As a small business owner myself, I am very sensitive to the effect a negative review can have so I rarely, if ever, post one. This is different. My experience with Emiel Dingemans, the owner of Magicianly, was so egregious I felt that I had to post a review to save others from the very upsetting experience I had. It became clear within days of beginning to work with him that he had no respect for my opinions and sought to impose his will on me no matter what I thought. And despite my taking the time to provide him with the extensive information about my business he requested, the first emails he designed for me made it clear that he had not read any of it. Further, he did not do the copy audit he promises to do in his sales presentation. In that presentation, he claims that his designers are top notch, but they are not. Their skills are average - no better than what I create in Canva and I am not a professional designer. The multiple communication tools he requires clients to use are cumbersome and add no value. Given all of this, I fired him within days knowing that he had misrepresented himself and that he had no respect for me as a client. But since I had already paid him for the month, I was forced to continue working with him. His services are very expensive and I could not afford to walk away from the money I paid. So I thought I would just get through the month and hopefully get some benefit in my Klaviyo performance. I could not have imagined how bad things would get. He taunted and bullied me repeatedly. I don't use these words lightly and have kept our entire Slack conversation as evidence. Every day I dreaded what might be awaiting me in that Slack thread. I was so relieved when the month ended. And as for the results? They were not worth the upset and time I had to spend reviewing and asking for edits. A short- lived increase in Klaviyo revenue, mostly in response to a rare sale I authorized him to offer. Now I know that it would have been better to take inspiration from a well known brand and create the emails and flows myself, which is what I am doing now. I see it is not as difficult as I thought. This is what I recommend for other small businesses. Update: The response from Emeil tells you everything you need to know about him. My LinkedIn profile shows how much everyone who has worked with me has enjoyed the experience. And I will be editing his emails. They are not working as he claims. It sounds like he has put himself on my email list surreptitiously but he has no access to my account to monitor attributed sales.
