If you need wedding witnesses, honestly just book Paula and Doug ❤️

I'm writing this literally straight after getting home from our wedding today because I was so happy with Paula and Doug and genuinely wanted to leave them a review because they were absolutely amazing. Could not have asked for better people to help us out.

If you've ended up here because you're stressed about finding witnesses, wondering whether hiring professional witnesses will feel strange, or worrying whether they'll actually turn up – please save yourself the stress and just book them. They are 100% worth it.

My husband and I had our legal ceremony today in Halifax. We wanted everything very simple and relaxed, but trying to organise family members as witnesses had turned into an absolute 40 email chain nightmare over dates with the registrar office. Everyone had different work commitments and availability, something that should have been incredibly simple became ridiculously stressful. I didn't even know that professional wedding witnesses existed until I found Paula and Doug and honestly thought, if I'd have known about them from the start it would have saved a LOT of hassle.

Paula and Doug are a lovely retired couple who do this as a retirement job helping couples who need witnesses, and after meeting them today I completely understand why they do it. They're both incredibly sociable, friendly, warm and down to earth. They're the sort of people you can meet for the first time and immediately have a normal conversation with.

From my first email with Paula, communication was brilliant & fast. She was reassuring, friendly and patient with all my messages and questions and I never once felt like I needed to chase anything.

Their reliability was incredible too. Our ceremony was at 11:30am, but rather than risk traffic travelling to Halifax that morning, they actually came up the DAY BEFORE and stayed locally. They were then at the Register Office at around 10:30am, a full hour before our ceremony. After all the stress we'd previously had trying to arrange witnesses, knowing they were already there waiting for us was such a massive relief. Meeting them wasn't awkward in the slightest.

Within minutes the four of us were just chatting and laughing together. My husband is extremely sociable and can ramble for England once he gets going 😂 and they happily listened to all his stories, joked around with us and made us feel completely at ease.

There was no judgement whatsoever about why we didn't have family or friends acting as witnesses. We didn't feel like customers being processed through a service and it certainly didn't feel like we'd hired two random strangers. They genuinely felt like two lovely people who had come along to support us and help us get married.

I actually kept thanking them after the ceremony and telling them to please keep doing this because I don't think they realise just how much stress they're saving people.

There are so many reasons somebody might need independent witnesses. Families can be complicated, people can be estranged, relatives might live far away, people work, some couples have anxiety, some simply want their marriage to be completely private. Whatever your reason is, you shouldn't have to justify it.

You know two kind, reliable people are going to be there, on time, who know exactly what they're doing.

I had spent months worrying about getting everything organised and today ended up being ridiculously easy. We arrived, met Paula and Doug, had a lovely chat and a laugh together, went into the ceremony and got married. No drama, no stress and no awkwardness whatsoever.

I even have a skin issue and there was no judgement about wearing casual clothes for comfort, they made me forget about it in fact with all the lovely chatting!

I've literally only been married a couple of hours while writing this, and one of the first things I wanted to do when I got home was leave them this review because I'm genuinely that ECSTATIC we found them.

So if you're currently sitting there worrying about whether you should book My Wedding Witness: DO IT. They are a legitimate business with HMRC.

Paula and Doug are absolutely lovely people, completely reliable, very easy to get along with and the service is worth every penny. I absolutely would book them again for any friends and family in the future.

Thank you both so much for coming all the way to Halifax for us, for putting us both completely at ease, for listening to W's endless rambling 😂 and most importantly for taking away a huge amount of stress from something that should never have been stressful in the first place.

Please keep doing what you're doing. You're helping people far more than you probably realise. ❤️
