Had my kitchen sink hot water tap failing to turn off i.e. tap would just go around & around. Water continuing to leak despite me turning off the water main. Contacted Irwin's Plumbing Adelaide who sent out a plumber called Henry (I should have checked if he was a qualified plumber or an apprentice? - Lessons Learned). I explained that although my house was built in 1917 the brass taps were a lot more recent. He turned the tap & agreed I was right! I asked if he could take the "covering" off the tap to look at the tap connection behind. He said there was no need as he could tell it was a worn thread. I asked him 3 times & he eventually looked. He then said he would go to his car & then give me some quotes. He also said that the dripping water was coming from the water tank in the roof, so I asked him whether he could at least arrange a "plug" to stop the water flowing, while we discussed the quotes. He did not even check in the kitchen cupboards to see if there was a valve to cut off the water (after he left I checked but no valve). He said he could not plug the water flow & it would just have to run until I got a new tap or the hot water tank emptied. Was my job now an emergency & I had to make a quick decision? He then returned & said there were 3 options, ranging from above $1,000.00 to over $2k. However, these were for stainless steel components, after I had already informed him that I required brass, for obvious reasons. He then spoke to his boss on the speaker phone & his boss said I had 3 options, exactly the same as Henry had done. During the conversation the word "brass" came up a few times but did not seem to sink in. I was then offered a pensioner "discount" if I took up one of the quotes. Finished the call. Paid my invoice (noting that it showed Integral Tradeworks P/L on the receipt?) On departing Henry said there was another option i.e. #4 (I thought there was only 3?), in that I could source the brass components myself & then ring them to install. Fat chance! My nephew visited the next day & for $15.00 bought a plug from Mitre 10 to finally stop the water flow. Hooray!
Avoid Irwins Plumbing-Port Adelaide, SA
This was one of the worst experiences we have had with a trades company. We booked an appointment for an urgent blocked drain and the plumber called to cancel as he was running late. The next day a booking was made for 8.30am he arrived over an hour late. For an urgent job, that is completely unacceptable. Their lack of organisation and respect for customers' time is unbelievable.
Before they even started, they demanded a 10% deposit. After spending less than an hour on site, they insisted on immediate full payment for a bill of more than $1,000. In our opinion, those prices are outrageously inflated and nowhere near justified for the amount of work completed.
The entire visit felt more like a sales appointment than a plumbing service. There was constant pressure to approve additional work up to $27,000 and expensive upgrades instead of simply fixing the issue we called them out for.
We felt completely ripped off. Between the excessive pricing, poor punctuality, cancellations, and relentless upselling, this was an incredibly disappointing experience. There are plenty of honest, reliable plumbers who charge fair prices and treat their customers with respect. Based on our experience, Irwins Plumbing is not one of them.
Irwins plumbing created a false sense of urgency- ringing their representative on their mobile while we were present and applied significant pressure to persuade us to commit to costly upgrades. Rather than providing balanced and objective advice, they presented three upgrade options priced at approximately $12,000, $18,000, and $27,000, implying that these substantial additional expenditures were necessary or strongly recommended.
The manner in which these upgrade options were presented was high-pressure and left us feeling that we were required to make an immediate decision without sufficient time to properly consider the costs, seek independent advice, or explore alternative options. This conduct caused considerable stress and placed us under undue pressure to agree to upgrades that were well beyond our expectations and financial capacity.
We believe this sales approach was misleading and unfair, as it relied on creating a sense of urgency rather than allowing us to make a fully informed and voluntary decision. We contend that this conduct falls short of the standard of honesty, fairness, and transparency that consumers are entitled to expect.
We would never use this company again and would strongly advise others to think twice before booking.
Will be lodging a formal complaint with Consumer and Business Services (CBS) by calling 131 882 regarding my experience with Integral Tradeworks Pty Ltd trading as Irwins Plumbing. I am also considering referring this matter to A Current Affair as I believe my experience is a matter of public interest.

He arrived when expected and notified me that he was on his way. I would recommend him to anyone needing a plumber and I would engage his services again without hesitation.

Do not engage services with NStream Plumbing Pty Ltd trading as Irwins Plumbing.
These guys will take advantage of the vulnerable and they should be ashamed of themselves.
We contacted Irwin's plumbing to come and look at a 25L hot water tank that isn't working and a leaking toilet.
As soon as the plumber arrived, I've never heard the word 'non compliant' so many times with everything he looked at. Non Compliant hot water system, non compliant waste connected on the back of the toilet.
Pulls up a quote on his iPad which he pulls up 3 quotes. First quote which includes all works, $21,000. The second quote $16,000 and the third quote $13,000 which all had different scopes of work.
I had to confirm the numbers with him to check if he was serious, and he was which is the sad part.
I told him, I'm not the owner that we are the tenant of the commercial lease to then have questions around what my budget was. They went away and came back with a quote of $7000.
I basically told them to give me a copy of the quote and piss off.
These guys will manufacture urgency and throw non compliance on everything.
The pan collar needed replacing $20 MAX from Bunnings but their solution was to replace the toilet with a $3000 toilet.
But they needed to make sure they got a scissor lift for the outside of the building haha.
Then they proceeded to quote me $7000 for a new 25L hot water system - $500 tops.
Their scam works where you don't negotiate with the plumber on site, you get put onto the phone with a compliance officer who will negotiate the price with you and verify why the price is what the price is.
After I told him I'm going to trust my gut, I asked for the quote. The plumber said he has to drop his tools off to the car first and never returned.
Stay Away. They prey on the vulnerable that have urgent situations. They scare you with terms you don't understand.
Run their quotes or scenarios through ChatGPT and see their red flags.
We never used them obviously, but hope this review helps someone.
Also these 5 star reviews are fake on this platform.
Wade was great, fast, efficient and clean. Clearly takes alot of pride in his work.
