A gem of a find!
A real gem of a find! This is exactly what it says on the tin and then some!
The accommodation is spotless, welcoming ambience and very well though out with every amenity catered for. We were truly spoilt with flowers, food hamper, cake, eggs, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, butter and then fresh pasties on the morning after our arrival.
This place isn't just dog friendly but dog welcoming, with dog bowls, dog treats, dog toys and the very important poop bags!
The hosts were more than helpful and nothing was too much trouble, even providing some additional maps upon request for where to walk etc.
We cannot recommend this place and the hosts enough. The location was central so 20 to 30 mins drive to north or south Cornwall (9 miles from Padstow) and some lovely beaches. We are lucky to be going back in a few months time with the wider entourage. Can't wait!
Exceeded Expectations Every Day…
In 22 years of 'dog holidays' The Old Barn is without question the best location we have stayed in. Spotlessly clean, exceptionally well equipped, with all the little extras (spices, sauces, dog treats & towels etc), fabulous kitchen with Aga, Nespresso, and immaculate glasses & crockery. Amazing welcome pack, plus hand delivered hot pasties on Day 2!
Stephen and Allen can't do enough to help, but never intrude.
Very comfortable beds, great bathrooms, lovely sitting room with wood burning stove.
Good dog friendly and safe garden, good EV point...nothing left to chance, all extremely well thought out, and presented, these guys really take a pride in their wonderful barn.
Great location, good for Padstow, north and south coasts, good dog walks on the doorstep too.
We hope to return soon.

Highly Recommended
All the previous reviews really says it all, this is a first class holiday let, you will not be disappointed when you stay here.
We were fortunate to stay for a week in early December 2021 and despite having to contend with Storm Barra it did not stop us exploring the magnificent Cornish coastline.
Having stayed at the Old Barn during the summer for a week a few years back we knew exactly what to expect at the Old Barn.
Everywhere was still very well maintained and was spotlessly clean.
The property is first class and has everything you need.
The Welcome hamper as well as the lovely products from the local butchers is such a lovely touch.
For 2 couples with dogs the upstairs and downstairs bedrooms work really well and the dining area is a great place for enjoying home cooking from the fantastic Aga or enjoying Rick Steins take aways.
Sitting in the lounge in the evenings after a day of long walks in front of the log burner was a delight.
While the owners live at the bottom of the lovely garden they are always on hand should you require anything but are most certainly not intrusive.
You will not be disappointed when you stay at the Old Barn, it’s highly recommended.
Wonderful gem
This is one of the best self catering places we have been to, you want for nothing. Everything supplied right down to tiny details. Lovely spotless place. Stephen the owner was very helpful and on hand if we needed anything. The lovely hamper, fruit, cake, bread and breakfast items all went down a treat. The place was all decorated up with an 8 foot Christmas tree which was amazing. Loved the aga. Amazing place and would certainly recommend. Thankyou stephen for everything. Glenn, bev & family and thankyou for the cornish pasties.
Best cottage with the doggies
We have just returned from a wonderful Christmas week at the Old Barn. Having just read all the previous reviews I can totally agree! The best self catering cottage we've stayed in. Stephen and Allen are so kind and welcoming, thinking of everything you need for the most relaxing stay. So many treats when we arrived from a first day's breakfast (sausages, bacon, eggs, bread etc), a cream tea, mulled wine, hamper of Cornish goodies and even fresh Cornish pasties on our first morning. Enough logs provided for our stay even giving us more when we ran out. We are blown away by everything. Wish we had longer as so much more to see and do. Recommend the beautiful waterfalls at Tintagel, Eden project, walk around Port Isaac and Polzeath beach lunch at Rick Steins bistro....wanted to do so much more we'll have to come back in the summer!
Review by Cara Spaniel roving reporter
Review by Cara Spaniel roving reporter, this is the second time that we have been to The Old Barn for our hollibobs, the last time was in the summer 2 years ago. I have to say that it is still absolutely pawsome. After a long journey we arrived after dark but received a warm welcome and were able to have a run in the garden to stretch our paws, Stephen and Allen were there to showed us where to find towels and treats, (They have a cupboard full of stuff just for dogs, so no worries if your humans forget to pack something you need) oh and there was a lovely local food hamper for the humans too but not if I get at the sausages first. Everything was spotlessly clean (something I know the humans worry about a lot at the moment), well at least it was until I left muddy prints across the tiled floor to warm myself by the aga. The large kitchen dinner is great for hanging out in whilst you humans cook in the well-equipped kitchen and there is an added bonus of underfloor heating whist you do a spot a scrounging at the dining table. With the wind and rain blowing outside (well it is November) we retired to the beamed upstairs lounge to snuggle in front of the log burner and plan our trip out the next day. Cornwall is full of supaw places to visit, in winter most of the beaches are dog friendly so if like my Clumber brother you like to catch a wave and practice your doggy paddle you’ll be spoilt for choice. Many attractions are dog friendly too, we visited the Minack Theatre and Tintagel Castle as well as doing some really lovely walks. It was lovely to returneach evening to the warm and homely barn ready to plot our next days adventure.
It’s a dog’s life living her best life
I’m writing a review about Old Barn Tregonetha for my dog Amber: I was so busy describing the decadence we experienced I forgot to mention her holiday.
After a good journey down with a stop at Fingle Bridge, my humans and I arrived in the dark at the cottage.
Wow a great big garden with lots of interesting sniffs and grass to play on with my toys and a path too so I could investigate to the other gate. I couldn’t escape though but I had all I needed here. I think the nice men had some dogs too but they never bothered me. I am scared of fireworks and bark a lot over Bonfire night. So my humans take me on holiday.
Inside the house, I had dog treats: big dog biscuits and I lovely tin bowl for my water. They provided my owners with a lovely soft dog towel as I often get wet feet.
I like playing : the floor of Old Barn was perfect for my bouncy ball and I played everywhere. I was allowed everywhere and I loved the upstairs room and the cosy fire.
I could tell my humans were happy but I was so happy because I went to the beach everyday.
Fistral beach is dog friendly from 1st November to 31st March and the car park is free ( the one by the beach )
In fact many car parks are free over this time. I love Cornwall because I can go everywhere my humans go.
I visited Padstow and went on the ferry to Rock. I went in several places called pubs or places with beer ( St Austell brewery tourist centre ) : I’m only after dog treats and I would often get some.
The Lost Gardens of Heligan were so welcoming of me and I could go everywhere and smell the chickens, goats and pigs. I loved the jungle and the boardwalk there. The restaurant even allowed me in : I love a scone crumb … I’m spoiled.
One day we visited a clay mine museum that was super fun and I loved the woodland walk and going round the exhibits.
So if your owners are thinking about the location of Old Barn it couldn’t be better . You can access the top and bottom of Cornwall because your half way between the two. This means you can dodge the rain !
Oh I forgot, cooked breakfast meant I had a tiny bit of Cornish sausage …yummy
Remind my owners I might need a diet before we go again. You’d be barking mad not to go…
Magical relaxing luxurious Old Barn
How do you write in a few short sentences about how amazing this accommodation is ?
Booking the stay here was a delight and Stephen couldn’t be more amiable by message and over the phone.
Welcome: Steve and Allen were there on our arrival, having put away our Waitrose shop, to guide us through the kitchen provisions and gadgets.
The barn was warm, cosy, sparklingly clean. A sour dough bread, a full cream tea, a lemon drizzle cake, fresh eggs in a basket, a selection of Cornish cheeses, bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms and a bottle of very good wine were some of the luxury extras that had been provided to make our stay that little bit special. Oh and a brimming hamper filled with goodies: biscuits, fudge, jams, chocolate and crisps to name a few items. All top quality local brands I might add.
The larder was also full of staple items like pasta, sauces, oil, herbs spices and sea salt.
We loved the gadgets especially the Lavazza milk frother..
I had to work while we stayed for 7 nights of quiet peaceful nights and the super fast broadband meant I had no connection issues.
Every room was furnished in high quality tasteful items and decor. The linen on the bed, the sofas and the Hypnos beds all added to the unadulterated luxury that this property provides. There’s a unending supply of wood for the easy to light log burner if it’s cold enough as the underfloor heating. The aga keeps the place at a lovely temperature all day. We really enjoyed using the aga but Stephen is at hand if you need help with any of the 5 star appliances.
The bath in the master bedroom is wonderful and opening the drawer in the bathroom there’s even eye makeup remover and cotton wool.
On our first morning at Old Barn we stepped outside onto the balcony to be in awe of the garden( even in November looked gorgeous) and enjoyed a coffee overlooking views of quiet countryside.
Relax ? You can positively melt your cares away here at Old Barn.
In the evening, step out on that balcony and look at the sky: you’ll see a million stars staring back. It’s magical.
We noticed the other touches that made this more than just holiday cottage. The pasties in the morning, the newly planted baskets outside with heather and cyclamen, the anniversary balloon tied to the table and the grand piano available for us to use.
Throughout our stay our hosts touched base by message to see if we needed anything but we were given total privacy throughout the week. We were made to feel completely at ease and so relaxed that we felt like we actually lived here.
Staying at Old Barn is not just a holiday it’s a luxury experience that is literally the best self catering property we have ever had the honour to stay in. We celebrated our 38th Anniversary here and it was more like a honeymoon destination. Value for money ? Absolutely and we are booked to return in 1 years time to celebrate our 39th (at the same price )
Stephen and Allen thank you both for giving above and beyond. We can’t wait to return but I think we may to go on a strict diet before our arrival !! If you haven’t booked your stay: don’t hesitate, you will not regret it.
Comfort combined with super facilities…
Comfort combined with super facilities and tip top cleanliness. Humans and dogs enjoyed the house and garden as well as the location and access to beaches. Hoping to be back. Thank you Stephen and Alan. Good job!
Absolutely superb ! Highly recommended...
Absolutely superb ! Thank you to Stephen and Allen for creating such a wonderful holiday experience for both ourselves and our dogs.
The attention to details is second to non with Treats, bowls and towels even supplied for our four pawed friends, which was very unexpected and appreciated.
We were welcomed with a fabulous hamper filled with Cornish local goodies and culinary delights which was very well received and made our stay just that little bit extra special.
Having stayed in many holiday rentals I can honestly say The Old Barn is just delightful , from the cupboards filled with condiments to the well equipped kitchen including the AGA ( The perfect place to kick back in front of after a long blustery coastal walk !) , even a pint of milk and sourdough bread was readily supplied .
The dogs had plenty of space to run around in the secure garden , which meant we could relax whilst they pottered about. I just wish the weather had allowed us to enjoy the garden but instead we got to enjoy the sitting room with its wonderful log burner and far reaching views …..
Immaculately clean and totally relaxing, everything in the Old Barn has undoubtedly achieved a comfort level many 5* hotels don’t !
We can’t wait to return and will definitely be booking again soon – thank you Stephen and Allen for being such super hosts, we couldn’t recommend more highly !!
Happy half term
We spent a lovely week at the Old Barn in October. Stephen and Allen were the perfect hosts, and left a large array of goodies for us to enjoy during our stay. The general decor and standard of accommodation was great, and we very much enjoyed having a wood burning stove to keep cosy in the evenings (as well as watching films on a large screen!). It was also nice that our dog was made so welcome. The garden is beautiful, and if the weather had been better, we would have enjoyed the views sitting out. It felt a very comfortable and homely relaxing place, and we will just have to come back!
The perfect getaway
Peaceful, secluded, panoramic views, stunning sunsets, all the comfort, style and luxury of a five star hotel down to the minutest detail carefully observed together with the warmth and feel of a family welcome from our two hosts.
Why wouldn’t you book a holiday at the Old Barn, better still return time and time again just as we have?

Having recently returned from a five…
Having recently returned from a five day break I have taken my time to write this review because there is so much to say, in a hugely positive light. I stayed at Old Barn at the end of September ..... the barn is fantastic - to say home from home is doing the barn a disservice - it is like going to a “wish list” holiday property, if you had one. This gem has everything, fabulous fitted kitchen with an electric aga (cooking a pleasure - just put everything in the aga oven), the welcome hamper had so much you won’t need to shop for a few days and all the essentials oils/herbs are in the pull out larder. The living room on the first floor is so relaxing and has a lovely view of the garden together with a Juliet balcony and the configuration of the property gives a lot of privacy as the two main bedrooms are on different floors. The welcome by Stephen and Alan is second to none plus if you need anything you only have to ask! We loved the freshly picked delivery of mushrooms on two occasions by Alan. We had a ball and whilst we were there with wet weather, the luxury of the house made up for that. There are lots of lovely places to visit, a great butchers in St Columb and fabulous walks along smaller beaches which are very local. I can only imagine how fantastic it must be in the summer months when use of that fantastic garden must be delightful. Thank you so much Stephen and Alan.

An excellent stay despite the weather
We had an excellent stay here and really enjoyed the extras. This has all the home comforts. The fact that the kitchen is well equipped with utensils, condiments and sauces meant we could have left at least two bags at home. Steven was on hand to provide recommendations and assistance if needed as well as replenishing the stocks. Even the internet was fast so you can comfortabley watch catch up TV on the iPad. There is a lovely secure garden for the dog to roam free and have chat with the owner's own dogs. I would recommend this even if the sun doesn't shine, you will have a relaxing time.

The best self-catering stay ever!
The Old Barn Tregonetha is undoubtedly the best self-catering holiday accommodation I ever stayed in! Stephen and Alan are amazing hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The barn is not only very beautifully decorated, but every appliance or utensil you may need is supplied. The amazing welcome hamper and Cornish goodies kept us and the dogs going for most of our stay! I will definitely come back!

Perfect family & dog retreat
Looking for a week-long Cornish holiday for a family of four and a small dog, the Old Barn has been an amazing find! Beautiful location in a peaceful village, close to many gorgeous beaches on both the North and South coast of Cornwall. The barn itself is beautifully restored and decorated, facilities are clean and practical. Stephen is kind and welcoming - full marks for customer service from the day we booked, to the day we arrived, during our stay and after we've left! Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
Just returned from a lovely stay at The…
Just returned from a lovely stay at The Old Barn. Facilities excellent and beautifully clean. Very well placed for exploring both the North and South coastlines, but away from the maddening crowds of nearby Padstow (a ten minute drive away). Visiting in Covid Summer holidays, we would strongly recommend booking all excursions/meals beforehand to avoid long queues and full restaurants - a particular favourite of ours was the St Kew Inn. Hosts at the barn were excellent; attentive yet unintrusive and nothing too much trouble for them. Would not hesitate to return and recommend.
A bit of Cornish paradise
Well, what an impression the old barn left on us! From contact with Stephen when we made our booking earlier in the year to the follow up email thanking us for our stay, everything has just been beyond wonderful.
The old barn is in a gorgeous location, very peaceful but perfectly located to explore surrounding areas such as Padstow, Newquay and St Austell. We chose this location as we became Tesla owners last year and were unsure how we would manage with the EV charging network in Cornwall. As the old barn provided charging for EVs this took away any concerns and we were able to explore Cornwall as much as we wanted.
We felt spoilt by the welcome hamper, supplies for a full English and continental breakfast (including the all important bottle of fresh milk!) and then a delivery of delicious Cornish pasties the following day (Peter Morris butchers in St Columb have left such an impression on us we just had to visit ourselves for more!)
The barn utilities were fantastic, Allen kindly gave us a quick “how to” with the Aga and dishwasher that got us on our way. Being able to use the laundry facilities in the en suite made things so much easier for myself with the 3 kids in tow.
A little manual with recommendations helped get us on our way as well which was so helpful as the area was completely new to us.
Old barn was so much more than just a base, it was an experience of luxury; from sitting on the balcony with a cuppa in the morning, to a soak in the heavenly en suite bath in the evening. It was a joy to be there and we will be drawn back very soon- this time with our cockapoo in tow as everywhere was so dog friendly.
Stephen and Allen are without a doubt the hosts with the mosts, their love of the old barn and the experience set up for their guests go beyond anything you would expect. Thank you both for making our first family trip to Cornwall so wonderful!
Amazing - everything we wished for and more....
We have just had four lovely days staying at the Old Barn. Our experience started at the time of booking - Stephen was so thoughtful and passionate about us having an enjoyable stay. The Old Barn was in great location and ideally situated to access the beautiful costs and idyllic towns.
The hamper on arrival was unexpected and it was delightful to be left local produce and nice treats. The sausages, gin and pasties were amazing.
The Old Barn has everything you need, fantastic beds, lovely gardens, well equipped kitchen and lots of special touches like fresh flowers and candles.
It is hard to get five star accommodation and great hospitality for such a good price.
We will definitely be back!

Beautiful house and wonderful welcome!
The Old Barn, Tregonetha, is the perfect holiday home. The house is beautifully designed for comfort and relaxation and the welcome goodies were AMAZING! Such a lovely way to start a holiday! Stephen and Allen could not have been kinder or more welcoming. We loved the gorgeous garden, the lovely views, and the peace and quiet. Tregonetha is also a very good base for exploring both south and north coasts of Cornwall. We wished we could have stayed so much longer and can't wait to return. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
