Ongoing nightmare with ECO4 installation – months later and still not resolved
I am absolutely appalled by my experience with Pennine Renewables under the ECO4 scheme. From the very beginning, the project has been chaotic, stressful, and completely unacceptable — and months later, many issues are still unresolved despite countless attempts to get them sorted.
The biggest issue started when they left one of my windows completely exposed to the outside for three weeks — while I have three small children in the house.
Because of this, I had to keep the heating on constantly, and my gas bill shot up from £24.63 (over 3 months) to £181.76 over the exposed period. When I complained, they eventually gave me two tiny electric heaters that didn’t heat the rooms properly, meaning they had to be left on constantly. My electric bill jumped from £148.58 to £421.65 — especially after they removed all radiators around the property for a couple of weeks.
Pennine assured me they would reimburse the additional energy costs once the project was finished. The work was marked as finished in December, yet I still haven’t received a penny.
And unfortunately, this is only one part of the experience.
List of unresolved problems still outstanding:
A large hole left in my wall which wasn’t there before work started – still ignored even after multiple promises to return.
Window ledges replaced with thin MDF, completely unsuitable and not like the original.
Carpets left loose, lifting and moving, with treads not put back properly.
Small holes left in my bay wall from removed radiators.
Shoddy plastering with gaps and visible patches throughout the house.
Living room window ledge cut badly, uneven and nothing like before.
ASHP giving repeated error codes (E919) — 10 times in the past month — and still nobody has come out to fix it despite being told they would.
Hot water supply extremely poor since installation. Three showers in a row leave us with no hot water, meaning my children often cannot shower.
Skirting boards left unsecured and some patched up poorly.
My brand new hoover was used by their workers, leaving the warranty void due to misuse. They said they would replace it — still waiting.
Coving removed and not replaced, leaving half showing and half boarded up.
Hole left in my daughter’s room after removing skirting.
Steps left in walls that I never approved.
Virgin broadband box removed from its original wall fitting and now left hanging loose.
My daughter’s bed was damaged, forcing me to buy a replacement myself. No apology, no offer to cover costs.
Window ledge in daughter’s room now lower, exposing the bottom of the window frame and causing draughts.
Rubbish left in the front garden at the end of the job.
None of these issues were present before the work started. For a company operating under a government-backed scheme and advertising themselves as “trusted” and “reliable,” I expected far better. Instead, my home has been left in a worse condition than before, and I’m still chasing them months later.
This entire experience has been stressful, disruptive, expensive and deeply disappointing. I would strongly caution anyone considering Pennine Renewables for ECO4 work based on what I’ve been through. I just want the issues fixed to the standard promised and the energy costs reimbursed, as they assured me they would
