Allergic Reaction
The shikibuton has a strong odor that I thought was from having been packaged and that would dissipate. It actually got worse, and I woke up Sunday morning wheezing, with a headache, sore throat, itchy eyes, and itchy skin. Customer service’s was response was that “some people just don’t like the smell of the mattress.” It comes across as gaslighting to try to evade any responsibility for a product that is irritating to people with allergies, other immune system issues, and asthma. Subsequently, I saw other complaints online; the company knows there is a problem. But, they also know the cost and hassle of shipping back a big, heavy, awkward-to-maneuver shikibuton defeats the purpose, so likely figure that once they’ve got your money that you will give up in exasperation. The shikibuton cover was impossible for me to get on the shikibuton (it is like a big pillow case with no gusset to accommodate the mattress width and I had already arranged for the case’s return.) The skikibuton was sagging after only 2 days of usage, and in addition to an allergic reaction, I woke up sweating on Sunday, so the thing also excessively traps body heat. Guess what, JLife? I am not giving up, I am going public with my experience, have filed a BBB complaint, and I am disputing the charge with my bank. Hopefully more people will speak up as well. This is unacceptable.
