Looking for my first mechanical watch
Looking for my first mechanical watch, I've stumbled over Monarte's Squid watch. First I was hesitant to pre-order a watch from a non-established brand. But my worries were unfounded! The founder provided all information I asked for and replied to any of my requests.
The watch I've received is great and I wear it proudly every day! What I like even more is that Monarte is including its community regarding future watch projects and they value our opinion! They keep us updated regularly via newsletter and it's the first newsletter that I actually like reading!
I can recommend Monarte, the product and the experience unconditionally.

Most watches I buy are made to be tough enough to withstand my job and hobbies: diving, climbing, skydiving, to working in the garage. When I bought the Squid, I wanted to put it through its paces and see what it could take. Now half a year later, I can say I am impressed. Despite Monarte marketing the Squid as a piece of art (which it is), the watch has also proven to be a sturdy tool for any situation. It can go with me for a rough day and stay on my wrist for date night after. It is as much tool or art as you want it to be at any moment.

A watch of real quality. All the tolerances were tight. The finishing and transitions are of the highest level. The double sided screws on the bracelet made it more difficult to resize. The other disappointment was the watch pillow in the case box,which appears to have been made out of metal, was twisted out of shape. I would have preferred an actual upholstered cloth pillow

You're right, the double-sided screws can be a bit tricky at first but it’s a one-time effort and offers a much more secure hold, which we think is worth it in the long run. 😊
As for the watch pillow, we totally get it. Some people love it, others not so much. It may not feel as plush, but it’s super practical. Since it can bend, even resized watches fit perfectly without stretching the bracelet.

Beautiful watch
I was in the first group of orders for the Squid, so I have now had several months with the watch. Domen communicated so well throughout the process until the final products shipped. Everything was just as he said. It is a beautiful watch that I am proud to own and wear. It runs better than COSC spec in multiple positions. I look forward to his next projects!

First of all, a big thank you to Domen for the good and clear communication throughout the process from creating to producing and shipping. I could really appreciate the personal approach! From the moment I decided to buy this beautiful time piece, Domen has sent an email of how everything goes during the process the watch goes through. This is a service that I don't think you get anywhere else! Thumbs up!
Now for the watch itself. What a beautiful piece! One of the few watches that immediately convinced me after a long search for the ideal timepiece. The colours are very pretty but fully come into their own under sunshine.
The only criticism is that the dial is not fully alligned with the watch case. I am convinced, though, that this will be perfectly fine in future watches.
I look forward to what the future holds within this brand. Chances are very high that I will buy a new watch within the monarte family!
Overall, this is a beautiful timepiece with unseen service

Squid: Reliable and accurate time piece
I am an entrant in the upcoming Golden Globe Race. This is a retro sailing race in aged vessels during which we will forego modern conveniences like GPS and we will use celestial navigation instead. This requires a reliable chronometer onboard.
In my search for an accurate chronometer, I came across the Monarte Squid offering. Squid's in-house regulated movement of +/- 2 seconds per day, is promising. I am recording the performance of this remarkable timepiece and will consult Monarte's horologist before the race starts. Squid already performed well on my 4700 mile solo nonstop sail in February and March which was a qualification run for said race.

After further communication with with Domen (creator of Monarte)
and further looking into our past communication, he realized that he had made a mistake. He acknowledged this, apologized and made things right.
I can appreciate his communication and acknowledgement. He is running things pretty much on his own and I understand it can be overwhelming.
The main thing is that he is an honest person who is trying to build his business the right way.
Because of his continued communication, honesty and making things right with me I decided to re evaluate my rating.
First review:
I don't leave many reviews but I feel in this case, buyers need to know what they are actually getting into by purchasing a Monarte time piece directly from them.
The watch is 40.5mm which I wasn't sure it would be the right fit for me as I tend to wear 42mm to 44mm. The reason I decided to give them a try is because I was told if it didn't fit as I would like, that I would be able to return it for a full refund no questions asked.
After receiving the watch, it looked nice enough but could tell it was a little to small for my liking. I still tried it on just to make sure but did not remove any stickers or wear it out. After really looking at it on me, I did not like how it fit me. I contacted Domen from Monarte to let him know the watch didn't fit me as I would like and wanted to return it for a full refund.
I received a response after some time and he explained that I could return it but that I was responsible for my own return shipping and insurance. Besides that he would not refund the Stripe payment fees either.
Needless to say, I was not happy.
I'm located in the USA and return shipping with insurance is quite expensive plus not refunding the payment fees from Stripe leaves me at a big loss.
