Best community software on the market
My experience with Invision Community goes way back to circa 2004-2005 (I was still in high school) where I first dug my hands into forums and forum software in the good old Invisionfree days. Through the years I have created many communities, some successful and many others were anything but. Little did I know these experiences would only get me more and more hooked into this virtual world!
Forums are communities of like-minded people sharing their knowledge, experiences, hobbies and most of all, coming together in a common place to just be themselves. I have experienced nearly every forum software out there, though I always made my way back to the Invision Community suite of products as I not only found it to be a very powerful and dynamic bit of kit, but it always provided the solutions I wanted and needed for my communities.
If you have read some of the negative reviews regarding the team, take it with a grain of salt (I sure do!). The team strive for perfection and are not only extremely knowledgeable, but the way they connect and communicate with their community and clients are second to none. Every word of feedback and suggestions are read and taken seriously, they don't belittle anyone including those with negative approaches and you can read for yourself how they communicate with existing clients versus new members. They are respectful and know how to work together to produce something that is simply leading the market and this industry.
Thank you, Invision Community. Not only for having the best community software, but for giving your clients and potential clients the very best in customer service. Each of you (and I really mean it) make up a great team and deserve all the praise. Forums, forum software, communities, however you word it, just wouldn't be the way they are without you.
Good choice for big forum
I manage a large French forum, and when we had to transition from our previous platform, we chose Invision Community after evaluating several options.
Initially, we had concerns about the migration process, but it went smoothly compared to one of our competitor I have in mind who lost all their images when switching to other platforms and had messages attributed to the wrong users.
For the migration we had a lot of testing and back and forth exchange to make it work, but the team was there and adressed everything.
We also had worries about the time zone differences, but the team is responsive and quickly addresses major bugs. While it may take longer to implement custom developments that align with our specific needs, over the years, we've built trust and seen our requirements being considered in future updates.
The tool is evolving positively, and although it lacks some advanced statistical features, it's possible to configure Excel and Analytics to meet our needs (I'd like more nevertheless :D )
Our forum is very large, and we needed a partner capable of supporting our high traffic, which narrowed down our choices. Invision Community has proven to be reliable.
From a functional standpoint, users may have been unhappy (and some still are) because not everything is possible or is done differently from their old habits, but the core functionalities are there, and new browsing habits are being taken into account over time (mobile transition, gamification needs, etc.).
Greedy and untrustworthy company
Greedy and untrustworthy company.
I've been using invisionpower for several years and what a disappointment it has been. The software itself is full of bugs. They barely patch 10% of the bugs when new ones pop up like mushrooms on a sunny day.
When you ask for support you get the standard reply. It's not our fault go and talk to your host when clearly the issues are caused by the many bugs. And when you pint this out you are placed promptly in post moderation.
I would never recommend invision to my worst enemy. Avoid them, they want your money and nothing else!

Version 5 update
Handled terribly, no input from users, removed beloved functions for double the price. Will not renew license.

Invision Community 5 has been a massive…
Invision Community 5 has been a massive improvement, I wish however, as a self hoster I could be able to get access or purchase the live features etc.
Don't waste your money on Invision Community
The software is riddled with bugs. Technologically backward, modern features are implemented years(!) after they are already available in other software. Feedback from paying users is largely ignored, and price hikes are relentless.
And to make matters worse, they're trying to force self-hosted clients onto their even pricier cloud service.
If they're so intent on becoming a cloud-only company, they should consider open-sourcing their code for those who need a self-hosted option, as many reputable cloud SaaS companies do. Instead, Invision Power Services is damaging its reputation and complicating the use of its software by limiting the functionality of the self-hosted package and unjustifiably raising its price.
Save yourself the headache and the money – consider open-source alternatives.
They fancy themselves as the Apple of forum software, but unfortunately, they only embody the worst aspects of that comparison. Their closed-off nature, disdain for users, and constant reduction of features are huge obstacles to the sustainable growth of the community.
No future for custom skins and hacks...
If your platform rely on great and diverse support from 3rd party developers and moders for making Skins, Hacks and such.. it is sad to say that Invision is not have a future. up until last year, they had great support from 3rd party developers and you could find really eye-catching skins and plugins in a dedicated marketplace. since decided their 3rd party marketplace discontinue, most of 3rd party developers support are gone.
So vanilla design and features for future and Invision 5 version is all you are going to get really. very few designers left to support this platform. almost all third party developers who used to be dedicated for this platform stop supporting it now.
When I reached out to some developers to ask if they re-create those skins and plugins they developed for version 4 into version 5, very few of them were positive and already moved on. for me specially skins and themes, since my forum is highly depended on a custom built skin and since it is not going to be available on version 5, I'm highly considering to move on to other platforms lately. I'm with this platform since 2012 to this day and purchased and renewed a few skin for years (version 3xx and version 4xx). one skin was the main reason to actually come to this platform and choose Invision in the first place.
One of the first things admins are searching when want to choose a platform, is really browsing it's third party offering and marketplace. every community have that and decision to stop their marketplace was short-sightd. now they say it was not selling all that much but speaking to third party developers, none complain about their sell was down. more than one even said Invision stole their ideas and works from them for their benefits... they didn't even let marketplace continue function for duration of version 4 until the end. very suddenly and out of the thin air they can remove a mega feature like this, mid-way through a product, so it was alarming and stuff like this can happen again for version 5.

One of the best options for modern online communities
One of the best options for modern online communities. I use it for more than 10 years and eventually even built my business around it with currently 7 websites/licenses.
All competitors or free alternatives have at least one of these two problems: they are too limited (e.g. forums only) so you can’t run a modern, flexible and monetised community with just one piece of software; or their design and usability is outdated and feels like online communities 20 years ago. Invision Community masters both of these aspects and that’s why it stands out in a positive way.
The downside is the shift to cloud offers which comes with a huge price increase. A comparable cloud offer takes a self-hosted license from $16,58 a month (199/12) to at least $169 a month; ten times as much! Many communities (including most of my own) will not be able to compensate for such a huge price increase. So while I am happy with the product for now, I am very uncertain about the future.
Excellent Product, Fantastic Customer Service
I have been using Invision Community's software for over 20 years now, and I am extremely happy with the quality of the product and the high level of customer service from the company. While there are a number of alternatives out there in the space (and I have considered all of them), Invision has a finessed forum/community product that is simply unmatched by the competition. There are a range of cloud-based pricing options, but for someone like me with a small community I have found their self-hosted solution ($200/y) to be excellent value for money considering that you unlock an entire suite of UGC and community solutions (including blog, gallery, commerce) that you can customise to your heart's content.
Best of all, despite the fact that Invision Community clearly has a number of high-profile clients, their management and customer service team are always available on their official forums to discuss technical issues, improvements to the software and more. I have even had a number of my own feature suggestions heard by the top-level management team and implemented in various updates, so they don't just pay attention to just the biggest-paying customers. And they always take the time to offer considered responses to complaints and questions about their software offering. In fact, I've never seen a company be so openly transparent and communicative with its customer base.
You might find that Invision Community doesn't quite offer the community experience features that you need, but you can be sure that the quality of the software they offer is incredible and the support/company feedback excellent. I highly recommend trying their suite with a free trial to see if their platform offers what you need, but if quality and customer service matters to you I would say that Invision Community deserves your custom.
A stellar experience!
I've been using Invision Community for both of my communities the last few years, and it's been nothing but a stellar experience. Support has been responsive and quick to help through their forums, while regularly releasing software updates and new features.
Powerful and Versatile Platform
Invision Community is a powerful and versatile platform for building and managing online communities. Its extensive features, customization options, and focus on user engagement make it an attractive option for a wide range of users and organizations. However, it’s important to consider the pricing structure and potential complexities before making a decision.
I have been an Invision customer for a…
I have been an Invision customer for a few years. I recently decided to put my vBullet project aside and go back to using the new IC5 servers, because the marketing built on the new features was simply fantastic.
The software in question is wonderful, the problem here is the price charged for an infrastructure (CLOUD) where customers cannot have "FTP" access. What type of "CLOUD/Hosting" services do not provide "FTP" access? I am currently a self-hosted customer and intended to migrate my services to Invision's cloud infrastructure, but when I read the information that access to FTP, files and other similar services that customers pay for is not granted, I chose to continue as a self-hosted service.
The problem is that Invision has been demonstrating that this type of contract/customers will very soon no longer receive support, news, updates and/or new features and this is becoming increasingly clear. Unfortunately, I felt cheated with the new version. The marketing/management team has made so many incredible announcements with several interesting features, but unfortunately they will only be available to customers who pay for an infrastructure of approximately 600 dollars, in which you have no advantage whatsoever since access to basic services such as ("FTP") are not available. And whenever asked, the answer we get is, look for a qualified service provider who can meet your needs and build an application for you. The problem is that when the "Market" was alive, I bought services from many providers who no longer respond to us. I am a programmer and could indeed create several new features, but there is no official documentation of the new version that can help in the creation of new applications. This assessment of mine was given according to what I am feeling at the moment, because I want to take advantage of the new systems, considering that the prices charged are abusive and in a way the importance of self-hosted customers has been somewhat doubtful. Otherwise, it is a good company, it just needs to improve on this issue of cloud infrastructure, its values and new resources that seem to be built exclusively for large companies or customers who can pay for a "CLOUD" infrastructure with high values, because most of the time they are customers with 0 knowledge about "CLOUD/VPS/SERVERS"

Couldn't Be Happier!
I've been an Invision Community customer for several years now, starting with the Self-Hosted plan before transitioning to Cloud. Occasionally, I explore other forum platforms—not out of dissatisfaction, but simply to stay informed on the latest developments and see how others approach online communities. However, I have yet to find another service that matches Invision Community in terms of polish, functionality, and overall quality. The platform is feature-rich, well-designed, and offers excellent value for the price. I'm truly a happy customer and grateful to have discovered Invision Community all those years ago. Without a doubt, a 5+ star company!

Cloud plan has been smooth sailing for 5 years.
Invision Community is a small team who are committed to improving their forum software. Developers are around to help on their forum when you run into trouble. I see people get frustrated that a niche feature isn't implemented they need for their community. I understand this but also as a business owner understand you're designing a platform for a wide array of users. There are still custom apps for this platform as well as custom developers.
While not an absolute perfect experience, this so far has been the best experience I've had with forum software. I've had my forum up for 5 years now with this software on their cloud package. It's been easy to apply updates and keep things running smoothly.

Over a decade of good experience with Invision Community
I've used Invision Community as a user since 2003 and a client since 2013. I've had little to complain about during that time: their community software seems always to be at the cutting edge, and looks beautiful, especially the emerging version 5. They move with the times and have stayed relevant because of it.
Nothing's perfect, of course, and there are slip-ups along the way. The use of canned replies by support staff is not always judicious (especially when considering a negative review here, which I've just read), and I've had a few instances where there's room for improvement in support.

Top Forum software out there!
We have been using Invision Community for around 20 years for our self-hosted 15 car communities. It has been the backbone to our business all these years and their support is top notch as well. Upgrading has also been a breeze and they have really put in a lot of effort to make upgrading seamless.
I have been using their products for 01/2015
I have been using their products for over 10 years. I am currently using their latest version 5.0.2 and am delighted with the many improvements to the user experience. I also have wonderful impressions of their support team - accurate and with professional support.
Extremely satisfied with Invision
