How the Deception Works
The site uses a classic "dark pattern" (deceptive design) to trick users into this billing loop:
• The Bait: The site advertises a low, upfront cost of $1.95 to process a passport or ID photo.
• The Switch: They frame this $1.95 payment as "7 days of full access".
• The Hidden Subscription: In small, easily overlooked text below the payment button, it notes that after the 7 days expire, the subscription automatically renews at $49.95/month until canceled.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with IMAGOKIT and would strongly advise customers to check their payment details carefully before using this service.

I used the website solely to create a passport-sized photograph for my British passport application. I made what I understood to be a one-off payment of £1.95 and received an email confirming that the payment was successful.

At no point did I knowingly agree to a monthly subscription, and I did not receive any email informing me that I had signed up for a free trial or recurring membership. To my shock, IMAGOKIT subsequently charged me £49.95 on 23 August and another £49.95 on 23 September, resulting in unexpected charges totalling £99.90.

This is unacceptable. Customers should be able to understand exactly what they are paying for and should not have to discover unexpected recurring charges by checking their bank statements. If a subscription or free trial is involved, the terms and recurring costs should be made clear before payment, with proper confirmation provided to the customer.

I am requesting a full refund of the £99.90 and a clear explanation of how these charges were authorised. I will not recommend this service unless these concerns are addressed appropriately.

Please be cautious and check your bank statements carefully if you have used IMAGOKIT.

The company markets its service as a one-time photo-editing purchase but conceals a costly recurring monthly subscription during checkout. Worse, the premium subscription option is automatically checked by default, meaning customers can unknowingly sign up for a recurring subscription simply by proceeding with their purchase. Customers are then expected to cancel within the first seven days to avoid further charges, or risk being billed monthly for continued access to premium services they may never have intended to subscribe to.

When I contacted the company to appeal for a refund, I was told that because I had access to its premium services, the company had provided them “UNINTERRUPTED.”

This business practice is misleading and unethical. Customers who believe they are making a one-time purchase should not have to scrutinise a pre-selected subscription option to avoid being enrolled in an unwanted recurring payment plan. Automatically opting customers into a paid subscription shifts the burden onto them to discover and cancel a service they may never have knowingly agreed to.

What makes the situation even more frustrating is the company’s apparent refusal to acknowledge the lack of transparency in its checkout process. Instead, it places the entire responsibility on customers for failing to cancel within a short seven-day window, using uninterrupted access to its premium services as justification for refusing a refund.

Providing uninterrupted access to a service is not the same as obtaining a customer’s informed consent to a recurring subscription. A fair and ethical business should clearly disclose recurring charges, require customers to actively opt in to paid subscriptions, and handle refund requests with consideration for customers who did not knowingly intend to sign up for ongoing payments.

A business model that relies on pre-selected subscriptions, insufficiently transparent pricing, and narrow cancellation windows to generate recurring revenue deserves serious scrutiny. Customers should be able to make informed purchasing decisions without being unknowingly enrolled in ongoing charges, and companies should take responsibility for ensuring that their checkout processes are transparent and fair.

This company is a scam. I paid for one photo and then they were illegally taken 49.95 euro from my account monthly. I did not subscribe but when you sign up for image - they illegally take money from you.. be so careful. Don't use this service!

It’s a scam to collect your card information and deduct a subscription cost from it

After making a small purchase for a passport photo a month ago, I have somehow been automatically subscribed to a subscription. $69.96 later. Not happy. I have emailed them asking for a refund. No response yet

As others have said, MASSIVE SCAM. They charge a small amount for a photo (yet to see if this is accepted) then take nearly £50 from your account without permission. Avoid at all costs. You cannot contact them as you just get automated AI email responses.

They seems and tried to be cheaper than other, but take my advice don't go with them, they're are not only cheap on their prices THEY ARE ALSO CHEAP ON CHARACTER, they try to steal your amount later.
DON'T TRY THEM.

Also got caught with the hidden subscription fee of €49.99 and photo not expected. Scam be aware.

Terrible, bought a photo for a visa application for 1.99 was then charged w further 49.99 through a hidden subscription. To top it off the photo was refused as it had been artificially altered.

Warning to others regarding Imagokit! They automatically charged my card without any notice. When I looked into it, I found their cancellation process to be unclear and difficult. It feels like a deceptive practice. If you are using this service, check your bank statements and consider removing your payment information immediately to avoid unauthorized charges.

Do not use. Paid for photo which was subsequently rejected by Welfare.ie. Then had 50 euro taken from my credit card. I cancelled the "fake subscription" I never took out and received a cancellation email . I have emailed them to demand a Full Refund – Exercise of EU Withdrawal Right [a 14 day cooling off]. I don't expect the refund but have create this paper trail so I can get a chargeback from my bank on the credit card if the refund doesn't arrive

Zero stars!! THIS IS A SCAM SERVICE TO GET YOUR CARD DETAILS. DO NOT USE IT. Like other reviewers here, I also paid €4.95 for a passport photo (which I received). At no point did I sign up to any subscription service. However 1 week later the amount of €49.95 was taken from my bank account by Imagokit.

UPDATE on 25-09-2026: I sent a strong email to Imagokit detailing my dissatisfaction with how they took additional money from my account using my card details and they responded very quickly saying that a refund to me of €49.95 had been processed. I have now received that refund. The amount should never have been taken in the first place but at least they had the decency to refund it.

Do not use. Absolute scam. Was quoted £1.95 for uk passport photo and a week later they took £49.95 out of my bank account.
