Basic model is ok. Avoid the subscription!
I liked the idea of the device but the advanced model doesn’t have the flashing light which seems important to locate someone in trouble. The real issue is the subscription. It took a long time to be able to use the app (necessary for security features) when I got a new phone. Then cancelling the subscription was a nightmare. No one would respond to emails. Good luck figuring out how to contact customer service in the app. I finally got someone to respond to the online chat after opening and closing it a few times. This is just a company using scare tactics and I worry they aren’t dependable enough when it matters. Get the basic model or one of the many cheaper alternatives elsewhere.

I bought 3. One for myself and the others as gifts. Got them all set up. The problem is their app continually shuts down. So the thing is nothing but a noise maker. You go to the website and a chat box pops up you try to start a chat and they tell you to email them. Then it shows they are closing in 10 mins. How are they closing if it's a 24 hour service. There is no customer service phone number to call. Ali and Amy Ferber should be ashamed. If you were in a bad situation you'd be in trouble cause this thing is worthless!
No one at the Birdie company will talk to me.
I bought this product for my granddaughter because she was taking a trip out of the country and I thought this would be good and easy enough for her to carry on her crossover bag. My daughter and granddaughter worked on it for about an hour they finely got it signed up and working. She was suppose to get the first month free. After owing it for 30 days my daughter was charged a dollar amount that didn't match up to anything. At the same time I was charged for 2 months of the subscription. My daughter could not get a hold of anyone so she just canceled what she had at her end. I contacted Birdie and they requested all of my receipts. I sent all of them and told them I did not set up the app or any of the contact for this Birdie. That was 3 weeks ago. I have heard nothing back from them. Lucky I bought it thru Paypal and explained my situation to them and they reimbursed the 2 auto payments that I did not sign up for and blocked them from my account. I don't know where all the good reviews are coming from because I couldn't get anyone to talk to me about this situation. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Device did not work out of the box. Activating the alarm does not work. No response when asking for refund or exchange on email or instagram DM. When I posted under an instagram post asking for advice they reported my account. Cheap rubbish. Obviously a scam company.
SCAM ALERT - Birdie+ Device does NOT work, and Company does not honor refund of defective products
Where do I begin? The device simply does not work. They advertise that with a push of a button, a safety call can be activated. I spent no less than an hour testing this. What they said is simply not true. The only way the safety call can be activated is if you follow this 5-step process: 1) turn on/activate your phone 2) put in your phone pin, 3) activate the birdie app on your phone, 4) go back to your birdie device to push that button, 5) then a call can be activated. They will tell you that as long as the app is active in the background, the call will go through. I have tested this many times, and this is a lie. If I have to go through all these steps in emergency situations, I may as well just call 911 or a friend. Why would I need a device? Their customer support is no help. Despite me asking for a return of their defective device multiple times, they still have not responded. Worst company ever. They do not support women safety. Don't be fooled. It's a scam.

When I got my devices and one for a friend the ad said there was a deal to get your subscription free for a year. I have the receipt for 2 annual subscriptions for the year- cost 0.
Imagine my surprise when they charged me for an annual subscription for a year 30 days later. Talked to 3 diff reps who said I agreed to the 30 day trial- I have the receipts that say otherwise. Oh and guess what they don’t do refunds on subscriptions.
Ironic that a company supposed to be helping women be safe from predators is one itself.
Easy to Activate But Wasn’t Helpful
My mom gave this to me for an international travel. Though cute and TSA-approved, it is a faulty design. I pulled it out of the box while packing for my trip, and the tool was activated. In shock that it was activated so quickly, I had trouble putting the tool back together. Beyond giving me a terrible migraine, I’m even more frustrated that my mom and partner did not hear the birdie sound itself but me yelling for help. Absolutely terrible gift.
