I bought a car here last year for myself. I received great service from David. Every query I had he answered. The car has been great and still is.
So I returned here last month to buy my daughter a car.
It’s seems it’s under new management from the previous posts I’ve read.
I turned up at the weekend to view a car and they were CLOSED!!!! Auto trader said open?
I sent some emails about the car I was interested in, very slow replies! I finally managed to look at the car and the guy there knew absolutely nothing about cars! I asked if the cam belt would be changed as it was over due. I was told it wouldn’t be. Avoid this garage it used to be legit now it is ran by cowboys! Cars are unsafe, check with the dealer when the Cambelt should be changed. I did not buy a second car here!!!!!

I was due to pick up a car after…

I was due to pick up a car after putting a 200 pound retainer fee on the car. Unfortunately I ended up in hospital where my life almost ende. After coming out of the high dependency unit i called the garage to get my retainer back, all he did was moan about losing money snd told me to claim it back from the finance company. Shouting at me on the phone, aye very professional. Clear to say it was a big con. Trading standards are going to be informed about his scamming technique. If you've any sense, stay clear from this garage.

Thank you for the review David. The owners have recently removed all of the staff that were attempting to run GD Car Sales, after they made considerable losses for the company. Unfortunately with the review you have left, we can understand why! The owners are unaware of any deposit not being returned and have honoured all issues they have come across since taking the business back under their management. Unfortunately the owners were left with a considerable mess and are now contacting all previous customers who have had a poor experience. We hope that future reviews and service provided will meet the high standards expected by the company owners and we can recoup the losses from taking a chance on people we thought were good people. if you can provide further details, we would be more than happy to return any deposit once we confirm it. We also hope you have made a full recovery. Thank you and our apologies for your poor experience.

Buy from somewhere else

My husband and I bought a car for our daughter from these people. We told David that our daughter was going through cancer treatment and had an 18 month-old child. We said their safety was paramount. The car turned out to have mechanical issues that were not covered by the warranty. We paid a further £1500 to rectify these at a reputable garage of our choice, but gave up trying to get any response from David the car salesman. He never answered his phone. My husband was 80 and a trusting and kind person. I believe he was taken advantage of by this person. In addition, we paid £250 in car tax by card to the DVLA when in GD Car Sales’ office but the DVLA had no record of the payment, nor did my daughter receive the V5 for her car. We had to pay the car tax again and buy a new V5.
This has been a very, very stressful period for all of us.
My husband died two months ago. Eventually, I will feel able to go through a proper complaints process with the authorities. In the meantime, I would advise anyone not to purchase from these people.

We had a multitude of issues that took months to sort out, and we came to an agreement that I wouldn't leave a bad review as they eventually sorted it... Meaning we bought the car as described, atleast that's what I thought.

I then proceeded to get the cambelt and water pump done so we had a solid car for 10 years...

As I drive along I started playing music and there's a ridiculous rattle coming from the passenger side door, only to find all of the door clips were broken...

But that's not all, I then noticed the window was a different brand, and there was smashed glass inside of the door.

The electric window mechanism was completely buckled and now doesn't work.

So I looked at all the other windows, low and behold the boot window has also been smashed and there's a rattle when closing.... So also full of broken glass.

And then the alternator went, I can only imagine they got that bodged through some kind of half assed refurb.

When I got the alternator fixed, I noticed the cambelt cover wasn't on properly and was rubbing the auxiliary belt...

To put the cover on properly, I needed to remove the engine mount and refit the cover properly, which is when I discovered THE CAMBELT WAS NOT TENSIONED!

Which is what led me to having this done immediately, as that meant the car was a ticking time bomb. I have no idea how the belt didn't come off and destroy the engine before I seen this.

If you think there's something wrong with a car you've bought from this dealer, it's most likely 10x worse than you can ever imagine.

The only people buying cars here should be mechanics and proceed with every single precaution possible.

If not, do not buy from these people, they are absolute crooks.

You can't go less than 1 Star unfortunately, so I guess they can have the 1 star for being very good at polishing turds.

STAY AWAY.

STAY AWAY.. These guys, David cannot wait to get the car sold to you and after that, nothing, no help, no replies, just ignoring you. I have spend around a £1000 on the mats, the luggage cover, engine mount, a busted injector and they have just ignored all my mails and calls. Plus the car had dents, cracked interior and leather and a rood full of stone chips they covered up which after 2 washes came out, they didn't mention any of that in the original listing. So, DO NOT buy a car from these guys, they are what gives used car dealers a bad name... Stay well clear from them.

Awful experience! Avoid at all costs!

Awful experience. My partner purchased her car from these crooks and had nothing but troubles with both the car and the company. She drives our children to school and often has my 2 year old with her, yet from the moment she drove it off the forecourt, less than an hour down the road she was having issues. Garage were extremely unhelpful and took months to get it sorted. Further more her part exchange car hadn't been scrapped and so she was paying tax on it for several months. This caused us all unnecessary stress which took a letter to our MP, and trading standards to resolve. We took it for its MOT today and surprisingly it passed, but with obvious advisories. Welding required, parking brake lacking performance, among other issues. Basically the car is not entirely safe and these people sold it to my partner, knowing full well she would be driving our children in it. Shameful company, and I warn anyone using them to seriously consider your options! We thankfully purchased a new car now, a far safer car.

It's taken me a few months to bring…

It's taken me a few months to bring myself to write this review. Just purely as the first four months of 2025 was spent trying to get to some agreement on fixing a car that broke 5 miles after picking it up!

The one star is for the patience and help of Joe who took over my constant emails to try and get things sorted having been fobbed off by the owner (who was the salesperson that I bought the car off).

I originally saw an advert for a low mileage Suzuki from GD Car Sales on the Auto Trader app (which was advertised with 12 months MOT and two keys; neither of which these had. They tell me that they told me that the car had 9 months MOT on collecting, but I don't recollect it as I had a poorly child that I needed to get home quickly on the day that I collected). I rang them and arranged a viewing the next day (they were absolutely fantastic, super helpful and said to take the car out for as long as I wanted). The car was exactly what I wanted, so we paid a deposit. We weren't able to take it immediately as they needed to do work on the Callipers.

I bought a Suzuki SX4 from GD Car Sales on Friday 20th December 2024. Within 5 miles of collection the ABS light went off (I did think that the breaking felt strange prior to the light coming on, but put this down to the change of callipers and getting used to driving a different car. GD Car Sales had told me that prior to me collecting that someone would take it out and make sure that it was running smoothly). As soon as I returned home I rang them to tell them what had happened - no answer so I left a message. I did the same again on Saturday and the Monday and then started emailing when I hadn't heard anything back from them (this is the point where the penny dropped! GD Car Sales do not answer calls; they let the answer machine get it and then return the call if it is to their advantage! When I booked the test drive I left a message and they rang back immediately! This wouldn't have been suspicious, as they couldn've been busy, but having rung them as many times as I have and from different mobiles and different times of the day it is clear to say that they're avoiding answering the phone).

I started emailing them just before the New Year to ask if they had put the car that I had traded in with them under themselves as I didn't want to be charged for two lots of Tax, they assured me that it had been dealt with (it wasn't for almost three months!) I also asked a couple of times why I hadn't received the V5C for the Suzuki and they said that they had done it as soon as I had bought it and apparently it was DVLA that was at fault (which is funny as two days later it arrives and in their haste they used my shortened name and not my full name which can affect a claim had I needed to use my insurance)!

Throughout the many months of to"ing" and fro"ing" they finally paid for the car to be fixed, they also returned the extra tax that I paid for the car that I had traded in with them. It was a long haul and I was in touch with trading standards and the turning point was sending them the template that Trading Standards provided.

The car has:
An internal light issue.
A loose bumper.
A slow working electric window.
Only one key.
The ongoing ABS issue. The first four of these issues are me being picky having spent many a stressful day emailing them and nagging for things like sorting out my old car so that I was no longer paying double tax every month. They did pay for all of these things to be fixed, but it was a long haul. I still only have one key, which is fine (as long as I don't lose it)!

Would I recommend them? No!
Would I buy a car from them again? No! Was it worth the hassle? No!

My Dad had to lend me the money to buy this car, as I desperately needed a new car and what should've been an exciting experience was the most stressful one! The only positive thing was the test driving of the car. But I will give Joe a shout out for taking on the task of taking on the emails and getting the result that was needed (even if it did take months to get there)!

I was pleasantly surprised as this was a distantance sale. The car is everything he said it was and more. The delivery guys were polite and helpful.

Reassuring, local used car dealer

Having had an awful experience previously when buying a car further afield, we were keen to look locally. Dave at GD was great on the phone - with upfront, honest answers to my questions so we didn't waste his time by looking at a car that wouldn't be suitable. Turned up 5 minutes before closing time (my error, not theirs!), but was still encouraged to take the car for a decent length test drive with no pressure. Got back and decided we wanted it and agreed to collect the following week. My lift for the day of collection unfortunately let me down, but Joe from GD kindly collected me from Topsham railway station and I was soon on my way with a very honest, well-maintained car with a stack of history. Thank you!
