I ordered an emergency sleeping bag but was charged for TEN pure water straws in addition to the emergency sleeping bag. I immediately returned the straws, then later the emergency sleeping bag which could be bought on Ebay for a better deal and service. It took over two months to receive my refunds. Customer service is slow to return calls and/ or emails.
The products were shipped to me in good condition and fast.
I recommend someone avoids buying from this company as there are better options.
Update- there is no need for me to respond. The review has all of the information needed for you to improve your service.

Purchased 5 emergency sleeping bags to carry with myself also 2 in the wife’s ride. Just a little insurance as you never know. Good service and responsive company. Have not had to use but at least a little better prepared if needed. Will do business again.

I bought these for my grandkids, a friend & myself. We keep them in our cars for the cold Michigan winter weather!! We feel well protected!!

I purchased 2 survival bags 1 for my daughter and 1 for myself, we lost power for 9 days due to a storm and the fireplace only kept the living room warm we slept on the two couches we were warm, dry extremely comfortable! Its amazing how fast you run out of gas for the generator even with two extra 5 gallon cans which kept the furnace & fridge on very low just to not crack the walls or keep the pipes from freezing! But the bags are what saved us kept us comfortable! We bring them into the car when we travel you never know how long you will wait for AAA and if they will reach you at all! It gives me as a mother a great sense of relief to know that we will be warm comfortable dry and safe from fumes of the exhaust! And keeping my child & myself warm is most important! I need to get 2 more to stash in the car so no more back & forth stuff!

I ordered 10 of the emergency sleeping bags on 1/25 after seeing the sale and that customers reported receiving their orders within the week. Perfect! Order placed, card charged immediately. Well, a week and a half went by with nothing. I reached out for a shipping update only to get a response that the order was on the way (2/1). I was annoyed it was running behind but whatever. I received the order on 2/8. At this point, I no longer have a use for them and haven’t even opened the package. Instead I reached out to “chat” on 2/9 asking for a refund and received a canned response that a ticket was created and someone will reach out. Nothing. I opened another “chat” on 2/12 asking for a status update for a return only to receive another canned response saying the same (ticket created, they’ll reach out). Nothing since. At this point I’m just irritated with the lack of communication. I’m sorry if they were bombarded with orders & couldn’t keep up, but that should’ve been considered and planned for when opting to have a sale. The return policy shows 30 days. I’m not holding my breath for a response. If one does come in, it’ll probably be on 2/25 when the 30 day mark is up - and I’ll be stuck with 10 bags I no longer need. In the meantime, they sit, unopened, on a table at home. I’m happy for those with a positive experience - and the company seems to have pretty innovative products - but unfortunately my experience has been very lackluster.
UPDATE: After looking at other reviews, it was mentioned to look in the spam folder for a company response. I had a response from them in my spam folder (which is weird considering none of the “ticket created” responses went to spam). I completed the form to return and am waiting for them to review it…
UPDATE (3/20): I was emailed instructions on how to return my items and did so in mid-February. I had to pay for the shipping but was finally credited today for my return. While a slow-going process all around, I will say I’m content with the final result.

Back in December 2025 I ordered emergency sleeping bags from Sierra Madre Research. I then discovered this company appears to engage in shady business practices and in some cases possibly fraudulent business practices. At this point I emailed them to cancel my order. They responded stating that a shipping tag had been created. Whatever that was supposed to mean. I again sent an email requesting my order be cancelled and my purchase price be refunded. No answer or response of any kind. My December credit card statement showed they hard charged it the day I placed my order. But the statement did not show a refund. Now, the last day of 2026 they send me an email stating my order had been shipped. How can you ship an order that was cancelled a month ago? If this isn’t a fraudulent business operation I don’t know what is.

I ordered five sleeping bags and all were received intact, and in a timely fashion, given the busy Christmas shopping season. I actually just recently gifted them to my (adult) children, so they could keep them in their cars for their road trips. They are compact and easily tucked into trunks, car doors, dufflebags, wherever it works. I feel much better that my "children," (and my grandchildren), have some survival equipment with them now, as we continue to encourage them to continue to gather emergency supplies for future unexpected events. Better to be prepared ...

I have been a customer of Sierra Madre since 2018. I have bought and used almost every product they make. I have the wonder Puffle blankets in all temp ratings. I have the innovative Ninox Lay Flat Hammock System which is by far the most phenomenal sleep system made. I have the multi functional Hot Pocket and the versatile DelSur mid layer Jacket. Just today I ordered 2 of the Emergency Survival Blankets for my Go Bag. Every single product has met or exceeded my wildest expectations. I can't recommend SM any higher that this.

If I could leave a zero review I would. I was interested in the sleeping bags. Ordered some and of course then a bubble pops up for another offer- drinking straws- so I click on it assuming it will show me the price and then ask for confirmation on the straws. Nope- automatically goes into the cart and ordered. I email right away saying I made an accidental purchase. I get on the chat on the website. They tell you a ticket has been made and someone will get back to you shortly. Well multiple emails, multiple unanswered phone calls and multiple online chat and tickets made later and nothing. Four days later I still have heard nothing but of course two large purchases showed up on my credit card. Most normal companies respond if not right away, within 24 hours and the silence from this company speaks volumes. Being overwhelmed with orders is no excuse for lack of customer service, especially when your products can end up being expensive. My concern now is will I actually receive the order and when I do- I am going to just ship it right back, will I be credited back? I have no interest in using a product from a company that is clearly taking advantage of people, especially during these hard times. Shame on you.

Finally received the order today after a month of waiting. Admittedly, it started when my bank appeared to show I was double charged. When I replied that I figured it out, I waited for the order but didn't get it. When I emailed, I finally got the answer that the order was suspended until the problem was resolved. I would have never known it had I not emailed them. My problem is that communication is very poor. When you send an email you get "a ticket has been created...." and then some answered some not. Would I purchase anything from Sierra Madre again, I would have to think long and hard. The product seems to be okay, but would it be worth the potential hassle. Not sure.

I wanted the sleeping bags, only. I bought 3 of them. It was supposed to be $46.99 for 3. Next thing I know, they charged me for insurance and express delivery. Neither of which I consented to. Suddenly, my credit card is blowing up as they have charged me for purity straws - 28 of them - in the sum of $248.00!!!. I called, wrote. Someone called me back and said they would refund me for the straws, insurance and express delivery. I even received a confirmation email. That was 2 weeks ago. No refund.

I ordered two sleeping bags more than three weeks ago; my card was charged for the total (plus additional unapproved expenses, which they claim will be refunded), but to date my items are simply listed in "pre-ship" status. Every call goes to voicemail; when I e-mail asking when I can expect my items to ship, I get a reply telling me they're overwhelmed with orders, and "appreciate my patience". They were more than willing and able to charge my card immediately, but do not seem to be able to produce the items I ordered.

I ordered on December 8, 2025, 10 emergency sleeping bags, 10 emergency shelters and 10 water filter life straws as gifts for family for Christmas. I even paid for the extra warranty and insurance for shipping. Well nothing has shown up. I sent emails and called. I did receive emails back and was provided two different tracking numbers. The carrier is Yanwen. The last update was on December 22, 2025. I did receive an email from Thelma apologizing for the delay and stating they were overwhelmed with orders. However, I can’t get through on the phone number left in their email. What is disappointing is that I could have ordered through Amazon their product and had delivery in less than 10 days.
January 11, 2026 - Update : 1235526
Well after more than a month my products arrived. The package was delivered but the packaging was torn open. Fortunately everything was there. I am glad this experience is over.

I just recently ordered an item from this company 2 days ago, only to find out that they are shipping it out to a wrong address which I've never lived at. Its all the way up in Connecticut and I reside in Illinois. When I tried to contact the company numerous of times...at least 8 different times, via emails, texts, online chat, phone calls, I was either hung up on or re-directed back to the beginning and having to start all over again with the customer service department!!! This went on for hours. This company is very deceiving and unprofessional and does not care after they take your money! They are literally going to ship my order to someone else across the country because they dont want to return my messages or emails or phone calls so I can bring their shipment error to their attention. At this point I'm pretty convinced this is fraud or spam and will be reporting them tomorrow morning since they clearly have chosen to not respond back!

I ordered a n Ember Jacket Nov 25th that was to come with a free hot pocket. I received confirmation of my order together with the order number. I have not received it and have contacted (by chat) the company. I have had three seperate ticket numbers opened asking for the tracking number for the shipment. I have also called their number and left a voicemail. Is this a legit site? Should I report to Paypal? I am very frustrated as this is a main gift for my son and I am not getting any response from the seller. Suggestions please.

Horrendous customer service! I ordered ten of their sleeping bags. They sent me ONE. No one ever answers the phone, it goes to voice mail every time. I was getting somewhere with emails to customer service rep "Thelma" but she has stopped responding to me and I'm out $100 in the meantime. Opened a refund claim with PayPal to get my money back because this company is untrustworthy. Don't buy from them.
Update: I appreciate that I did get a response at last. Frustrated that it took PayPal's involvement to get things sorted.
