For me, the overall organisation of the workshop was very good, particularly the combination of the preliminary online introductory course with the subsequent in-person lectures and case studies. I found the online component extremely valuable, as it provided the necessary background and conceptual framework to follow and meaningfully engage with the more practical and complex topics presented during the workshop. Without this preparation, I believe it would have been much more difficult to fully benefit from the case studies and discussions during the in-person course.

More broadly, the workshop also made me reflect on scientific communication itself. It demonstrated how easily the essential scientific message can become obscured by an excessive amount of information, detail and, sometimes, unnecessary self-expression. One of the most valuable lessons for me was therefore the importance of communicating more clearly, concisely and purposefully. We should aim to reduce the volume of information we deliver and focus more deliberately on the key message we want our audience to understand and retain.

It’s really interesting to have tips on how to make scientific concepts more accessible. The feedback from classmates on specific activities to carry out is very useful.

An incredibly intensive and highly practical training! Despite the large amount of prep material, every module was delivered with clarity and high added value. As a communicator rather than a researcher, I found these Science Communication insights immensely beneficial.

The instructor was great. Very knowledgeable, but also entertaining, essentially exactly what you want from a trainer. At first, I was put off about the assignments in advance and the videos to watch, but completely changed my mind. I understand their purpose and value to the course. On of the best workshops I have attended at the DKFZ.

The online courses were well structured and presented very good, so it was easy to follow and stay tuned. In the practical session all skilss were solidified and practical examples heleped to learn most efficiently.

The online course set a great foundation for the in person session. The little exercises during the online part helped especially, there could have been even more of them in my opinion.
Establishing guiding principles and backing them up with psychology and science (Gestalt psychology, System 1/2 by Kahnemann, etc.) supported both remembering and using them later on.

Great, systematic approach to better visual communication in science. There is online learning material for general introduction into the topic, plus special sessions for slides, posters and grants - all in bite size videos. The workshop with live feedback from peers and Jernej is incredibly helpful - don´t miss it! You will see visual science communication through different "eyes" :)

Simply amazing! The presenter —Jernej— did an amazing job, putting together high quality contents and useful, practical hints. I especially appreciated the practical aspect of the course and the discussion on attendees'material (plots, presentations). Highly recommended.

The instructors were both very engaging throughout the entire workshop. The online videos were valuable in setting the groundwork to develop our skills in how to more effectively communicate visually. The live session was complemented the online videos perfectly because then we had the opportunity to hone these skills and put the theory to good use on our own cohort's examples, which made it very personal and directly applicable to my own work. I could not recommend this course more. It is a must for all scientists!

Honestly, seeing the course for the first time, I thought it would be more or less useless, but I did get a good recommendation from a flatmate. Turns out, I had the completely wrong idea. While a lot of concepts I already knew and were using, it does give a good formalization to them and a framework through which one can approach preparing communication oriented content. Jernej is highly involved, thoughtful and makes you feel heard. Overall a great experience.

I had the opportunity to follow online courses and the online workshop and it was very engaging. The format is really nice to follow, interactive and give the chance to get a lot of feedbacks. All the insights provided were high-quality and I would definitely recommend it.

This course really helped with some problems every scientist struggles and pointed out some things which we don't pay enough attention to, so now I know better what to focus on and how to improve my visual communication.
