What a shambolic company to deal with, try and make out you don`t know what you are talking about, even though i work in construction. They tried to resolve the problem by sending the original assessor back with a new assessor so i could show them the cavity wall insulation and room in roof insulation that was actually there even though previous cert said it wasn`t. Both surveyors were happy with the evidence they saw but Elmhurst refused this evidence and tried fobbing me off. This is not finished as my next port of call is DHLUC.

AVOID ANY COURSE WITH ALL COST

I have just completed a training course with Elmhurst Energy and it has to be the worst training experience of my life. Everything was so very confusing and nothing was explained properly, i was asked at times for a resubmission because there was nothing attached but when i called the training i was told he didn't understand why i had been told that as he could see all the information requested (its almost like they didn't have the time to correctly check the work so they just sent some back without checking).
i personally recommened anyone wanting to take a course to not use Elmhurst Energy.

So poor and unprofessional its so very sad

Booked an assessor accredited by Elmhurst Energy. Guys turned up and I talked him through where everything was and opened door to garage where boiler was, switched on light and explained that i would open cupboard upstairs with hit water tank and controls. He went into the garage and was there for 10 minutes. He completed the assessment and explained to my wife that rating may be lower as he couldn't see insulation in loft as it was boarded. Several hours later he rang me to advise that he was dropping my rating from C to E because the boiler we had was was heating water for radiators and use using electricity! I explained that we had a gas supply and get the boiler serviced each year and our bills are higher in winter for gas. He said that was down to may the hob! I rang my gas service guy and asked people on the street with same size house and they all confirmed our boiler was A rated and heats radiators using gas. I rang assessor back and explained and he shut me down saying he just gathers the evidence and Elmhusrt make the decision. I asked if he could send me the pics so I could see if he missed anything. He declined and took offence that I thought he couldn't do his job. I explained that common sense says that someone who has serviced my boiler for 7 years would know if gas was heating my radiators, but he said he can't go on hearsay. He escalated it to senior technicians who also came back and backed him. So I asked him how I can challenge this. He explained that I would need to contact the boiler manufacturer and get them to provide schematics and technical details explaining that my boiler can use gas ro heat radiators. So when I quoted the name of the boiler manufacturer I needed to contact he asked me why I said that name. I told him that I had mentioned on several occasions my Ideal Logic 18 boiler as we all had the same model on our street. He quoted the name of the manufacturer of the hot water tank in the landing cupboard as the boiler! I explained that when he first arrived he went into the garage and the boiler was right in front of him (not housed in a cupboard) and he can't have missed it. But he did! And because of this I wasted an entire day from 9.30am to 7.30pm trying to resolve this error because this so called evidence gather didn't spot a massive boiler right in front of his eyes! These people don't appear to have any technical skills or knowledge and their job is to take pics and send them to so called experts who enter that into a system which spits out a rating. There is absolutely no common sense. If he had just asked us if he was unsure, or checked in with us before he left we could have alerted him to what he had blatantly missed. Even if he had sent me his pics as I had requested I could have explained that he's complete missed the boiler from his evidence! I'm astonished that someone in this field could actually believe that a house built in 2013 and has a gas supply would have a hot water tank as its only source of heating water to the entire 4 bed room house. This is just so poor and unprofessional its so very sad.

Unfair Ratings

Unfair Ratings, and Dubious Practices
I recently had the misfortune of dealing with this company that claimed to offer energy performance certification services. However, my experience with them was nothing short of frustrating and suspicious. In the spirit of transparency, I feel obligated to share my unsettling encounter with this business.

Lack of Transparency: ★☆☆☆☆ One of the first red flags I encountered was their complete lack of transparency. They do not share their reports unless specifically requested. This practice leaves consumers in the dark and raises questions about what they might be hiding. If a company is truly reputable, they should willingly provide their reports without hesitation.

Unfair and Incorrect EPC Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ The EPC rating I received from this company was shockingly unfair and, frankly, incorrect. Despite having clear evidence of appliances and home improvements, these were somehow overlooked, leading to an unjustifiably poor rating. It's astonishing that a company in this field could overlook such crucial details.

Ignoring Air Source Heat Pumps: ★☆☆☆☆ Furthermore, they failed to consider air source heat pumps as a potential source of improvement, even though these eco-friendly systems can significantly enhance a property's energy efficiency. This oversight reflects a lack of knowledge and professionalism.

Misleading Recommendations: ★☆☆☆☆ The icing on the cake was their suggestion that installing a wind turbine in my tiny garden would miraculously boost my energy rating to an A grade. This is not only impractical but also borders on absurdity. It's evident that they are more interested in making unrealistic suggestions than providing practical advice.

Delayed Certificate and Biased Opinions: ★☆☆☆☆ To top it off, it took them a whopping 10 days to lodge the EPC certificate, which is far from acceptable in today's fast-paced world. My experience with this company left me feeling not only dissatisfied but also deeply suspicious. Their unfair EPC rating, ignorance of important energy improvements, misleading recommendations, delayed certificate issuance, make it impossible to trust their services. I strongly advise others to exercise caution and consider alternative options for their energy performance certification needs. It's clear that something is amiss with this company, and I believe potential customers should proceed with extreme caution.

Bought a property last November 2022

Bought a property last November 2022, EPC stated an E rating. After we run house over winter with heating system gas boiler valiant supplied by gas bottles. Found to be very expensive to run over Xmas £190 per 2 bottles every 3 weeks. Had an instant where supplier couldn’t deliver, so had run the electric heaters in tandem to get through till they could deliver. Decided to change looked at my options and went for an Air Source Pump, with the gov grant. Had an EPC assessor around and flagged up my EPC was incorrect it should be a low F. Asked why they previous person had done it wrong mark the fuel as bulk gas which raised the EPC to the E. bulk gas is pretty much 50% cheaper. So when I found this out questioned the company who did the EPC Elmhurst Energy and there Assessor Mark. They at first admitted there mistake asked for details on my claim and decided to change their tune. Saying it was out of their control there wasn’t a marking for LPG and the assessor was with his right to put as bulk gas. I will see them court as they admitted liability in an email I’ll let the courts decide. We would not have bought the property if we would have known it was a Low F rating.absolutely useless. The manager looking after my case said he was going to pass to the insurers, but didn’t bother came back some fob off explaining what the did wrong was actually right and acceptable.

Incompetent Assessors/Accreditors

My EPC rating is so inaccurate it's laughable. Gone from a G to a B, with no work applied between reports to improve the buildings rating. The visit took 15mins, minimal injection of any areas; report written, submitted and visible on the gov site within 12hrs, yet it's taken them nearly three months to audit the result and they have no interest in quality, validity and integrity of the results or the assessors that they "train" and "qualify". It's purely a money making game to this company. Awful experience.

My EPC certificate is a work of pure…

My EPC certificate is a work of pure fiction, it does not reflect any form of reality to my House at all, The Estimated annual cost for 3 years is overstated on the EPC by 84%, (Their calculation against my actual costs)
The whole EPC thing is just a money making, Tick Box exercise, totally devoid of any reality, therefore totally meaningless
When I took this up with the assessor and my selling agent they said 'don't worry nobody reads them or takes any notice of them' ridiculous

Bad attitude

Phoned Elmhurst after our surveyor was unable to explain why our EPC rating provided by Elmhurst had gone down two grades in 7 years despite us renewing our central and water heating systems with the latest green technologies and modernising out home. Was greeted by general hostility on the phone, and they demanded to know which assessor had daref to give out their number to the general public - heaven forbid they actually have to defend or explain their rating system to the people that it actually impacts! No wonder our surveyor couldn’t explain their ratings system - it makes lo logical sense and seems to advocate for the endless burning of fossil fuels. Maybe this is a more general problem of how EPCs rate modern, clean technologies. But I felt that Elmhurst had a pretty bad attitude to the enquiry.

My tenant who is in arrears of £24k (Gratwick is his surname avoid at all costs) arranged for an EPC through an assessor certified by Elmhurst energy to avoid paying rent. The assessor downgraded the property to an F even though the property had a valid E certificate I supplied the evidence to the assessor and Elmhurst but as the assessor didn’t respond they suspended him but REFUSE to take down this invalid certificate. There final response was ‘get another one’
They are supposed to be an accreditation service but really aren’t bothered. Use an assessor that in not accredited by Elmhurst energy.
