Key Bank might be the worst bank in the history of banks. First, they close my local branch (Devon PA), forcing me to an inconvenient branch 20 mins further away (Malvern PA). Then, they repeatedly an... Ver mais

Not knowledgeable at all
First off. The local branch has been great and the personnel there are awesome, however, they emailed corporate for an answer about ee bonds and got an inaccurate response which tells me there corporate staff do not know what they are doing and are not up on the laws these days. It seems I will be waiting for all the estate checks I deposited to clear , stop depositing the rest of the checks i have there, and close the account and move and invest the funds to a bank that actually know what they they are doing. I have zero confidence in this bank with our estate account ! I would advice anyone to look elsewhere
horrible
horrible, 3 days in a row called the customer service even at night, no representative so far did answer my call. I waited more than an hour but no luck. Is there any agent for real? Key bank should be sued for their non-responsive service.
Only ranking one star bc ZERO is not…
Only ranking one star bc ZERO is not available. This system sucks and customer service is worse than no help at all - they have multiple different systems, none of which are identified when you're looking at a screen, and you are transferred multiple times while people ask you questions that you can't answer from the screens. For example - Are you in Connect Direct or RapidConnect? How the hell would I know? Can't answer. Headings in the system mean nothing at all so you can't navigate through menus with any sense. First told me my tenant used credit card, but after he went back to the bank to get a NEW debit card to use and they thought it was credit again, I believe the tenant.
Nightmare of a bank
When mom became paralyzed- I went to her branch to get added to her acct as POA. (I had all required paperwork the lawyer had given me) This literally took 2 hours. Then I said to close safety deposit box but was told I had to call & make appt- this was INSANE! I was in bank- in the two hrs we seen 5 employees & maybe 7 customers. They wouldn’t even make appt-said I had to call! Ok, fine, whatever, I thought all was good-maybe they were just having bad day!
Two days later they call- said I had to go back with all paperwork again because they had been faxed in wrong order- exact words. So, I go back- this was another 1 & 1/2 hrs.
After mom died, I went to close accts so I could put into executive acct at my bank. Again had all necessary paperwork. We walk in- teller asks what can she do-I told her thanks, but I think we need to talk to person at desk. She says no, she can help us close checking & savings acct. After about 10 min- she takes all paperwork to lady at desk after all. So I go to desk lady, only to be told to go sit, they didn’t need me yet! Both women were talking very low & making phone calls-basically it sounded like they didn’t know how to do it. After about 40 min of sitting-I go back to desk-again told to go sit in waiting area- not even at her desk. Finally, she comes over & says here is check for closed savings acct, but she can’t give me check for other acct because of some $160 deposit made to her acct after she died. They would need to mail it & I should have it 7-10 business days. I asked to take all out except for $500- she said I couldn’t do that. My lawyer tells me that was bull- I should have been able to take out whatever I want. So, anyhow, this is about a week before Christmas!
It’s now Feb 10,2026 & I still do not have the check! It’s ridiculous!! I was told acct was closed Jan 6th- this was 3 weeks after I was in bank- why? I’ve made several calls & between getting transferred to different people & put on hold, not a single one of those calls were less than an hour. It’s now over a WEEK since I started calling,
First call from yesterday, I talked to a very nice lady- by end of conversation, she said I could go to bank to get check, but with all the calls & problems, I asked if she could call branch while I waited on hold so she explain what was going on & to minimize any further issues & after 15 min- she says I can go to branch to do paperwork, what paperwork ? I did all paperwork prior to the holiday, & then, after all that, they would still need to MAIL check. Why? Said she didn’t know-then assured me she would call me back today- didn’t happen. I called again today & asked to speak to resolution dept- I was on hold for like 20 min but same person comes back & said SHE talked to them- they have to research where check went & they would call with resolution- I asked WHEN? She didn’t know. Now it’s been EIGHT WEEKS since I was at bank to close account & I STILL DON’T HAVE MY $$$!!!
It’s quite a bit of $$ too. I apologize for length of review- I even left things out. Now, they tell you you’re being recorded when you call- doesn’t anyone ever listen to these calls? There are recordings that can confirm everything I have said.
For date, it’s been 12/18/25 thru who knows when I will receive my $$.
I guess I need to get my lawyer to tell me what options we have because, like I said, it’s been 8 weeks since I went into bank to close acct!!!
If I could give negative 5 I would
If I could give negative 5 I would, I went to take out money with key bank and the machine ate my card and when I went to tell the ladies they laughed in my face and told me they couldn’t get my card out! In aw with how incredibly BAD they handled the situation! Never will i recommend this place! This happened in SWANTON,OH
$25 a month for a simple checking acct?
Opened an acct with them a while ago, (15,000.00).
Last month, I found they started taking a 25.00/month "maintenance fee".
For what ?? I mean, I could understand 3 or 5.00, $25.00 ?
I mean, I would never have opened a bank acct that charged me a fee for me to give them my money, but there it was.
I always used Key bank because they were more of a friendly, hometown kind of bank, but this has really ruined that for me.
I contacted customer service on messaging, but the rep just kept repeating that it was in the disclosures. Not helpful or showing any desire to keep my accts.
I've had always loved Huntington Bank, but there are no offices close to me, but im reconsidering making the trip now.
I spent about 30 minutes using the chat…
I spent about 30 minutes using the chat box on key Banks web Site. I asked for a human & the site assured me I was talking to a person not a computer by the name of Brett. I was trying to set right a mistake Key Bank made when they sent me a Business ATM card instead of the personal ATM card. No matter what I wrote about not wanting the Business ATM card & was there anything I needed to do in regards to the unwanted ATM Card. Brett" who I think was actually a computer failed to answer many times my question & wanted to redirect my inquiry to the business dept to get that problem straightened out. No matter te questions I posed my question were never answered. I not sure if this Brett was so over work that he didn't have the time to read my mesages or in realaity even though the Chat box claimed they had connected me to a human they really only connected me to a computer which didn't understand my questions. I've also had many problems with the Key Bank Branch that I use of mix ups requiring me to make repeated request for me to stop by again to take a scan of my Driver's License along with other problems. I'm hopping that these things get figured out eventually as I would like to not deal with changing fromKey Bank. I hope this review leads to better training & support from management. Rick Clauder
Poor customer service.
Poor customer service.
My husband and I had a appointment with Nancy McDowell, who worked at a Plattsburgh location on rt 3,to discuss a loan. When I asked her a question she yelled" I'm not arguing about this with you". She was impatient and I could tell she couldn't wait for us to leave. Ms. McDowell has no business interacting with people. I am only giving 1 star because 0 is not an option.
I about to switch back to a credit…
I about to switch back to a credit union keybank sucks
Key Bank has given me bad service
My story with Key Bank is one of deep disappointment. My branch manager is great and he is wonderfully helpful with the routine transactions within his control. Bank policies set from above are another story.
What caused my de facto break with the bank was its policies on sending wires. I am starting a business project that involves sending a couple of wires a month. Because of the circumstances involved, I am given 24 hours to send the wire, and I will only know at the last minute how much it should be made out for.
The bank does not make it easy. It has a rule that wires must be transacted in person. Fine. Well, not so fine, actually, because other than Saturday it only functions during normal business hours—precisely when I am at work or driving home. I live in a Philadelphia suburb and usually drive into Philadelphia for work. It takes me an hour to drive home. By way of comparison Chase Bank closes at 5:00 every day and it has both a branch downtown and another couple of branches that are on my way home from work. It would not be hard for me to make it into the bank before it closes. Key Bank, by contrast, closes at 4:00 and has neither branches downtown nor on my way home. Apparently Key Bank is not interested in getting the business of the thousands of people who live in my bedroom community and drive into downtown Philadelphia.
So Key Bank insists that I come into the bank to initiate a wire and then makes it totally impossible for me to do so.
My branch manager, who is much better than the structure within which he works, found a solution. He learned that it was possible to arrange to send wires out myself, from home, from a business account. In fact, the two accounts from which I wanted to send out the wires were both business accounts. So great—it was just a matter of setting it up. In fact, that was two months ago and the process has yet to be completed. The bank has set up obstacle after obstacle in name of “security.” Let me give just a couple of examples. I had to fill out a long form listing all kinds of information about the soundness of the accounts. It seemed like an application for a loan, not arranging to send out money that was visibly in my account. If the money is there, it gets sent out. If it is not there, it is not sent out. The situation involves zero rink. But still it acted like I was applying for a loan.
Another example. I was going to need a key to insert into my computer, and I needed to choose between three models. I called customer service to ask which was the correct model. It was strictly an IT question that created no exposure for my account. Nonetheless I was put through the whole process of being verified. The last step of this was being sent a code and reading it back to the agent. I was talking to her on my land line, so I asked her to send it to my cellphone. No, that went against security, because my cellphone number did not appear in their records. They could call it into my landline, she said. But then, I would have to end this call to get it, and the code would no longer be applicable. She kept insisting that was the rule.
At one point my very patient branch manager brought in a “specialist.” When I talked to her, I expressed my anger at how things were being handled. Her tone of voice made clear she thought I was being unreasonable. She was on the case and she would get it done, so why was I complaining? To make a long story short, that was a full month ago and the process is not yet over. So my frustration was justified. I hope I never have to talk to her again.
A few days ago my branch manager called with good news—the process was completed for one of the accounts. The key came in and I took it into the bank for him to set me up. Even with a bank official doing it, it took about twenty minutes. The arrangements for the account I will be using more are not yet completed. I don’t ask anymore when it will be done, because whatever I am told will not be true.
During these two months, the bank could have said, “Since this is taking so long, we will let you come into the bank on Saturdays to initiate a wire and later in the week call in the exact amount it needs to be for. It could. But it doesn’t. Needless to say, my business project has been in limbo for two months because of all the roadblocks the bank has created.
My reaction is one that is contempt and rage in equal measures, and I have lost all respect for Key Bank. I have been the victim of a combination of policies that the bank refuses to change despite seeing their unintended consequences. The mindset it reveals is ossified and unintelligent. I continue using this bank only because the personnel at my branch is great. In terms of the institution as a whole, however, I have come to loathe Key Bank.
If I could put zero stars I would
If I could put zero stars I would, I cashed a check on my mobile app for a grand I do contract work blue Caller property maintenance and more I’m really good with working with my hands any ways I guess some one logged into my account in Nigeria so their accusing me of droid or at least their involved. The funny thing is I’m on parole and I’m a combat vet who saw action in Africa I want nothing to do with those ass holes. You can not trust them with your money you can not trust them at all your guilty as hell no mater the out come with them. I showed them my EIN AND MORE this bank should honestly be shut down I honestly wish the worst on them I’m homeless now could not pay rent and they are refusing to reales my money
I am posting this to warn other…
I am posting this to warn other customers, especially those handling estate matters in Washington State.
After my mother passed away, I followed Washington law exactly. More than 40 days after her death, I presented KeyBank with a valid, notarized Affidavit of Successor under RCW 11.62, along with the death certificate and required identification, to close her account and cash an estate check.
Despite the law being clear, the branch refused to act. I was incorrectly told that I had to open an “estate account” to cash the check and that their legal department had to “review” the affidavit before they could close the account. Another employee even stated that “Washington state law does not dictate our policy,” which was extremely concerning.
For clarity, the law states (RCW 11.62.020(1)) that 40 days after death, a financial institution shall release funds upon presentation of a compliant affidavit. The statute does not give banks additional time once the documents are presented.
Even more troubling:
RCW 11.62.020(2) and RCW 11.62.030 explicitly state that once the bank releases the funds in good faith, it is fully discharged from liability. In other words, the law protects the bank when it complies — yet KeyBank still refused.
This all occurred on the same day I picked up my mother’s cremated remains, making an already devastating day far worse.
I escalated the matter to KeyBank’s Executive Office, provided updated sworn statements, and explained the law again. Despite this, the process continues to be delayed, with no resolution offered and no clear explanation of KeyBank’s actual policy for Washington State estates.
The statute exists specifically to avoid probate and unnecessary delay, yet that is exactly what KeyBank has caused.
If you are dealing with an estate, especially in Washington, be prepared to advocate strongly for yourself and know the law before walking into a KeyBank branch.
Do not give anyone at Key bank on North…The bank robbed me for 713
Do not give anyone at Key bank on North Dixie your cash! I gave the teller 1,025. Six days later someone at that bank took 713 out of my account and the reason they stated was, I only gave them 445 the week before! I have my receipt and I am still having to fight outside that branch to get my money back.
Bad customer service
I had the worst customer service I have ever experienced in the Denver Tech Center branch. I had no choice but to close my account. If you open up an account at Key Bank expect bad customer service.
Stay away from Key bank investments
Stay away from Key bank investments . They have absolutely no knowledge .They got me trapped in an annuity at a young age …Vanguard or Charles Schwab would be a much better option !
They are okay not completely desirable
They are okay not completely desirable, the phone bankers give you different answers about simple questions, one lady spoke like this, I don't see no reasons, and sounded like she had no teeth, um, their zelle stuff is the stuff of nightmares, I am astounded at all this that I just have to laugh, my advice is only go with them if you can't use a different bank, however they are very forgiving of fees and 8 times out of 10 kinda know what they are doing
I strongly advise anyone considering…
I strongly advise anyone considering KeyBank to look elsewhere. There are many reputable financial institutions that value transparency and customer service. KeyBank is not one of them. Save yourself the headache and choose a bank that treats its customers with honesty and respect.
Avoid KeyBank at all costs.
I've had good experiences as a customer…
I've had good experiences as a customer here. Not sure why all the negative reviews. I have brought my adults kids, nieces, nephews, and friends to this bank and never had a complaint. They don't play with my money, the tellers and other bank employees are awesome. The only disadvantage I could site is that they don't have branches in Arizona.
Worst credit company ever!
The last year of my truck loan their collection company called me at least twice a day to inquire about the balance of the note even though the payment was current. I am so glad to be done with them I will never use Key Bank again for anything especially not for a car loan! Stay away from Key Bank!!
The worst bank
The worst bank. I opened a Money Market Account with a promised good rate. After six months, they lowered the interest from 4% to a ridiculous 0.5% without any notification. No wonder this bank has the worst reviews. There are other banks paying much better interest rates. Besides, everything is delayed. I cancelled all my accounts. Beware. Lesson learned.
