Poor workmanship
Poor workmanship, dishonest and a complete lack of integrity. OX Property Services left the installation of our boiler incomplete, non-compliant and out of spec, thus rendering the manufacturer’s warranty invalid.
It cost us £1500 with another company to bring the installation up to spec. They agreed to pay for the remedial work to but never did and stopped responding to attempts to make contact. They have since refused to come to any sort of agreement through Checkatrade’s mediation process.
There were a few problems during installation. The thermostatic radiator valves that we asked them to install leaked causing damage to furniture. Dave did come out to fix the problem and (eventually) paid for the replacement of the furniture after some back and forth where he blamed the manufacturer. However, on inspection it appears that the compression joints on the TRVs had been overtightened…. with a set of mole grips or similar distorting the pipe, preventing a seal.
We also had issues with the boiler condensate pipe which had been installed incorrectly, pouring the acidic condensate out down the side of the house and onto the patio. I contacted the boiler manufacturer who confirmed that this did not meet their installation guidelines. I contacted Dave and asked him to come and rectify the issues, giving clear instructions on how I wanted it rectified. He turned up and ran a pipe which was not of the correct diameter onto our flat roof where it would have caused damage long term had it been left, rather than into a drain as per specifications.
After failing to rectify this issue on the first attempt and the issues with leaks I decided not to have them back and decided to get the installation checked by another gas installer who identified 5 other separate issues including dangerous electrical work with live cables exposed, pressure relief valves not connected properly, gas pressure drops exceeding the permitted levels and a gas supply pipe of the incorrect diameter which had also been crushed using the press fit fittings with a high potential for leaking and failure.
It should not take the customer to point these issues out to a tradesperson who you expect to be able to trust to complete work to the expected standard.
