I have had 3 PPTF adoptees since 2020, and cannot recommend the charity highly enough! The support, from day one until the day your dog breaks your heart is second to none! How do you say thank you to a rescue that introduced you to your best friend? Well, you go back to them when you need rescuing by another beautiful soul that needs a home, and allow your friend to leave a safe, warm home as his legacy.

Adopting Oskar

We got our dog Oskar from pawprints to freedom about 18 months ago. They were extremely thorough with the checks they did on us and our home with the adoption process even wanting a video walk around our home and garden and ensuring the garden fences were high enough to make sure our dog would be safe. Tegan was so helpful answering any questions we had about adopting and when everything went through found us the perfect dog in Oskar. He's the best most well behaved dog we could wish for which is also down to his foster carer Jay putting so much time, care and excellent training into him. We highly recommend pawprints to freedom to anyone thinking of a getting a dog. They are an amazing charity who provide lifetime follow ups and check in with us, we also send pictures to them on our dogs personal whats app group, they genuinely care about the dogs they rescue.

October/November 2024

I had a very thorough and comprehensive check, but from the very start it was positive and helpful. PPTF should feel proud of their volunteers. Both My homechecker, Jane and admin, Kathy, were fabulous and gave me all the information and help needed.
I've had rescue dogs for over 30 years from this country and honestly I could have been anyone picking up a dog. PPTF do all they can to ensure the right fit or indeed that you are a solid person taking on a pooch that needs a different approach to others.
I applaud the volunteers as it can be a thankless task at times but hopefully a rewarding one to.
I did leave a review in 2024 but can't find it now.
Forever grateful for my beautiful Daysi. 💝

I have been with pawprints for 3 years…

I have been with pawprints for 3 years I've always had someone to talk to re the dogs. I have one failed foster phoebe who I adopted and Harley who I adopted but I have fostered 13 dogs most are adopted apart from the last 2 pups I have now. I have always been matched with the dogs to suit our house. Someone at the end of the phone at all times, updates re enquiries on the foster dogs and I'm sure I'll end up with more fosters and failed foster

I am currently fostering through PP2F

I am currently fostering through them. Their home check and application is thorough, but so it should be. The information they provide prior to the dog’s arrival is very informative and helped me feel supported to take on a shelter dog. They created a group so that when the ‘Happy Bus’ left Romania we would get lots of update, which was lovely. And it’s great to share each other’s journey’s with our new additions.
I am SO glad PP2F, exist so that I could help get this lovely boy out of the shelter. Without this amazing charity and all the volunteers, he would still be there languishing in a dark, cold, concrete kennel. They literally change the lives of so many dogs destined for a life of misery, or worse.
It’s a privilege to help rehabilitate this poor soul, and I also have a WhatsApp group of volunteers if I ever need advice or guidance.
Thank you for all you do… and thank you on behalf of Kuro too :)

I has the privilege of fostering…

. I had the privilege of fostering Astor for 6 weeks, a dog from Romania. She's a mixed.collie who has alot of skittish problems. I had to give her up to another fosterer ,actually one of the Trustees. It broke my heart, but I had to do what was best for Astor.
I also help list Auction Items.

I know how hard this group work, they go to huge lengths to get these rescue dogs homed.
So negative comments really don't help.
Thankyou for letting me be part of this amazing group, and when it's right I will foster or adopt again.

We've recently adopted Puffin through…

We've recently adopted Puffin through Pawprints to freedom and the whole process has been easy from start to finish. We saw Puffin's photo appear on their facebook page, we weren't actively looking for a dog at the time, but immediately fell in love with this little black and tan girl so applied. Even better, she was already in England and half hour down the road. Tegan helped us from the very beginning and was absolutely amazing with all the support she offered us. We needed to do a few meets as we already had a rescue dog, who could be quite picky with other dogs, so wanted to do it carefully. The girls at the kennels were amazing and introductions went brilliantly. We're now 2 months down the line since bringing Puffin home and our 12 year old Kelpie has got her spark back with her new little sister and my peace is absolutely shattered!! Thank you pawprints 2 freedom and especially Tegan for letting us rehome Puffin, she has fitted into lives better than we could ever have imagined!! If anyone is looking for a rescue, I would highly recommend them!!

Wow what a fantastic rescue

Wow what a fantastic rescue, i applied to foster which was just a form to fill in, admin then contacted me discussed certain things to match me with the right dog. Had homecheck which again was straightforward so it was all systems go. Elmo arrived at 3.10am at my door all the way from Romania and 100% spot on with the match as it wasn't long before i adopted him. Tried fostering twice after and failed so adopted them also. Everyone at pptf put their heart and soul into finding these dogs their forever homes. Each and every volunteer give their all to this rescue and i have nothing but admiration and respect for them. Looking for a rescue dog? Go to pptf you won't be disappointed. 🐾🥰

I would just like to say that we have had nothing but positive experiences with this charity for our previous dog. Unfortunately he passed away earlier this year. We have returned to them again for our next two dogs. Everyone has acted very professionally and helpful every time we have dealt with them. The volunteers really work hard to care for, nurture and place dogs in loving homes.

Positive experience with this charity

We rescued our Romanian dog five weeks ago from this charity. They have been brilliant from start to finish. Yes, the process takes quite awhile, but I believe it’s because they are doing everything thoroughly, and obviously they are all volunteers working around their regular full-time jobs, so you need to be patient and trust the process.
The organisation of bringing the dogs over is absolutely brilliant, we were kept fully informed all the way. We then have a personal admin to refer to for advice once the dog arrived.
We followed their advice completely for the first 48 hours of her arriving and it worked perfectly . She is naturally a nervous dog and we have to work through new situations calmly with her, but she’s very gentle very loving, adores people and has very quickly become house trained.
We love her so much and are very grateful to Pawprints to freedom for everything they have done to support us .

Two faced and stupid

So I made the big mistake of trying to adopt from this "rescue" I was going to take on a blind lad, after having over ten years of exp with blind dogs and how to care for them.
I made the mistake of trying to adopt from this place, first person I spoke with was ok,but then it all went downhill, first and the most ridiculous thing, they want to charge £20 to do a home check for which I did all the work,no other rescue I've ever used has done this, but ok.

I sent photos and short videos,I many years back converted and fenced off half my kitchen for my other blind dogs, as a place of safety and retreat for them,I have a small bedroom which,if they ever wanted they can come and stay on the double bed, along with a reasonable sized, fenced off garden.

After waiting for yet another person to come back to me,who never did! this joke of a place made the poorest excuse ever,I never had enough room!! ermm I have a big area of my kitchen fenced off,as well as the frontroom, sohow they can justify this is beyond anyones intelligence, now this is wherethey show their trueside.

After I had a go at them as their excuse really angered me,I found they had a personal go at me on their fb page! showing how really nasty and unfriendly they really are, just shows that they have no care for the animals and have just cost a blind dog a loving home.

Avoid this joke of a "rescue" they are nasty, unfeeling, uncaring and very low in the intellegence dept, this is the reason why people don't go to rescue anymore, this place gives a bad name to the few remaining places that do truly care.

Resposta da Pawprints to Freedom

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you felt disappointed by your experience.

We would like to clarify that all of our adoption decisions are made with the best interests of each individual dog in mind. This includes careful assessment of home environments, specific needs, and long-term suitability. While we appreciate your experience and the effort you made in providing information, not all applications will be approved, and these decisions are never made lightly.

Regarding our processes, including home checks and associated contributions, these are standard safeguarding measures that help ensure we can continue operating responsibly while prioritising the welfare of the animals in our care.
We are particularly concerned by some of the language used in your response to your admin, a volunteer. Our rescue is run by dedicated volunteers who give their time freely and work under often challenging circumstances. They are committed to maintaining a professional, respectful standard in all interactions, and we expect the same level of courtesy in return. Personal insults or aggressive behaviour towards our team are not acceptable and make constructive communication very difficult. There is an appeals process that could have been followed had you been more professional and constructive in your response.

We understand that not being approved can be frustrating, especially when you feel passionate about offering a home. However, our responsibility is always to act in the best interest of the dogs.

We wish you all the best moving forward and thank you again for your interest in rescue

5* - amazing as long as you are willing to put the work in!

We rescued our dog Frankie from PPTF in Feb 2026 when he was 7 months old - our first dog as a couple and both of our first Romanian rescue. He was transported from the shelter in Romania to straight to our home, and the driver brought him inside and placed him in the safe place we’d sent up in our living room.
A few days after applying, we were allocated to admin Martine who was so helpful and friendly - not only did she provide us with all the information we needed and took us through the process, it really felt like she genuinely wanted us to succeed in our application and find the right dog. The home checker was similarly helpful and friendly, as well as providing us with lots of information and what to expect.

Some people say the homecheck/application questions are too intrusive, but given the amount of dogs that are returned for ridiculous reasons and the hardships/needs of some of these dogs, I think they are 100% right to thoroughly vet anyone wanting to adopt/foster a dog. Adopting/fostering a Romanian rescue can be difficult and you need to put in the work. Many won’t be house trained, may be destructive or have separation anxiety or other difficult behaviours - but they are also loving, loyal, and its so rewarding to see them improve and their personalities come out with time, trust, and confidence. It’s also so worth it to give a safe, loving home to a dog who really needs it. The rescue team care so deeply for all of the dogs in their care, it’s only right they make sure any prospective adopters/fosterers meet the requirements to give the dogs the best chance possible.

Some people also complain about the adoption fee, however the rescue explain on their Facebook that this barely covers the costs of vaccinations/travel requirements, neutering etc, and they explained they make no money from the adoption fees. While I understand this is a lot of money for some people, if you can afford it, it’s completely worth it in my opinion. They also have dogs available for adoption by donation (min £50), and there is no fee for fostering.
We found the application/homecheck process and adoption fee to all be completely reasonable and were more than happy to proceed.

Without PPTF we wouldn’t have our lovely boy Frankie who has settled in amazingly considering his age and where he’s come from - which I believe is due to the thorough homecheck process, us being matched to a dog that suited our home/lifestyle, and the fact we followed the in depth guidance we were given by the team.

When we are in a position to take on a 2nd dog, we 100% plan to do this through PPTF again!

My honest experience

Apologies- this is long- but its also honest.

This is a fair warning to anyone thinking of rehoming an animal through this charity- if you or your loved ones have disabilities or differences- think twice before mentioning details of them as they may use them against you to turn you down- even if they have no relevance to your suitability to adopt.

Also, be aware that children are expected to be part of the vetting process from day one- even if there are initial compatibility worries around them- potentially leading to upset.

The volunteers I spoke to were genuinely helpful and lovely. When working with them, they informed us they felt we were a good fit- in fact one said they'd be recommending us for approval and was genuinely shocked we were rejected. Unfortunately, it was others who had never spoken with my family who made the final decision.
Our home conditions were not an issue- we have ample space, experience, time and love... however my children have disabilities that they felt were incompatible with our desire to adopt. My adult son has tourettes (so he will occasionally tic loudly- but has NEVER hurt anybody) My daughter has ASD related emetaphobia- severe sickness phobia. I requested a dog that is not known to frequently suffer severely with sickness or an extremely timid, anxious animal.
I understand animals will all be anxious and be sick at some point- just like people, its a fact of life- but my daughter's phobia- directly linked to her autistic profile- apparently meant we were unsuitable? I was genuinely shocked. My children's needs are significant but when faced with challenges we deal with them... the judgement, assumptions made and plain ignorance surrounding the decision astound me. I never said a dog that's never going to be nervous! I said a timid or severely anxious dog may be frightened by a sudden tic so we would be better suited to a more confident dog- the reward for my honestly? I was refused the chance to adopt or foster ANY dog.
The people making these decisions should educate themselves on neurodivergence before using these presentations as a reason for refusal. No dog would ever be homed on the basis of hundreds of 'what if?' Scenarios, they're not helpful.
Animals will spend longer in kennels because loving families are dismissed as unsuitable for ridiculous reasons. We've had dogs for many, many years and our neurodivergences have NEVER impacted our ability to offer a loving home to an animal.
Judgemental, discriminatory and wrong.

I appreciate there needs to be a vetting process and it needs to be thorough- it's the very least these animals deserve and we spent a long time going through the process- answering the same irrelevant questions multiple times to different people but completely understand the need to be meticulous, yet the reasons given for rejection were never clarified. Had we'd been unsuccessful due to a legitimate reason, whilst we would have been disappointed, we would have accepted it much easier. The fact it's based on assumptions made by people who didn't even have the courtesy to have a conversation to clarify important issues (important enough to reject the application)are deeply upsetting.
Autism and Tourettes are recognised disabilities under multiple legislative protections and as such they are protected characteristics making their decision- based on these unrelated conditions- discriminatory.
Had i known their attitude towards disabilities i would have avoided this charity- if you're in a similar situation then think twice to save yourself the potential heartache.

I know they'll likely respond- they tend to, to negative reviews. I have no doubt they'll try to justify their decision, they may even embellish it, i have receipts so I'm not concerned about that.
I'm not leaving this review for the charity. I'm leaving an honest and open review to anyone who may be in a similar position to give them fair warning.
I'm not trying to stir things up, i know many others are happy with the service provided to them and have left reviews stating as much (many after a direct FB promlt to do so.) Genuinely, im pleased so many dogs have been afforded their happy ending.
Just be mindful... weigh everything up before making the application. I hope the dogs all find loving homes. Sadly I feel the process in deciding who is deemed worthy of adopting an animal via this charity are flawed and accountability is important
