Excellent advice re query about EICR
I contacted NRLA with a query about landlord's obligation to send copy of EICR to local authority. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and professional and advised me on the exact actions I need to take.

We are sorry you are having difficulties with your landlord.
To clarify, the NRLA is not a landlord or an agent. We are a trade association and provide help and support for landlords.
You can seek advice from Citizens Advice or Shelter.
For complaints about letting agents, you can seek advice from the independent complaints body by contacting the relevant redress scheme or the Property Ombudsman.
Letting agents should be a member of one of:
• The Property Ombudsman
• Property Redress Scheme
You can ask your letting agent which body they belong to or check on the relevant website. If your letting agent isn’t a member of a complaints body you can get help from Citizens Advice.
Deposit Protection Disputes:
If you don't agree that your landlord or agent should have kept all or part of your deposit, or you disagree with some of the costs that they have taken out of it, then you can contact the tenancy deposit protection scheme your landlord, or agent has used, who will offer a free service to help resolve disputes.

Advice line that provides no useful advice
Never found any useful advice from the ‘advice’ service. Just refer you to legal advice as they are not legally trained. Given almost all property questions are going to have a legal or regulation element, what is left that can be actually answered.

A really amazing and helpful…
A really amazing and helpful organisation. As a landlord they are our go to when we are not sure what to do, or need confirmation on a matter. Their advice, support and helpfully library of documentation is such a valuable resource, not to mention the news letters and updates on the changing property rental market.

Totally screwing tenants
My child and friends rented an apartment via openrent. The landlord failed to handover the apartment, citing financial distress and she was forced to sell the apartment to a cash buyer (without the tenancy agreement!!!) She refused to return the 6 months advance rental and 5 weeks deposit paid. My child complaint to NRLA, the reply they got is they act for landlord, not tenants. They do not entertain complaints made by tenants against landlord and asked my child to seek legal advice!

We are sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with the landlord, however The NRLA is not a regulatory body for either landlords or agents, we provide help and support for landlords. We operate a code of conduct for our members to follow however we cannot intervene when it requires the involvement of formal processes, regulatory bodies, or legal matters and this is the reason we provided information and advice of how to correctly proceed with the complaint.
