very disappointing

very disappointing, i was with moka for years until i decided to move my money elsewhere and close my account, there’s some very glaring issues with this company and app that i will go into below

1: there is no web portal, so if you loose access to your phone your out of luck, even tiny credit unions manage to have proper web portals, for a company that constantly boasts about being on the cutting edge of investing not having even a basic web portal is pretty embarrassing

2: they have NO customer service phone number, NO live chat either, you can either rip your hair out trying to talk to their frankly useless ai chatbot or email them and hope you get a reply in a decent amount of time

3: the fees are ridiculous and hidden behind a ton of walls, they are not upfront at all about what their fees are, so much so i honestly don’t know how they get away with it

4: you really won’t make any significant amount of money with this company, traditional investments or even simple gics are a far better way to grow your money, the most i ever made was 200 in a year off of a 15k+ investment, and that’s not including all their hidden fees

5: they have no easy way to manually add or remove a bank account, you have to get their customer service to do it, the lack of being able to remove a bank account is what really got me, they can and do continue to take $ out of your funding account unless you do 3 different things to stop it, and even then your account is still linked weather you like it or not

6: i absolutely HATE all the red pill crypto bro crap your constantly bombarded with well using this app, like seriously just trying to navigate to basic settings or account information will get you full screen popups about some stupid warren buffett quote that you can’t even dismiss immediately, very annoying and bad design

i really can’t recommend this app to anyone, if you want easy investing use wealthsimple or talk to an investment broker, stay away from this mess of an app

If I could rate them minus 5 stars, I would. Do not waste your time. My bank account was not synced properly and so they were not taking any top ups from my account, not saving any money, this is not the first time my account was not synced to my bank account. I had to contact them a couple of times to figure out the problem. And it happened again, so they were doing nothing on their end! Of course that didn’t prevent them from taking a subscription fee every month for over a year!!! Corporate crooks! They don’t want to help you save, they just want to steal money from you!!!

I don’t recommend this Application

I don’t recommend this Application . I was using since 2023 but I haven’t seen any growth for my investment but they charge $11.30 with tax every month so 2024 June I decided to not to invest but since that they withdrawn cash from my account without my consent. I lost over $1000 with my investment . I already reported to my bank and they are investigating the issues. This app doesn’t have live chart ,Call Center number , you have to contact them by email it’s hard to communicate and at one point they won’t respond any of your email . Please make sure not to invest anything . If you guys had the same issue please dispute the transaction to the bank so this will flag for future scams .

Very unethcial business practices

Very unethcial business practices. In 2022 I requested with withdrawal my funds from Moka. I also requested to stop all weekly contributions as I needed to money to purchase a house for my family. I was no longer investing with Moka. However the company kept on charing me a $10.50 monthly fee for their services for 2 years. I requested a reimbursement and they refuses to honor my request. Moka was not an investment for me but a liability. I was paying a monthly fee for no servies. Very shady busines practices.

Avoid Moka at All Costs – Negligent, Deceptive, and an Absolute Nightmare


I have never dealt with a company as incompetent, deceptive, and irresponsible as Moka (now owned by Mogo). Their handling of my refund request has been an absolute disgrace and highlights systemic issues with their operations and ethics.

1. A 9-Day Wait (and Counting) for a Simple Refund?

On January 15, 2025, Moka acknowledged that they owed me a refund of $128.66 for subscription fees they charged despite offering absolutely no service. Fast forward 9 days, and I am still waiting for my money.

Moka has repeatedly tried to justify this delay by claiming that refunds require a “process” and that their finance team needs time. Let’s get real: issuing a refund is a basic financial transaction that could be processed in hours. Their excuse is laughable, especially since they process withdrawals instantly. This isn’t a delay; it’s negligence or intentional withholding.

2. Charging Fees for Doing Absolutely Nothing

Moka charged me monthly fees while my account had no balance and no activity. On top of that, they didn’t even provide monthly statements during this period—likely hoping I wouldn’t notice. This is deceptive, predatory, and potentially unlawful. Charging for a service they weren’t providing isn’t just unethical; it’s outright fraud.

3. Empty Words, Zero Action

Their customer service is nothing but a parade of excuses and empty promises. Representatives, including a “Manager of Customer Support,” claim they’re “doing everything possible,” yet after nearly 10 days, nothing has been done. They’ve opened my emails (tracked), but no meaningful action has followed.

Even worse, they had the audacity to suggest I stop posting about my experience on social media—while my account remains empty, and I’ve been forced to go without basic necessities like food. This level of disregard for customers is shocking.

4. No Accountability, Just Threats

Instead of addressing their failures, Moka tried to deflect blame, even suggesting that persistent follow-ups on my part could delay the process further. The fact that a financial services company sees no urgency in refunding money they wrongly took is terrifying.

5. What This Means for You

If you’re considering using Moka, don’t. This company is a disaster waiting to happen. They charge fees without delivering services, their refund process is deliberately slow, and their customer service does nothing to resolve issues.

If they can mishandle something as simple as a refund, imagine what would happen if they were responsible for managing your investments. Do not trust them with your money.

6. My Advice to Moka/Mogo

Fix this mess now. Refund my money immediately, issue a public apology, and overhaul your processes before regulators come knocking—and trust me, they will.

Be cautious - Cannot withdraw funds

While the app seemed convenient at the beginning, Moka invests funds as a subsidiary of CI Investments. However, CI investments will not acknowledge you as a client. I have been trying to withdraw my funds for 7 months with no success. Moka provided incorrect contact information for CI investing, and has no phone customer service line for clients.

Was great in the beginning but no longer. The connection between Moka and most bank account was seamless and solid. However, with 2FA, Moka has found it difficult to solve the security problem. Hence the original foundational idea of round-up and saving change is lost. They still keep charging 3.99 per month though and tell you, you can transfer money into Moka. Well, that defeats the purpose of automated round-up savings. Moka has lost it's core feature. If ordinary budgeting apps like Monarch and Ynab can connect to Banks with 2FA in place, I don't understand why Moka, a financial institution, cannot solve that problem. Beats me! I stopped and closed my Moka account a while back. The process of closing the account was also a bit of pain. They kept on charging my account for a few months after the request to close account was submitted which was not a good experience. It's rather unfortunate for Moka 'coz I had referred and recommended them to many of my friends and family. Too bad!!

Used to be great, now only headaches

It was a great app before their rebranding. Now, it takes them 1 week to process any deposits after bank clearance. Account managers or support is almost nonexistent, it takes forever to receive your investment docs since they are human-processed, without the docs your money won't be invested, it will just sit there until they want. If your bank has mandatory 2FA, the app will disconnect every day meaning you will have to reconnect multiple times per day. The $3.99 fee is very high for the returns they give you, you will pay more in fees than the interest you will earn, unless you deposit a big amount that will earn $6+ a month. Competitors offer lower fees based on earnings, better support, and more products. Avoid them! Save yourself some headaches.

No customer support!

I have tried using the customer support feature since I signed up a month ago and have heard nothing back. Customer support is non existent. Hire more people if you are backlogged but waiting 4 weeks and counting to get a response when they say it might be one day is absurd.

Moka currently owes me $145.51 for bank…

Moka currently owes me $145.51 for bank fees incurred from unauthorized charges to my bank account that I did not consent to. It is an incredibly serious offence to make unauthorized charges to a bank account. I have received deplorable client service working to resolve this issue which was been a multi-week hassle and tremendous efforts in order to be compensated for the fees in full, access my own funds held with the company and close my account. The customer service I have received has been beyond unprofessional or appropriate for a company and business. I continue to be shocked about how this is being managed with no accountability or responsibility. Furthermore, the company continued to make charges to my bank when I no longer have an account with them. It is beyond unacceptable for a business to operate this way.
