A brilliant introduction to hedge laying over two days, with Paul (very patiently) taking you through the process from making your own stakes and binders, through to laying the hedge and then finishing it neatly. His expertise puts the group at ease and we all ended up with a good looking stretch of hedge. You get to use froes, axes, billhooks and beadles plus other more usual tools. It's physical work but very rewarding and there's the bonus of a very tasty lunch courtesy of Lorraine. I highly recommend this course.

Huge thanks to Paul for a fantastic weekend and for teaching us so much about wood, coppicing and the main event of the weekend which was to make our own wattle hurdle. This was definitely a challenge and our small group worked with enormous determination under Paul's guidance to begin to master the skills. We were all really delighted and very proud of the end results. Looking forward to going back in the Autumn for another course.

Great weekend spent with Paul and Lorraine (our hosts), learning a new skill of hedge laying in the March sunshine. Can’t wait to grow my hedges and put it all in to practice, which gives me time to look for the old tools to do it. EBay here I come…
