Quality furniture, ruined by substandard handles; compounded by disinterested and responsibility-dodging customer service

Bought two furniture sets from this company, totaling thousands of dollars (US). The office set is fine (handles are shaped recesses within the wood) But on the bedroom set, the handles are the attached metal kind -made of the cheapest metal imaginable. The buying premise was “solid wood furniture, always made for life”. Their words.

Two of these cheap handles have cracked and fallen off. No abuse, no maltreatment, as the images sent to OFL proved.

I asked if I could buy 2 replacement handles from them (no freebies were requested) the response was condescending, “handles aren't something we sell”.
Then I tried again, explaining that with 2 broken original handles, that leaves me either having to buy 2 mis-matched handles locally, or having to replace all 18 handles. I pointed out that if they’re not in the business of selling handles, maybe they should be in the business of shipping a few pennies worth of replacement handles, considering they already took thousands of dollars of my money.

They replied “I understand… that this is an inconvenience to you as you will have to replace all the handles on your furniture...(etc.) ...will be unable to offer you any further assistance” i.e. understand fully, but don't care.

Initially it was baffling why this company only list phone numbers which cannot be called from overseas. But analyzing their customer-service-dodging responses, it becomes clear that it's a tactic to distance themselves from their own American based customers. Rather like blocking an ex's number.

Therefore not “made for life”. Not by any measure. Essentially they couldn't care less about the American customers they sold to. Don’t expect anything from this company if you encounter problems -they won't even allow you to BUY replacement hardware from them, not even for a product they still make!!!

DONT USE THIS COMPANY!

If I could give this a 0 star I would, my grandma bought a sofa in May in which was delivered wrong and only half was left after waiting 9 weeks. Then had another date of today for the other part to be told one days notice it won't be coming and won't be delivered until January. When going into the store they refused to help as said its customer service. Having a showroom with staff that cannot help and no manger in store. When asking for a refund she got told they need to collect the half sofa before they can refund her leaving her to have to sit on a floor at 75 years old as she will need this money to use to buy a new sofa.

Never experience customer care and service this bad my whole life!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP!!!

I ordered bedroom furniture in 2016 and…

I ordered bedroom furniture in 2016 and have been very pleased. Now and for many months I wanted to order a t. v. table. I understand that due to covid things have gotten much more difficult. My problem has been that the company England is very difficult to contact. There was at least 1 response that they would be contacting my email in about a month---this occurred in May---and I still haven't heard from anyone. I will reiterate that I live in Yonkers, NY USA so it seems that message does not get through. I was given an 800 # but not the way I can call it from the US. I don't call overseas so I am not familiar to how to make this call. I am very frustrated at the poor communication by the company.

Heavy furniture being left on my doorstep without assistance.

I have ordered quite a lot of furniture from this company and paid for delivery into my home. This company has the longest delivery waits I have ever experienced and compared to other companies. Now they are advising that they will no longer enter customers’ homes with their furniture, but will do doorstep deliveries only. I spent half an hour on hold waiting to talk to someone on the phone. When my call was eventually answered,I got nowhere in explaining my situation and asked to speak to a manager and was put on hold again, then was cut off. I was called back and advised that the manager couldn’t help and asked if I wanted to be transferred to their cancellation department to cancel my orders. I have told them that I am a senior living alone and have a disability. They still refuse to have their driver bring this solid oak, heavy furniture into my home and tell me I must find someone to help me or put off my delivery until a future date to a time when they will permit their driver to enter my home or cancel my order. As a new resident in a newly built home I am living without furniture. They are to be delivering the furniture on January 22 (tomorrow) and will leave it on my doorstep. I will attempt to find a couple of workmen from an adjacent building site to move my furniture into my home. I am done with this company! This isn’t the first time I have had to complain about their delivery. I understand COVID restriction problems and adhere to them, but there has to be exceptions according to the circumstances of their customers. I will not be ordering anything from them again.

Never received paid for item

Ordered furniture from this company early April, was told item was to be delivered two weeks later. That is all the information I received. Several months later received e-mail that said company was closed. No further info on my refund since.

Ordered two cabinets in Feb, never got them. ZERO STARS

Ordered two cabinets, charged $1596 for them on Feb 23 2020. I was called by Ryder in NJ to schedule a delivery and did so. Night before they were delivered, Ryder calls and says they're not delivering due to Covid 19. I contacted the company in May, still waiting for the call from Ryder, and they promised to get back to me in a few days as to when it would be delivered. Heard nothing so August 13 I contacted them only to find out they're out of business in the USA. No contact at all about this, and NO REFUNDS are being given. I was advised by their liquidating company to contact my credit card company and ask for a chargeback. I am absolutely disgusted. I was also told they were liquidated in the UK, yet there their website is, open and taking orders. They divested the USA business then shanked everyone that had orders. Why didn't they at least do contactless delivery of all the furniture? My cabinets are sitting in a warehouse and I'll never see them - and it's doubtful I'll ever get a chargeback. WHAT A TOTAL SCAM! Do NOT do business with these people!!!

UPDATE, 8/29/20 Still no word from the liquidators. We can't get a chargeback because it was too long ago, so I am out a total of $1596. I can't stress enough how much of a scam this was. I wish I had better news, but the liquidators said they can't do anything either. Apparently our furniture will sit and rot at a Ryder warehouse here in NJ, OR it's been sold (again) to pay off their debts. It makes no sense whatsoever that all of us who had delivery dates, and had furniture delivered to the States couldn't get it. Covid-19 is NOT an excuse, unless, that is, you're a scammer bent on cheating people. Sickening.

Do not order from this company

Do not order from this company. I ordered a piece of furniture on 4/15/2020 it said delivery was to be 6/10/2020. I know it may take tad longer due to covid. On 7/20/2020 I sent an inquiry as to my purchase. I received an email back saying they would check into it with in 72 hours. Did not hear anything. On 7/27/2020 sent another email. Nothing. On 8/1/2020 sent another asking for a ship date or money back. Still nothing. The company went overseas without anyone knowing. Phone number tells to email. They are crooks who just take your money and will not reply to emails which is only way to communicate. Would not give rating if didn't have too.

unsatisfied customer

I ordered an in stock piece of furniture just before quarantine started and was given a 4- 10 business days estimate of delivery. They took this order while they were secretly going through " reorganization " and for the next two months would not give any updates on order status. Do not waste your time dealing directly with the company they will make no effort to clear up or refund your money. I cancelled my payment through credit card company and got my account credited within a week. I think it was straight up fraudulent to take new orders when status of the company was so uncertain. Visa apparently agreed with me and refunded my money, something oakfurniturland was unwilling to do . Good luck trying to deal with a company that has so little reGuard for their customers, save yourself time and aggravation and let your credit card company fight the fraud for you . Update on Oak Furniture Land USA…

Update on Oak Furniture Land USA Burlington Ma store closed for good . Stores in England purchased by a hedge fund company, I have had some response from them but they are skirting the issue of when or if my furniture will ever be delivered ? Our furniture is still at Ryder Truck Warehouse Boston Ma. Ryder was not aware that Oak Furniture Land had gone out of business and they have no idea of what to do with the fully paid for furniture sitting in their warehouse.I would like to know how many families in Massachusetts this effects ? By the way zero stars.

These people are crooks

Do not order from this company. This company "had been in financial distress for some time" and were still taking orders. Any positive reviews on here are probably fake. I finally received a response. I was billed; did not receive anything; just got the canned e-mail response; and now I find out that they won't refund my money. I was told "Good Luck". This company is a fraud.
File a claim for fraud with your bank or credit card company.

shopping during covid

My wife and I visited the Oak Furnitureland today, in the Birkenhead estate. initially to browse dining room tables. As we entered we were put at ease by staff wearing masks and offering antibacterial hand sanitisers. We looked around at our leisure, and when we needed assistance we were greeted by Marianne Bennett, who could not help us enough, she shared her knowledge of the stock, demonstrated working of extendable tables, and gave us extremely helpful information in relation to payment and delivery. Marianne made this visit extremely easy, which is not easy in these times, and made my wife and I feel comfortable. We have now purchased the dining table , chairs and three other items, and will return in a few weeks to purchase bedroom furniture. Marianne was so helpful and friendly, an absolute pleasure to deal with . Thank you.

Customer service

I am writing this on behalf of my mom, who is not tech savvy. She ordered several pieces of furniture on February 3, 2020 and was notified it had arrived in Richmond, VA. She needs to set up delivery to another city and has emailed Oak Furnitureland repeatedly, with no response. There is a recording when calling the number on the website that goes to a recording, with no way to leave a message. Seems really doubtful she will ever get the furniture that has long ago been paid for.
UPDATE: Oak Furnitureland has been in contact with my mom and she has been updated that the ordered furniture will be delivered as soon as it’s safely able to be done. Thank you for the direct contact! She can’t wait to get your lovely furniture!

Out of Business-DO NOT ORDER ANYTHING

Placed two orders... one on March 29, 2020 and one on April 3, 2020, and by April 6th they took my money out of my account, but, as, of today June 6th, 2020, I have yet to receive my furniture.
Sent an email to customer service on May 4th, May 8th and another one on May 10th. Finally got a reply on May 13, 2020 stating they had to “suspend all deliveries due to COVID-19” and said “we will be in touch with yourself as soon as we have a further update”

**UPDATE** 6/18/2020
I have changed my stars from one to three, for Oak Furniture Land has called me a few times and is working on getting my furniture to me.
Will update again, when furniture is received.

**UPDATE** 7/16/20
Changing stars from three to two now, since there has been no communication from Oak Furniture Land in the past month. And I have NOT received my furniture!

Changed stars from two to one for I just received this email from OFL:
“Due to the unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak, it is with regret that we need to inform you that we are permanently ceasing to trade.

This includes our US website, and our Burlington store, which will be closing.

We have a dedicated email address for all customers that may have queries and we urge all customers to get in touch as per the below details:

Just to give an update to my original post below - we have been contacted by the company. They did offer us a 10% reimbursement to not cancel our order. But another month has gone by with no delivery. We appreciate their communication and discount, but it has still been over 3 months in which we have paid cash up front and received nothing. Doubly frustrating - the product is sitting in a warehouse in our city and we have offered to pick it up ourselves. But because Oak Furnitureland has a hold on the order, the warehouse cannot release it to us. Starting to doubt we will ever receive our bookcase.

would give zero stars if possible. I wonder how many of these reviews are real. We ordered just before quarantine started and were expecting delays of delivery. But now it has been over two months and we cannot get any response or reply. We have called the shipping company and they say all orders are "on hold" but Oak Furnitureland is literally advertising a sale right now?!? Their customer service says to email and they will aim to reply in 72 hours but we have sent multiple emails and gotten zero reply. Of course they took our money at the time of the order, so we have already paid but have no product and no way of getting an update from anyone. I would love to be able to review the actual furniture but we have paid high dollar and received nothing. This company is bull.

Love this company

Love this company, great furniture! Real, solid, hardwood, no MDF or cheap cardboard backings! Prices are affordable, and well worth it. This is the ONLY place I will by furniture now. Finding quality furniture that can be handed down someday at a reasonable price is pretty rare these days, glad I found them.

Sideboard

Needed a new sideboard but I didn't want to to get one that I had to assemble, been there done that. We were fortunate that we could visit the retail store, but I wouldn't hesitate to purchase on line as the quality was first rate. Staff was extremely knowledgeable and didn't rush you, even after we signed the paperwork I saw another one that we kinda liked better and the sales Woman didn't hesitate to do the paperwork over (but we kept our original choice). It was delivered in 5 days and is very well packaged with lots of material to deal with, so if your not capable pay the extra to have delivery people do it as they will place item where you want and remove packaging.
