I instructed Raydens Limited trading as Rayden Solicitors (Hampstead branch) for a family law matter in September 2025, and my experience was extremely poor and disappointing, both in terms of competence and billing practices.
In my experience, the firm did not have a proper grasp of basic family procedural rules. On a jurisdiction dispute, I do not believe they appreciated that expert opinion on foreign law was required. Separately, they wrongly advised me on procedural requirements resulting in adverse costs made against me.
Applications were, in my experience, prepared from templates without proper consideration of the actual facts of my case. I was also encouraged to pursue costly, high-risk injunctive applications which, in my view, served to escalate their own fees rather than my interests.
On costs: I was given a low initial estimate at the outset, which then rose sharply and repeatedly as the matter progressed, well beyond what was originally quoted at engagement. I was repeatedly asked for further money on account, with the suggestion that work would stop if I did not pay. I was never given a clear breakdown of how fees were allocated across the work done, and overall I experienced a real lack of transparency about costs and about what was actually in my best interests. Counsel appeared to be relied on for almost every point of substance, which left me questioning the firm's own expertise.
I was fortunate enough to disinstruct them after only one month of engagement, but by that point I was already down circa £12,000, having been issued three separate bills within that single month, with a further circa £11,000 then demanded on top for no substantive piece of work to show for it.
When I raised concerns or disagreed with their bills or advice, in my experience they did not engage constructively with the substance of what I was raising. Instead, despite my having a genuine and detailed dispute over their bills and time charges, the firm has aggressively pursued a money claim against me for the disputed sum rather than addressing my concerns directly.
Based on my own experience and that of other reviewers, I would describe this firm as predatory litigators, and I would strongly recommend avoiding them — particularly the Hampstead branch. I have submitted a formal report to the SRA, and would encourage any other former clients who feel they have experienced similar conduct to do the same.
I would recommend staying away from this firm at all costs, as you might end up fighting your own lawyers as opposed to them acting in your best interests whilst navigating through difficult times. They have shown no sympathy or care for their client at all — they are aggressive litigators and money-oriented solicitors who take advantage of a client's vulnerability during difficult and challenging personal times.

I cannot overexpress my gratitude and respect for everyone who handled my case at Raydens. My divorce was extremely painful, unneccessarily hostile and there appeared to be no regard for costs coming from the other side. Added to this, I was suffering from serious health issues. Georgina, Nicola and Shefali showed me sensitivity, professionalism and created calm spaces in which I could comprehend the real implications of events around me, and set a strategy to understand what success could look like for myself and my children. They were sensitive to my financial condition and were not cowed by repeated attempts to escalate by the other side.
I fully recommend the practice for any one in need of calm, caring, steadfast, professional, and ethical stewardship through what can be an unforgiving, tumultuous, bitter life experience.

I came to Raydens seeking a non-molestation order and child arrangements. My case was very complex and sensitive and while I know all family law matters must be stressful, this was truly exceptionally stressful, with many curveballs along the way. Adam (London Bridge office) gave me sound, practical and cautious advice and while it wasn't always (ever?) what I wanted to hear, the result of that cautious approach was actually the perfect - and necessary - outcome in both cases. If you want to be truly screwed by a law firm, well you found it. Totally incompetent and all about wringing you for every penny you got.. and literally lying to you.

Appalling Service and Complete Failure - Family Law – Avoid at All Costs

If I could give zero stars, I would. Our experience with Raydens Ltd has been nothing short of a nightmare. Their complete incompetence and failure in handling our case forced me to restart a costly litigation process with a new solicitor—who, upon reviewing their work, was utterly shocked at their failings.

Despite their inability to progress or conclude the case, Raydens had the audacity to demand payment for services they simply did not deliver. These fees were rightfully disputed, and we escalated the matter to the ombudsman, who has yet to conclude their findings. Raydens acknowledged this dispute yet still attempted to offer a partial fee reduction—an insult considering the damage they caused causing significant delays.

To make matters worse, while the case is still under review by the ombudsman, Raydens have attempted to issue a CCJ against us, blatantly disregarding the proper dispute resolution process. This is an appalling and unethical attempt to intimidate us into paying unjustified fees.

My new solicitor reviewed their handling of the case and outright condemned their charges, confirming that they failed to provide the professional service expected of a law firm. Raydens’ incompetence not only wasted valuable time and money but also caused unnecessary stress and delays.

I strongly advise against using Raydens Ltd for any legal matters. If you value professionalism, competence, and integrity, look elsewhere. This firm has proven itself completely incapable, and I hope the ombudsman’s findings will reflect their disgraceful conduct.
