Fails to honour agreements; avoid
I bought a subscription for Ideal Home for my daughter in July 2025 at an offer price of 12 issues for £10. I now find I have been debited 2 x £18.50 = £37.00 for this subscription over the last year. Future Publishing have refunded me £8.50 as a pathetic offer of 'goodwill'. This company could show some goodwill by honouring contracts it has entered into, refunding me £27, and not fobbing me off with standard emails written by representatives with no understanding of contracts and no authority to correct an error, or by bots.
Judging by the other reviews on Trustpilot, this company is a model of enshittification in action.
Update 24 April 2026: after further emails and complaints Future Publishing has finally refunded me the money I should never have paid in the first place. I will not be renewing the subscription.
took £57 illegally from my account
cannot get through to them on the phone. email says reply will be within 2 days however no reply. I paid £14.99 for a bookazine, a day later £57 was taken with my details no reason, no explanation. Trying to get this money back and its impossible. I will never buy from this company again
Poor listening
Called customer service for a couple of different issues, they did sort out what I needed but took them a while to understand the problems, despite me explaining clearly several times, and they didn't apologise. Felt like they didn't really listen well.
6 magazines sent to my long dead brother.
My brother died 10 years ago. In a period of about 5 weeks they sent 4 magazines to him. They have now sent a further two magazines. WHY can't they block his name and address? Don't they have a computer??
Huge fluctuation in subscription prices
I paid $16.99 for a 1 yr subscription on 11/9/25. This past week I received another notice for the same magazine at $99.00 for one year from Future plc. And they noted that this was 58% of the full subscription price. This company is only trying to rip people off.
Dreadful,Unreliable Company
I subscribe to Country Life magazine and for the THIRD time this year failed to receive my weekly copy. They said it was a ‘glitch’ in the system. Emailed twice & was told they would send a copy but never received it as -apparently no mags left! Offered to ‘extend my subscription’ by one copy but this could only be possible if I cancelled it! So I have no magazine, no refund and the very real possibility it could all recur a fourth time!

Offered 6 free issues. Provides excellent summary of what's happening in global financial markets but far to expensive. Shame
Avoid Future Publishing - not to be trusted
Took trial subscription and cancelled within trial period. Despite assurance from customer services Future Publishing took unauthorised payment from my bank account by direct debit after the cancellation date. They ignore e-mails and contacting them by telephone is a nightmare. This company represent so many well know and supposedly reputable magazine titles but they are not to be trusted. My advice: do not subscribe to any of this companies titles, do not provide bank details, avoid so called “trial period” subscriptions as they are a scam.
Competitions not random winners
I had 4 wins in the first year of doing their competitions, not big wins but wins never the less. I then made a negative comment about their advertising a year ago and won nothing since, I don’t think that’s a coincidence and won’t be doing any more.

Terrorism propaganda
Unavailable when your country actually helping to fight dictator and terrorist putin, you are publishing magazine about "grate russian history". History about country who likes to rape, torture and kill little kids. Who coming to another country and takes peoples homes and lives. I can see that corruption and big russian money can close eyes on all of that even here, in the UK. Shame on you!
Magazine subscription
Had a subscription to a magazine that is no longer published. Promised a refund on my outstanding balance. After numerous phone calls was Promised a cheque would be sent to me for the outstanding balance. Two months later still no refund. I would give this company zero stars for its customer service

Never got my magazines .. and then when i cancelled my 6 month direct debit I still had 6 issues to go but they never sent them .. avoid this company!!

Zero stars. I have now written 3 emails for a refund. The company has taken 2 duplicate amounts from my account without my authority. I have asked for the subscription to be stopped. No reply so far.
Don't bother complaining - just cancel
I was loving reading Womens Weekly. However, I was sent an email saying there was an issue with my payment. It was a thinly veiled attempt to get me to pay for the information (which could have been provided by email) that the price had gone up - closely followed by marketing - WHICH I WAS PAYING FOR ON MY PHONE BILL. I complained and got a stock AI produced reply which only addressed one of my issues. I complained again and got a similar AI produced reply following the same protocols, only addressing (the same) one issue again. I tried to complain on the complaints section of Direct Magazines website and unsurprisingly, I got YET ANOTHER AI produced email only addressing the same one issue. 3 replies, slightly worded differently but essentially exactly the same, with a different name of a sender each time. Thinly veiled AI rubbish!!!!
UK Country Life - Zero stars
Zero stars would be more appropriate. Country Life is a great magazine, and I have subscribed for years. However, it now arrives 4-6 weeks late in the US. This year they renewed my subscription 2 months early and doubled the price without any notice. When I requested that they cancel it, they sent me an email in response saying they were going to bill me automatically in 3 weeks. Their telephone help phone number is a recording that does not connect you to the selected billing or subscription department.
