Legit? Probably not.

Beware of Pay1040
Beware of Pay1040. IRS site says they charge 1.75% for credit card fees but if you use your PayPal credit card they treat that like a commercial card at the 2.89%. Clearly a bait and switch tactic as the other IRS credit card processor shows a fee of 1.85% however that processor actually charges 1.85% for PayPal tax payments. Buyer Beware for sure.
Worst ever do not use go directly to…
Worst ever do not use go directly to irs.gov I paid my taxes in full on 10/6/25 I’m getting letters from irs stating no payment received as of 1/5/26 DO NOT USE
Charged 2.89% instead of 1.75%
Charged me 2.89% [Paying by commercial credit or debit card] instead of 1.75%.
I paid with my Chase Freedom credit card --- a personal credit card.
They did show me the fees, but I didn't use my calculator and clicked 'OK'. My mistake.
Don't be a fool like me.
ACI Payments charged me 1.85% which is the fee for using personal credit card.
Absolute worse service I have ever…
Absolute worse service I have ever experienced! No customer service and messed up my tax payment
Terrible, user-unfriendly, can't schedule estimated payments in advance
Confusing, user-unfriendly website. It allows scheduling only ONE single future payment, and only for current year balance. Estimated payments cannot be scheduled in advance (which should be a must of any payment system). You have to enter all personal info, address, email, phone, DOB, SSN, etc. for every single payment, as the site doesn't retain this information (it only retains your credit card info). If you have a problem, online messaging is useless - they just tell you to call.
It's an absolute shame the IRS partners with this company.
They charge an outrageous amount to…Double do it
They charge an outrageous amount to process your payment. It is in the fine print but, you would never see it. Rip off.
Tried to simply pay off my remaining…
Tried to simply pay off my remaining balance on a payment plan. This page led me to a number with some idiot blasting off different instructions every five seconds, with none of them having anything to do with what I was trying to seek information about. When I tried to write in the provided "contact us" page, the box demanded that I put in 500 characters and then didn't allow me to submit anyway. During Covid, I became completely solvent and my payment was lost and when I showed the IRS a cancelled check for the exact amount I was told "Oh, that was for the year before." Right. The exact same amount. My tax guy said, "Just pay it. It's Covid and they are making a lot of mistakes." So I did and that didn't work. Try calling the IRS to try and straighten that out. I'm just trying to get this nonsense behind me, but they seem to not want to explain a way to pay my stupid tiny balance and move on with my life. And this site is no help with that at all.
Don't risk your IRS payment
Don't use this provider unless you can afford to lose your IRS payment. They took over a thousand pounds from my bank account and wouldn't confirm receipt of the money or forward it to the IRS. Their phone support staff make useless assurances to get you off the phone but there is no follow through. They also ignore written communications. My friend used them and her payment went through successfully, so whether or not you are scammed is a gamble. I notified my bank's fraud department and they filed a dispute against Pay1040. UK banks are obligated to refund money lost to scams, so I got my money back that way. Credit card providers will do likewise.
My ID me balance was supposed to be…
My ID me balance was supposed to be paid out via Pay1040 by the authorities in the USA. I've been waiting for the payout since April 16, 2025. The financial regulatory authorities in the USA are no longer functioning! There's no help from the responsible authorities. The authorities only respond with standard emails or don't respond at all.
Absolutely the worst
Absolutely the worst. No customer service whatsoever. IRS screws us again! Do not use this system!!
Shameful- completely indadequate
It has to be the worst system. The website is a disaster - nonfunctional for anything other than making an immediate payment. The phone system is even worst. There is no one home.
Scammed out of $5,087.50!! No record of payment in IRS.gov
I made an IRS payment of $5,000 with my credit card through Pay1040.com on 4/12/25. Thank God I took a screenshot of the confirmation, even though I doubt it will help me. It is 5/18/25 today. I logged into IRS and they do not show my payment. I tried to log into my Pay1040.com account and they said for security purposes, starting in 2025, existing users need to create a new account with the same email address so that will link with our prior payment history. I did that and it shows ZERO payments. I am livid!! Our accounting gave us a link to make payments and I chose this one so I could use a credit card. What a scam!!! DO NOT USE THIS WEBSITE!! Has anyone gotten their money back??
Big BS don't use this service
A second unauthorized payment to the Dept of Treasury was made with my cc via Pay 1040. I don't know how they got my information , maybe from the Dept of Treasury I don't know because it's impossible to get through to the Dept of Treasury. The system is broken. I tried to get Pay 1040 to reverse the unauthorized payment because it was an overpayment amount for my taxes as well as being unauthorized but they said they could not help. i ended up having to dispute this amount with my cc company.
I used pay1040 this year
I used pay1040 this year, it was new to me and slightly scary, but then I realized the IRS must trust this service and get taxpayers’ money from pay1040 or IRS won’t use them anymore. The most nerve wracking part was not seeing the money I gave pay1040 on my IRS online account for about a week, which is normal as stated in their payment confirmation. My bank showed “US treasury” as the transaction instead of “pay1040”, I felt that was reassuring, because the government was getting my money and pay1040 was only getting a processing fee. I’m only giving this service a 4 rating, because I didn’t get an email notification when I give pay1040 my money, I saved the payment confirmation page as a pdf because I had a feeling this issue could happen. Anyways I want to get on trust pilot and give an honest review on this service.

WARNING*****I paid my taxes through Pay 1040 on March 25th 2025. As of today, April 25, 2025the IRS has yet to receive my payment. They are now adding late charges!!
NEVER USE THIS WEBSITE!!!!
This is a scam
This is a scam. They have no one to talk to, only a form THAT DOES NOT WORK. I would never use them. If you have a problem with them you're on your own. I wish they will call me on this so I can talk to them and give them some advise. Do not do business with them, go directly to IRS.com to make your payment.
Avoid Pay1040!!!!!!!
I thought I was using the Intuit/Turbo Tax site but found out later it was this site. Pay1040 charged me over $268. Avoid the company like the plague.

Used Pay1040 to send in a payment for the IRS. Tried paying with PayPal but their website errored out and didn't give me a receipt. The customer service is horrendous. Took about 4 emails and a phone call to get them to confirm my payment and get a receipt. DO NOT USE PAY1040 !!!!!!! God knows how long it will take to get a credit with the feds. Don't walk from Pay 1040----RUN!!!!!!!! The government should be ashamed of this payment service and Elon Musk run his own.
