After my turbo blew on holiday and I got a new one fixed by a garage in bridlington at 1200 I returned home and it blew again I took my car here for a full check up the guys where great they fit a turbo in 2 hours checked over the engine and sorted out all my problems for half the cost also provided me with a courtesy car
And details that the first turbo was fitted wrong and that's why it blew again

I left my van here for a head gasket replacement and it turned into one of the worst garage experiences I’ve ever had. I paid almost £1,600 and lost 3 weeks of work (job promised in 3–5 days).

Here’s what I found after collecting my van:

Auxiliary coolant pump was fitted without the clip – a serious risk of coolant loss.

Injectors were badly installed (one leaking, wrong/incomplete clamp inserts), I had to re-fit them myself. If I hadn’t spotted this, it could have led to damage of the brand-new injectors I had just paid for, and in the long run even to engine seizure requiring a full rebuild.

Air intake pipe to the air filter was missing – only returned later after I confronted them (they claimed mine was “broken”).

Exhaust system nuts were left loose.

Brand new auxiliary belt was damaged.

Rubber bonnet damper missing.

Cooling system not bled properly – I had to keep topping up coolant.

No proper test drive – only 5 minutes around the block, which wasn’t enough to reveal coolant leak from the missing clip.

They charged me an extra £90+ for a “new” fuel rail, but fitted a used one instead (the thread wasn’t stripped as they claimed).

At pickup, the auxiliary tensioner was jumping and had to be “fixed” on the spot.

Injectors’ seals and clamps had to be re-cleaned and corrected again.

At the back of the engine, wiring holders and brackets were not re-installed.

On top of all that, when I asked if anything else needed doing, I was told the pistons and rings were “in good condition”. Yet I still have heavy blow-by gases coming out of the oil cap – something they could (and should) have flagged during the engine rebuild. Now I’ll end up having to do that job separately, which could have been solved at the same time.

They later excused the delays by saying their “main engine mechanic was in hospital” – hard to believe for a garage supposedly specialised in Ford engine rebuilds.

What makes this worse is what could have happened if I had just driven the van after their “repair”:

Coolant could have been dumped on the road, leading to engine overheating or complete engine failure.

Loose exhaust fixings could have caused leaks, noise, or even fallen parts.

Poorly fitted injectors could have led to compression loss, fuel leaks, injector failure and serious engine damage.

Instead of a professional rebuild, I got poor workmanship, excuses, and extra charges for used parts. This garage is absolutely not trustworthy and I cannot recommend them to anyone.

Best of both worlds — a phrase many avoid, as it often means ending up with the worst of both instead. But Northwest Engines Rochdale Ltd (NER from here on) have truly achieved it, the care and flexibility of a family-run business, combined with the power and efficiency of a corporate operation.

I had NER perform a timing belt change on my 2013 1L Fiesta in October 2024. I chose them because they offered the best price and had consistently strong independent reviews. The work was completed efficiently, and I was fully satisfied at the time.

Fast forward seven months, and an issue developed with my car, one serious enough that I feared it might be beyond economical repair. With finances tight, I braced for bad news. But I reached out to NER to see if they could help and to my surprise, they made me an extremely generous offer that had my car fully repaired and back on the road just five days after the fault occurred.

I’m deeply grateful. They went above and beyond, kept me informed every step of the way, and treated me with genuine care and fairness. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend NER to anyone looking for a trustworthy, capable garage. They have absolutely earned my business and respect.

I had a wet belt change on my corsa a month ago as I thought it needed doing sooner than later with hearing they can be unpredictable. I had a problem last night as my oil light came on all of a sudden so I checked the oil level and it was fine then when I was done I noticed they hadn't put the engine cover back on. I emailed you guys and rang you the morning after to see if you could fit my engine cover back on and have a check if my car is leaking oil as I suspected it was from the job you completed well i was well and truly proven wrong as the mechanic showed me underneath my car on the ramp it wasn't leaking from sump but infact from my gearbox instead. Thanks very much for solving this issue. I'd recommend you to anyone I know who has engine trouble.

I bought an engine of this company at the end of August to have as a spare as my engine had 28000 miles and new I was gonna need one sooner or later. And at Christmas my original engine died so said at least I have one, but because of Christmas I couldn't get anyone to fit till the new year. But when the mechanic fitted it the water system was pressuring with water coming out of the exhaust and water tank. So phoned this company back to let them know. And they tell me there's nothing they can do.

Very disappointed in the customer service. We have had the car booked in for a head gasket replacement for 2 weeks. This was a vehicle that was desperately needed due to son being isolated and unable to see family over Christmas without it.
Through the staff on switchboard a recovery vehicle was booked to pick the car up. They recommended the recovery by telling me he was a close family friend and had a key to the yard to deliver vehicles. I asked for a quote for the recovery a few times but was never given an answer. I wasn’t given details to contact the guy direct. The recovery vehicle never arrived (due to a puncture) on the date arranged. We were told he would arrive the following morning (Saturday) which he didn’t. On the Monday morning we received no phone call from the recovery or garage as to updates on getting the vehicle to them. Maybe we should have rang but due to being let down we felt they were not reliable any more. However I wrote a review and gave them 1 star. Suddenly we got a phone call from recovery to say he would pick the vehicle up in 1 hour. We rang the garage and they have now refused to do the work due to “me” not ringing them this morning and that I have given them a 1 star review. We had a discussion on the phone when I explained our predicament with our son and his isolation and how we vitally needed the vehicle to which they have still refused to even take the car into the garage to carry out the repairs. Therefore the 1 star is for letting us “a new customer” down just before Christmas and not carrying out the work that had been booked in with them for over 2 weeks.
Wish I had read the other bad reviews as it is the same problem. Poor customer service, poor correspondence.

When my Ford Focus engine seized and I was informed I needed a replacement engine nowhere local could fix it. A friend (mechanic) found Northwest Engines online and felt this would be ok to replace the engine for me. He took it on a flatbed truck to Rochdale and said he thought we had made the right choice. They were set up to only deal with Ford engine eco boost engines. On collection of the car we were dealt with very professionally and everything explained to me regarding treatment of the car and warranty of the engine. I would recommend this company wholeheartedly. Since bringing the car home two local mechanics have looked at the car for its MOT and commented on what a good job had been carried out.

I knew my car was in the best hands from the first phone call I had with this company. My Fiesta was in for the much talked about wet belt replacement. Very fair price considering the labour involved, and I was kept informed throughout. These guys really are ecoboost specialists and you know you’re getting a professional service from start to finish. Not only that, everyone that I had contact with at this company was happy to spend time explaining things/giving advice. Don’t go to Ford, come here instead - you won’t regret it.

Had a wet belt replaced by north west engines. And suffered horrendous service from start to finish I was told they would have my car two days, they had it over a week. They never once rang me to update me I had to do all the chasing up. Then a week later when I rang I was told they had put my car back together but it now had a coolent leak (it wasn’t leaking coolant when it went into north west engines)and they was trying to find it. 24 hours later after me chasing it up yet again I was told my car was ready. When I collected my car I tried to complain and basically they couldn’t care less all they wanted was paying . 6 months down the line and what a surprise my car has a coolant leak that I’ve only just noticed to say I’m not happy is an understatement and they clearly didn’t do what that was paid to do. Not a chance I’d recommend these. And now probably gonna need a new engine.

After having low oil pressure light come on while driving I had to have my focus recovered and struggled finding a garage willing to take on the work due to it being the 1.0 ecoboost engine.
After a tip off from a local garage I rang northwest engines and they were more than happy to take it at short notice so I got it recovered in to them.
Following their assessment they originally recommended a replacement engine but as I was initially going to go through my warranty company they removed my original engine and did a full diagnostic on it. Following the in depth diagnostic they then phoned me to say my engine was ok and just required the bottom end bearings and a new wet belt kit complete with water pump.
Now most garages would’ve just gone straight for the replacement engine so I’m glad I chose northwest engines and they were able to do an in depth diagnostic on my original engine and repair it. It now seems to run a lot smoother than it did before.
They’ve been very upfront and honest with any work that needed doing. They won’t sell you parts you don’t need and they’re extremely reasonable with their prices compared to a lot out there.
I will definitely be returning for my oil changes and servicing as these guys really know the ecoboost engine well.

My 2013 focus needed it's dreaded wet belt changing. After a lot of research, and as its quite a specialised job I decided that Northwest Engines was the company I'd trust to carry out the work. My experience with them from start to finish was excellent. Not only did the change the wet belt and water pump, they also inspected the engine for any other potential issues and highlighted that one of the vacuums was failing along with a hose. The work they have carried out has completely changed how the engine performs. Not only does the oil light go out instantly (was taking 7 seconds to go out previously and is a sign that the oil pickup was blocking with belt debris) the engine is now much quieter when cold. I can recommend Northwest Engines for all your Ford Ecoboost repairs.

Bought a 2013 focus 1.0 ecoboost from these, so first thing they had told my friend who had the car about 3 week since them m.o.t the car that the smell from emissions was the exhaust turned out had 2 cracks in the block. I tried to ask them for help turned out needed 3,000 on reconditioned engine due to the 3,000 i just paid for the car i had no choice to use them to repair the car. Had the car back 2 weeks and it went into limp mode to do with the vacuum pump washer changed twice still keeps going. Then the gear box fell out had to get recovery to a proper ford specialist who has done a report on the car now and northwest engines replaced the engine but never tightened the bolts up from the gearbox to the engine but take no liabilty for the issue as there famous words are we dont work on that side of the engine when it bolts to the engine so we now have ongoing solicitors case going forward as ive had my heavily pregnant partner and step son in the car which probably should never of been on the road when this company has done all the work on this car for the past two years wouldnt recommend at all bodge job just want your money

Great customer service, lovely to deal with 'real' people who knew exactly what had gone wrong with my car, arranged for its collection and had it repaired within days.
Would be my garage of choice for all repairs large or small if I didn't live 60 miles away - totally professional.

I bought a used engine from Northwest engines and had the engine installed by a mechanic near my home address. I had a few issues with the install and luckily I had the team at Northwest engines available on the phone to talk me through things to check and ended up getting the car sorted and back on the road for a really fair price. Highly recommend. I’ve had plenty of negative experiences with garages and this place has been excellent. If I lived nearer would happily never go elsewhere! Thanks to all the team that answered my many calls!

North West Engines were recommended to me around 6 months ago after my RangeRover SVR engine blew. LandRover wanted just under £20,000 to get me back on the road which just wasn’t viable. From start to finish this garage filled me with so much confidence. Despite them no longer working on Landrovers due to how busy they were with the fords they agreed to do an inspection for me to try and help out. After receiving a report and prices I agreed on them stripping down my engine and completely rebuilding it up. Throughout the build I received many images and progress updates which I really appreciated. Around a week later I was back on the road and it ran beautifully. I have just been back today for my 6 month oil change and my car has never driven better. Again faultless service and I can’t express how happy I am. Thank you so much guys (and ladies)
