Not sure what the bad reviews are all about - no one wants to pay import charges but the instructions are straight forward and I got my package within a couple of days. Also the sales team is super helpful if you have questions

Not a Scam - But Scummy Indeed

TLDR; It's not a scam, if you pay them they will release the package to Canada Post. But, if you have the option and it doesn't outweigh the time/effort you'd have to put in, I'd suggest self clearing your parcel. You need to email EZClear and request for a self clear document, and they'll text/email you a link. You pay less duties than they quote if you do it yourself. You fill out the papers and go to the CBSA office in person.

Full story:

So. Is this a scam? Is this not a scam? I too was being spammed with daily emails from "EZClear", claiming to have my package with duties owing. Pressure to pay, not releasing my package to Canada Post, phone number that doesn't work, lots of horrible reviews = FISHY. Que my deep dive!!!

So EZClear's email to me says they operate under 9965378 CANADA INC under William L Rutherford customs brokers. So first stop was the list of certified customs brokers on the CBSA website. William L Rutherford is indeed listed. BUT, their phone number doesn't work and their website returns 404. Fishy...

Canada Post also had my tracking number listed, so I called them. They said it was "fishy" because usually they can see an initial scan for a package, but in this case, they saw nothing. They were just as confused as I was and said that no one other than Canada Post should be collecting duty fees for packages delivered by them. They also said it's not normal to get an amount owing before the package is physically in Canada and has passed through customs. They recommended I call CBSA.

Next, I noticed "Citilogistics" has the tracking number. I called them, they're based out of Mississauga ((416) 251-5545) and they confirmed they "work with" EZclear to collect customs fees. The people on the phone were real and polite (even though I was grilling them) and explained that yes, this is a normal process, and to pay them. I explained a PayPal link is not normal for paying customs fees and I felt uncomfortable paying through their website, as it looks like it was built by my bff in their basement. My bff in their basement also has the ability to create a website with square and paypal... Then, the agent said they didn't even physically HAVE my package yet... FISHY. I recommend this be the first point of contact for others seeking info for their packages.

So I call CBSA (1-800-461-9999) and explain the sitch to them. They were able to confirm that the package wasn't in CBSA's possession/hadn't passed through customs. They basically said to call the RCMP if I thought it was fishy, but that they weren't really able to help. They also pointed to this website that EZClear also links to, which explains that third party couriers (aka EZClear), actually legally CAN act as a "customs broker" and charge basically whatever admin fees they want because Canada needed help with customs brokers. Note Canada Post also charges an admin fee of $9.95. The agent said it was weird it was a PayPal link so he also thought it was slightly fishy but could see how it was legal.

Next stop, RCMP fraud line, where I reported EZClear as "suspicious", but not for actual fraud. The very nice agent and I chatted for a while about it, and he said this was the strange part:
- FedEx cross border had the package. Then Citilogistics/EZClear grabs this package at some point (Citilogistics says they work with FedEx cross border). They then enter it into the Canada Post system as the shipper and send those emails demanding we pay before they'll release it. Bottom line, that's not normal/ok, and definitely not something I have experienced before when paying duties. I'll be clear because I'm sure EZClear will say "duties are normal", yes, yes, I know. That's not what the problem is.

Long story short, EZClear is a legit service in Canada, with super scammy/sketchy looking website emails, and a phone number that tells you to email them. They work with Citilogistics. The people at Citilogistics were nice and explained as best they could. It seems to me this company is acting as a third party broker with questionable collections tactics. They might charge higher duty fees (sometimes) than if you self clear.

I can confirm I did pay them through their PayPal link (the RCMP guy said it was my choice if I wanted to take the gamble or not, but that I probably wouldn't get my money back if it WAS a scam), and my package was released to Canada Post the next day and is currently on it's way to me. 0/10 don't recommend but if you love what you ordered, could be worth!

(I had website links to websites but had to remove them bc trustpilot doesn't allow them, sorry!)

Ordered a small part from Britain…

Ordered a small part from Britain shipped Nov 26 2024 Paid freight to FedEx for delivery to my door in Victoria BC. Parcel was handled over to Citilogistics.and I received a notice from EzClear on Dec 12 and the duty was paid on Dec 13. The Parcel was held by EzClear as they had no record of the payment. I sent them a copy of my receipt from PayPal stating I had paid and also the receipt that I received from EzClear that showed I had made payment. It took several more emails with a copy of my receipt as well as phone calls to finally get my item released on January 27th to Canada Post for delivery. Their communications organization are definitely a complete failure. I do not think this company is a scam they are just profoundly incompetent. User beware and make sure you keep all receipts and copies of communication. Also be adivised that FedEx
also does not follow instructions.

This is a scam

This is a scam, I received the email and contacted Canada post directly after reading these reviews. They told me that this is not part of Canada post and is fraud and even gave me the number for the Canada fraud department to report it. Don’t pay anything to them as they’re trying to access your information and credit cards

Fleecing/extortion scam.

So this company holds YOUR parcels and demands HUGE "brokerage" payments. Canada Post has a $5 flat brokerage, so don't believe their lies that they don't set the prices (UPS did the same, look up all the class action suits that have been won against them for this).
I refused the parcel, told them to return it to the UK. The company (who was pretending to be Canadian but was in the UK) told me to accept the parcel, pay the fee and then return the items...BUT you don't get the brokerage fees back, and you have to PAY to ship it back! Total scam.

New to this process

I have read many reviews on this company. I had never heard of them before. The staff for this company were quick to respond and were helpful. I did not feel they are "scammers". I did ask to self declare at the advice of other reviews here. It did take a few days to get the paper work I needed, but that is to be expected. It is a pain in the butt to have to find a CBSA office where you can pay the duty yourself. In Vancouver there is only one! I did save a few dollars by doing this however. Despite persistent emails that I needed to pay duty, I was surprised to find that my package had already been transferred on to Canada Post. Here I was a bit stressed that they would return my package to the UK. Overall it was smooth. They are an intermediary and I guess charge the fees to give you the convenience of not having to go to a CBSA office. And I will say they were helpful when I needed more information.

Great Scam, Thanks Guys

Holds your parcels hostage in exchange for exorbitant brokerage fees. Oh, sure, you can self-declare, but it will take 2-5 business days for them to get you the paperwork, and then you have to go to a CBSA office yourself and report back to them before they'll release your parcel...if they haven't returned it to the country of origin first. Customer service will then tell you that this is all your fault for making the purchase in the first place.

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️

SCAM ALERT: EZClear is a third party broker that ransoms online orders coming to Canada from the UK. Also operating under the title CitiLogistics, they take packages from international couriers like OSC and demand a payment double the cost of actual customs to release packages to Canada Post.

You can self clear your packages with the CSBA which seems to be the only way you can get them to release their stolen ‘consigned,’ items. In instances you don’t, they will eventually return to sender. International mail should not be in the hands of businesses that are not couriers!

I’d avoid ordering anything that uses OSC shipping from the UK, and will be careful not to order from places that partner with them in the future. My order was from The Ragged Priest, it seems like ASOS may use them and some Makeup Brands but I am unsure.

What a terrible experience I have had…

What a terrible experience I have had with this company. I placed an order at store in the UK and they so happened to use CitiLogistics as their shipper which for some really odd reason uses this third party broker, EZclear. I started getting harassed by email every day by this company asking for exorbitant duty fees. Weird thing is that I received a tracking number from Canada Post, where it said that my item was received by them and was on it's way. I even called Canada Post and they said not to pay any other company, that it was a scam, and that any duty fees will be paid upon delivery or at the local post office. So naturally I ignored EZclear's sketchy emails, and eventually asked them to stop bothering me. The "customer service" rep told me that in that case they will be returning my item. It seems like they were actually holding the item hostage and decided to return it to the UK as a means of revenge for not paying their fees. The CitiLogistics tracking showed that I "refused the delivery of the package", which is not true. I would have gladly paid any duties to Canada Post. Now the store (Military1st) will not return the shipping charges. I guess it's a lose-lose for everyone involved except the shipper. Never again will I order from a company using CitiLogistics or EZclear. Seems like they work together to extort their customers.

You do not have to pay this company. You can self clear your own package and save yourself from paying their exuberant fees. If they have your package, call them and ask them for the self clear paperwork. You go to the CBSA office and pay the fees directly to them. Do not pay EZclear.

Resposta de EzClear

The last time we had an order for you was in 2017. Odd that you are posting a review now.
But to comment on your feedback people can definitely go direct to CBSA to pay but not everyone lives close to CBSA and not everyone has the time to attend CBSA.

Lying - they don't actually have the package

I ordered something from the UK and when it arrived in Canada I started getting emails from EzClear that I owed money before they would deliver. I simultaneously started getting emails from Canada Post with my tracking number, which is the same "parcel code" that EzClear is using. I checked with Canada Post and THEY have my package, it's in transit, and they've confirmed I don't owe anything. EzClear is literally lying saying they are holding my package until I pay them - for nothing. Scammy garbage. Check your tracking number with your local post!

Scam

Bought some make-up products from Sample Beauty (& Beauty Bay). I received several email from EzClear from the 31st May that asks me for a fee of $16, but the total of my products is only $30. The email has all my personal info SB have confirmed in their email that EzClear is indeed the agent of their courrier, and they asked me to pay the fees.

However, I have called Post Canada 2 times, EzClear has nothing to do with them. They haven't heard of it, there is absolutely no handling/admin/custom fee, none. The item is already with Post Canada and cannot be handled by another individual or company. Post Canada said my package will soon arrive in the following days.

THEY ARE SCAMMERS. DO NOT believe SB or EzClear.

Mr D Turpin would have been proud of this company

This company is operating outside of business guidelines for Canada. Customers are being given false information regarding delivery status of parcels. Parcels that are supposedly being delivered by Canada Post. The company demands various fees with and I note, written fear closing methods to make you pay up quickly. My purchase a package shipped to Canada, Cost me, $100 CN this included shipping and handling fees. EzClear, found it necessary to charge me a further 47% of the cost of the item in various fees and taxes, before the item will be delivered. What nonsense is this? I contacted Canada Post fraud department whom I may add stated "There is nothing owing on this package" and the package is in transit to the delivery depot at your location. My advice to EZClear, Start thinking investigation on the horizon. My advice to the public. Don't pay these illegal fees and if necessary have them send the parcel back and inform your credit card company that, the package was never delivered.

This the response most people get:::::::::::

Thank you for your response so you admit you did charge me the outrageous amount to retrieve my package. Having spoke with the CBSA later I was informed no duty should be charged on this package. You are more than welcome to reimburse me the charges.
