I would not recommend this company.

Although in Hampton Lovetts response, stating they couldn't find my information, I have since received a a letter demanding I remove this review or legal action will be taken.

I would advise not using this company. We paid almost £2000 to make our claim against our business rates2017-2022. They pressure and chase to get this money and promise the world and when their "surveyor" visits he tells you about the stacks of cash you will be owed and how quick the process is.
After they had their money it was almost impossible to get any updates. Constant chasing to be told it had been moved to another stage which will take X months. 18 months later to be told we weren't successful but decision would be appealed. More chasing to be told it wouldn't be appealed as "from what I can see I don’t believe there will be any grounds for them to change their mind". So what was the point in the first place? AVOID AVOID AVOID

Totally Agree - It is a scam

I would agree with all of the comments about this company running a scam. If I could give a 0 star I would. They send 'surveyors' out and get forms signed which are mis-sold as just needed to get further information. Then the bills start coming in for nothing and definitely no sign of any rate rebate. Our rates have actually just increased yet they tell me they are still working on it.

BEWARE !! DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT

BEWARE ! Do not sign a contract with this company.
I've paid thousands of pounds for a rate rebate that has not materialised and now they are pusuing me for thousands more for the next one, while referring to text hidden in the contract somewhere. NOT TO BE TRUSTED!

Don't ignore the number of 1 star reviews!

Avoid like the plague! Time wasters.
Still heard nothing back from a claim they were processing years ago and are now trying to invoice again for a new rateable period.
Don't ignore the number of 1 star reviews. The 5 star reviews are almost certainly fake.

Unprofessional and economic with truth about process

Since my review I have been contacted and I am happy to say that progress has been made.

I am looking forward to being able to remove this negative review, as I believe those who have contacted me are genuine.

You have one last chance!
I signed up in 2021 and I am now giving you one last chance to process my appeal, before I take matters further. I have been given so many different versions of "yes but no but", and I am now extremely frustrated. You will have just received my email and it will be up to you how you want to proceed. I don't tend to give negative posts, but you have pushed me to this with avoidance and a lack of clear information as to what happens in the process, at what pace, and most importantly in what order.

You also have such a high turnover of staff that it is hard to keep up with who is doing what!

Please act now!!!

Good communications

All staff at Hampton Lovett were professional and friendly at all times. They were easy to contact and listened to our concerns. We are pleased that the company managed to reduce our future business rates and made us a saving on our costs going forward.

We paid upfront payment of £1750.68 in Jul '20 for reduction in business rates. No result from Hampton Lovett. They now offered to fast track the appeal for a further payment. Scam. We have lost our money

Spammers and ill-informed.

Fear mongering spammers who ignore GDPR and use unsolicited mailing lists to try to generate leads while ignoring the fact that many of the contacts they're trying to scare are on full rate relief.

They've managed to harvest multiple undocumented email addresses that have never been used for anything external, much less subscribed to mailing lists.

Avoid!

EDIT: To add insult to injury, instead of checking their email database this company then requests details of the relevant "order" with a view to removing the review.

So let's be clear here folks. We received multiple emails from this company on multiple prefixes, many of which aren't actually used externally. QED, the only explanation for the spam is that they purchased mailing lists that were harvested and not based on acceptable practice. Most of the emails are NEVER used for external email communication, much less subscribed to any mailing list.

There are numerous reports of the same issue from other reviews on here and elsewhere so the attempt to get reviews removed is a little disingenuous to say the least.

Took a while, but Hampton Lovett got us a total refund of our rates backdated to 2017. Very happy. Thank you.

I was contacted by Hampton last May and sent copies of rates bills. Our bar is 50 sq meters and rates are £950 per month. They said they could reduce our 2017 rate bill by up to £13,000. So I met their surveyor at the bar in June. I discussed their contract document which said they would review our rates for 2017 AND 2023 for a one off fee of £1745 plus 25 0/0 of any saving. Their document was headed RICS the surveyor indicated to me they were RICS members. My son is a RICS surveyor so I felt confident. I paid the fee. Months later in January 2023 another surveyor finally came to measure up and to put our claim in.
Shortly after I got another bill for £1745 for survives for the 2023 review.
I have had numerous email and telephone calls since.
Their document says 2017 and 2023 yet they are demanding payment for the 2023 review before they even know the 2017 review. The government in any case had reduced the rates for which they claim the fee. They have on numerous occasions threatened me with legal action. See you in court. They still have not come up with any reduction at all for which I paid the £1745 fee and dispute my requesting copies of their documents which they sent to the rates office they havnt sent me anything.
We she’ll see what happens over the next couple of weeks as I received a telephone call in Andorra to say they were going to issue court proceedings.

Do not believe their misrepresentation…

Do not believe their misrepresentation of "no win no fee" which was what was sold to us. Once their terms of engagement form is signed they will bill you an upfront fee of £3540 (plus VAT) to cover their expenses, the writing of this is ambiguous in the contract and does not match the oral statements made by their employees that come out to site. We did not wish to go ahead with this arrangement and were offered a 50% cancellation fee of £1770 (plus VAT) which we ended up paying after not wishing to pursue costly legal action as they made it quite clear they were happy to go down that route.
Do not trust this company; should you wish to reduce your rateable value, either apply for this on your own or be aware that an upfront fee will be required.

Feel we have been conned

This company got us to sign forms should we want to go ahead and didn't tell us there would be a cancellation fee or didn't leave the forms with us in advance so we could read the small print. In the end we didn't want to go ahead and they are now threatening to sue us for half the fee - some £900. Really bad customer service and a rip off. Be careful when dealing with them

Do not go near them

As a pub we were contacted by HL in 2022 with an offer to reduce our business rates which were at £39,000. After some time a surveyor came out and said we had a very good case. We had to pay over £1,000 in fees to to start then any reduction in rates they achieved we would be charged a percentage. They came back a few months later and they had achieved a reduction £9,000 and enclosed their bill for over £3,000. We then awaited the council refund of
£9,000 over 5 years and we got one penny back. What Hampton Lovett fail to tell you is that the refund will be affected by transitional and business rates relief. We thought our time with them was up but apparently not. We had signed a form which allowed them to fast track our case for the next appeal 2023 - 2028. They invoiced us £2,500. We argued that they had done nothing as yet for this moneyed we wanted to sever ties with them. We then got a cancellation invoice for £1,500which we eventually paid. Today we got another invoice for £3,500 for achieving a rate reduction for 2023 to £18,500. This was nothing they had done as the government had reduced hospitality business rates at the end of last year and we had already been notified of the change in December. When I asked how they could charge for something they had not done any work for we were told that HL can charge for any reduction however it came about. We won't be paying it and would advise other businesses to avoid them at all costs. As we have now discovered you can put in a claim to the Valuation Office yourself and certainly don't need these rip off merchants acting for you.

Thanks for taking the time to raise your concerns, unfortunately there is not enough information here to be able to assist in resolving your concerns.

It should be noted that transitional relief is applied by the Billing Authority, and Business Rates Relief is also applied by them. We are an Agent of the Valuation Office Agency, who are not involved in the application of reliefs to a Rates Bill.

With such limited knowledge of the precise situation, you are in it is difficult to be precise, but there are a couple of points here that are important.

Firstly, I would imagine that the Business Rates Relief you refer to is the 50% relief applied to retail, hospitality and leisure from 2020 until 2023… and obviously you can only claim back what has been paid to the Local Authority.

Secondly, Transitional Relief is tapered (meaning the amount of relief applied is dependent on the size of the reduction achieved). My understanding, based on what you're saying, is that the entire reduction in rateable value was consumed by Transitional Relief… and this should not be the case. If it is, I would encourage you to contact your Local Authority how they have calculated this.

There are very limited circumstances in which this can happen to a ratepayer unless they are behind on their rates, have received a substantial amount of relief on their bill or there has been an error in calculation with the Local Authority.

Its should also be noted that due to the recent decision of transitional relief being ‘punitive’ when applied to reduced rateable values, that it is being stopped in the 2023 rating period. It will still apply to increased valuations, to alleviate any financial pressures applied because of an increase in rates liability.

Hampton Lovett are interested in one…

Hampton Lovett are interested in one think and that's getting paid. Their first attempt at a rate decrease was way off what was promised, even though they agreed to a refund if they failed in the contract, they then said I couldn't have a refund till the end of the rate period and have recently sent a bill for a drop in rates which they had nothing to do with even though they haven't settled the refund due. The whole process has caused me endless stress and wasted far more time than the savings. I have asked them to stop communicating and immediately get e-mails back. I am already pulling my hair out and wish I had never heard the name Hampton-Lovett

Great Service - I will Recommend

I run an accountancy practice and come across this type of of business a lot, however there are a lot of sharks out there that sign you up for large commissions etc and tie you in for a long time. I looked into this company and decided to give it a go, although still a little unsure if it would be a straight forward as it looked. To my delight everything was spot on fees invoiced as agreed and very reasonable with no long tie ins. I would happily recommend this company and I will be doing so to my clients - something which I do not do lightly a 1st Class professional company.

Our small charity Threatened and harassed

Our small charity was contacted by Hampton and came for a visit. We then explained that our lease and occupation prohibited our charity from being able to reclaim any business rates, etc. Since then, we have been harassed, threatened with legal action for an eye watering amount of money!!! Let me be clear, our charity survives on volunteers and member fees, covering the cost of their services, and nothing else. I'm not sure if people realize that charity status does not mean grants cover everything, so let me be clear: any grants cover the cost of the project/program. We are not here making a profit, or surplus - we just survive, and use our FREE time to keep our charity going for our members' benefit.

This is an indication that a company has paid attention to our situation, heard it, and made it a priority to communicate and talk about it.
