Thanks for taking the time to write this, Trent.

Backup power is one of those things nobody thinks about until the evening the lights go out and then it's the only thing anyone talks about.

It's worth remembering the same battery is quietly earning its keep the other 364 days a year too, storing your solar generation through the day so you're pulling less from the grid in the evening peak.

This is honestly our favourite kind of review to read, Max.

The solar monitoring app tends to be the bit customers are least excited about at the quote stage and most obsessed with three weeks after commissioning. Once you can actually see generation, consumption, battery charge and grid import on one screen, electricity stops being an abstract number on a bill and becomes something you can steer. The dishwasher moves to the middle of the afternoon, someone notices the immersion heater has been on all morning, and self-consumption creeps up without anyone really trying.

Two things worth a look if you haven't already: check whether your export figures line up with what you're being paid under the Smart Export Guarantee, and have a play with the battery charge windows if you're on a time-of-use tariff. Small tweaks, decent savings.

Thank you, Jack, I've passed this straight on to the install team and they'll be pleased.

We're fairly firm about this internally: a solar PV and battery installation means people in your loft, on your roof and in your consumer unit for the best part of a day or two, and there's no excuse for leaving a mess or disappearing the moment the inverter's commissioned. Dust sheets down, scaffold cleared properly, and a proper handover before anyone drives off.

That handover matters more than people expect. Knowing where your isolators are, how to read the app, what the inverter is telling you and what's normal behaviour on a dull Lancashire morning saves a lot of unnecessary worry later on.

You've got our number if anything ever looks off we'd always rather you rang us about something minor than sat wondering.

Really appreciate you writing this, Leo, and thank you for the recommendation. Word of mouth is still how most of our work comes in across the North West.

A solar PV and battery install has a lot of moving parts behind the scenes: the roof survey and shading assessment, sizing the array and the storage to how your household actually uses electricity rather than to a generic figure, the DNO paperwork, scaffold, the install itself, then commissioning and your export arrangements. When it's done properly the customer shouldn't feel any of that, it should just feel organised. Sounds like it did, which is exactly the aim.
