Having had the Kerbo Charge now for just over 1 year I would say it provides a practical solution for households that do not have access to off-street parking and need a means of charging an electric vehicle from their property. The product fulfils its intended purpose and, once installed, provides a permanent and straightforward route for running a charging cable safely across the pavement. The availability of local authority grant funding can also help to reduce the initial cost for eligible residents.

However, from my personal experience, I feel there are several limitations that should be considered, particularly for people with mobility or dexterity issues.

Firstly, I consider the Kerbo Charge to be an expensive solution for what is essentially a cable-management system, even where a local authority grant is available to contribute towards the cost. The grant certainly helps, but there remains a significant cost to the user. And then there is still the aspect of liability, make sure to read your local authorities small print as liability will still fall on the user. The product is said to have a 10 year warranty but my local authority agreement excludes any vandalism caused so depending on where you live you would need to consider if people would vandalise the product for any reason, as this would cause further cost. There may also be a licence fee like in with my local authority area which is 2 years but no mention of any renewal cost. You are also unable to have the product installed independently and are instead required to contact your local authority for planning permission and a licence which can take in my case 12 months to sort out.

Secondly, I do not consider the product particularly accessible for someone with mobility limitations such as myself at times when my health flares up. The charging cable has to be lifted and inserted into the Kerbo Charge, which requires the user to crouch or bend down. Depending on an individual's mobility and dexterity, this can be difficult and potentially uncomfortable. This is an important consideration for anyone who may have difficulty bending or crouching.

There is also an issue with the fixed position of the Kerbo Charge. Once installed, its location cannot readily be changed, whereas the charging port on an electric vehicle can be positioned in a number of different locations depending on the make and model of the vehicle. Consequently, the position of the Kerbo Charge may require the owner to purchase a longer charging cable in order to reach the vehicle, creating an additional expense.

In my own circumstances, I am also unable to reposition my vehicle to make the connection easier, as doing so would obstruct access to my neighbour's property. This further limits the practical flexibility of the system for me.

I fully appreciate the need for local authorities to consider pedestrian safety when allowing charging cables to cross pavements. However, I feel that alternative safety measures could potentially have been considered or trialled in my particular circumstances. There is very little pedestrian traffic past my property, and therefore I believe the risk of someone tripping or falling over the cable is extremely low.

I am unable to comment on the communication with the team at Kerbo Charge as all of my communication went through my local authority. For this reason I am unsure of when they first made contact with the company all I know it was 12 months from my first contact with my local authority to then getting the product installed.

Overall, I believe the Kerbo Charge is a useful and well-intentioned solution that addresses a genuine problem for residents without off-street parking. However, my experience has highlighted that it may not be suitable for everyone. In particular, I believe greater consideration should be given to accessibility, the physical demands placed on users, the fixed position of the unit and the additional costs that can arise from vehicle-specific charging-port locations.

Kerbo Charge worked with a local installer (Weev) to complete the job from start to finish. The whole thing was simple for us as the customer as they handled the street works permit and everything. The product is simple to use, looks really neat and tidy and is completely flat to the pavement. Even across our (pretty wide) pavement, this is a brilliant solution to the problem of charging your car at home with no off-street parking. I'd highly recommend!

Some minor difficulties in getting an install date partly due to factors for my area. Team were great though and got it across the line. Also advice on sote on how to apply for grant.

I had my Kerbo Charge charging channel fitted this week, it was over seen by Ben from Kerbo Charge. The install was quick and clean, with explanation of what they were doing at each stage. The charging channel solution is very neat and avoids me having to convert my front garden to parking as the only other alternative to get home charging.

My Kerbo Charge gully was installed a fortnight ago, as part of a pilot scheme being run by my local council. Because this was a completely new thing for the council, it took them over six months to get everything organised which was quite exasperating, but Ben at Kerbo Charge provided regular updates.
Anyway, in the end I can say that it's definitely been worth the wait. I'm particularly pleased by the quality and design of the gully - it's easy to use, with a strong cover that snaps down with a re-assuring click after you've inserted or removed your charging cable, and the fit is completely flush with the pavement. And having been reliant on public charging for the last two years I'm obviously really appreciating the convenience and financial savings that come from being able to charge at home.

So simple but so brilliant ! Being able to now safely charge my company car from home instead of using the public charger network is saving me circa £250 a month. I have previously had to travel 3 miles to charge my new car that has cost not only time, but also additional expenditure paying over 10 times what it cost to charge from home. Despite heavy rain and snow, the kerbo Charge installation was seamless and looks exceptionally neat and tidy and is also very inconspicuous so much so my wife walked over it without noticing it had actually been installed. This truly is the way forward negating any health and safety issues. I am so glad that I have fought hard to get the Kerbo Charge fitted, it is the ideal solution for individuals like me that think about the environment and only have on street parking outside of my house.

We live in an area where there is mostly on road parking from the Victorian/Edwardian era and the channels are ideal for a safe and easy way to charge our vehicle without the risk of the trip hazard that our previous cable cover could cause.

Thanks to Ben and KerboCharge for helping me get the cross payment charging solution installed with the permission of my local council. After an initial discussions a solution was provided in a timely and effective manner. Great company to work with and highly recommended.

Due to not having off street parking, charging my EV was very difficult as I always needed to find a public charger. The Gully allows me to safely charge at home as there are no cables trailing across the public pathway outside my home. Installation was quick and relatively mess free with no disruption caused to neighbours. After installation area was left very clean. Staff were excellent and explained the process throughout. Full instructions of use given. Extremely pleased with the product itself. Easy to use and safe storage of cable. Highly recommended.

Living in Bolton there are lots of houses without off street parking and this could have severely impacted our ability to get cost effective car charging had it not been for Kerbo Charge. I research every possible solution to be able to charge our car safely from home and I just kept coming back to Kerbo Charge.
The solution means there are no dangerous cables across the pavement and it is far superior to using other types of removable cable ramps.
Fitting was very quick - just a couple of hours and now we have total peace of mind when charging our car.

I contacted Kerbocharge when we purchased our P-HEV a few months ago. I was informed that at the time they didn't cover the Bolton area...

However, a few weeks ago, I got contact from Ben, wanting some information on the site of the cable channel, and last week, got a reply saying that Bolton Council was prepared to allow this installation as part of a pilot scheme in the borough.

A few days after this, and after a call over a couple of questions, they turned up. Within a few hours the channel was installed, cleanly and professionally.
They even managed to modify the installation so I can close the garden gate when i'm charging the car.

I've still got to get the wall-charger installed for the car, but was very happy with the contact, speed and quality of the work.

Honestly, it's great to see ingenuity like this not being hampered by bureaucracy. It's also nice to see that a council is forwards looking to solutions like this...
