Never use this company. They will give you the wrong car, unwashed, smelly and offer no solution. Scam company. Stay away.
Beware of sixt iceland
Beware of sixt iceland! When first they said they will pick us at the airport instead we have to collect the car at their office which near the airport and we have to use the shuttle bus to get it, and when i signed the contract they gave me different car that i rent from their website, they said the car was not available at the moment and worst is they didn’t do inspection and just said that they have Windblown front passenger door problem but they not write it on the contract etc but i have videoing the car to see there’s stract or damage and they even gave me a very dirt car 😂😂.
And when i returned the car they finally do inspections and said that i have damage the car for Windblown front passenger door has been damage because of me and charge me ISK 500K deposit which increase to ISK 600K to repair the problem which is for me that’s absolute riddiculous fee to repair that.
And off course i didn’t want to pay that crazy money for what i didn’t do, and i came back to the airport by myself and came back to my country. Then in 2 days the manager emailed me said sorry and will return the deposit which i have received, but the SIXT experiences has made my Iceland trip becomes unpleasant.
And from i learned the staff of SIXT Iceland doing scams only to get the Deposit money from the tourist bacause they know we’re in hurry and if i paid the ISK 600K deposit they will say thay for repair Car it cost ISK 500K which they have collaboration with the workshop, and whoever using the Car i used will get the same treatment.
So once again beware of SIXT Iceland!! They know how to get money from the tourist
Stone chip on windscreen
On returning the vehicle they found a chip in the windscreen, was told the the car was checked prior to collecting and there was no damage, fortunately for me I took a video and it clearly showed the chip was there. Please take pictures and videos of everything.
Insurance fraud
Do not rent from this company. They scam people with small dents and rock chips. We rented a car with dents allover it, was even listed on the rental agreement with with all of the current dents circled. We returned the car and they said there was a small dent below the gas lid and said the deductible was over $400 usd. So basically they are keeping the deductibles and not repairing the vehicles. This is an insurance scam. Please do not fall victim to this.
Rented a car for 1 day
Rented a car for 1 day. Took pictures of all damage and a video. I asked would check the car over when I dropped it off and they said they would not and do it later - email 30 mins after drop off to say new damage. See what happens as sent the picture and a video and really poor to do that - be aware.
Do not rent a car here
This is not where you want to rent a car. The car I rented had a lot of damage. I was charged 1500 dollars for a new windshield. They may look cheaper but in the end you pay way more. You pay to fix damage you did not do.
Rented a car in Reykjavík. Absolutely no help with flat tire
Rented a car in Reykjavík. Got a flat tire in east Iceland. Called Friday night at 9 pm, no answer. Repeatedly called the next morning to ask for help. Finally got someone to answer and it’s not covered under basic insurance. They told me to contact them through what’s app for service, but again they don’t respond either. Finally had to just call a local auto service company to come fix it (hopefully they will come). Never renting from this company again.

If you rent from Sixt, take pictures /video the entire vehicle especially the windshield!
They won't tell you that before driving and they charged our credit card for damage to windshield without evidence. We drove 2 days on off/traffic pavement without other cars to rock damage the windshield which we never witnessed. Likelihood of this happening is almost non existent but they have your credit card and will scam you. I do not recommend this rental agency.

this agency is a scam! the rented duster was in poor condition (worn tires and impacts on the windshield). These elements were reported and taken into account. I didn't think to check under the vehicle and the exhaust pipe had been badly repaired. I was billed 700 euros to “repair” this damage for which I had absolutely nothing to do with it but obviously have no way of proving it. I'll never go to Sixt again, even though I trusted them. Never again!
My Worst Car Rental Experience – Reykjavik, Iceland
This was by far my worst experience renting a car. I rented a vehicle from this company, and when I picked it up near the airport, no one walked me through a proper inspection or gave me a damage report.
When I returned the vehicle at 4:00 AM, I was initially told that there were no issues or damages. However, eight days later, I received an email claiming that the windshield had a small crack less than two centimeters in size and that the entire front glass needed to be replaced. They attached low-quality photos (around 8 KB each), and even though I asked for higher-resolution images, they never provided them—the ones they sent were blurry and distorted.
I provided a video and photos clearly showing that the damage was already there before I picked up the car. These files included geolocation, date, and time stamps. Despite this, they dismissed my evidence, claiming it wasn't valid.
They charged me around €900 for the windshield replacement, which I believe was completely unnecessary and unjustified. This company appears to look for any excuse—or even invent damages after the rental—to charge customers for costly, unwarranted repairs.
I do not recommend this agency, and I will never rent from them again.

Firstly the pick up point is about 750 metres from the terminal which does not sound far. There is supposed to be a bus but there is neither a timetable nor any means to contact them. Every other car rental firm has desk in the terminal. Given the often inclement weather it’s a damp, cold challenging walk with bags!!!
On arrival my lucky dip car became entry level cheapest they had, complete with missing hub cap. But much much worse to come.
I was hit by a stone which cracked the windscreen. No big deal really, it’s a common enough occurrence. I am insured via Amex and had declined all their over priced insurances. I told them of the issue and they inspected the car.
Sixt “ Yes the car needs a new screen - sign here - we will email paperwork. “
Me “Ermm No how much will you charge me and I want this resolved before I leave.”
Sixty “ 150,000 kroner or £872” for a Toyota Aygo windscreen. It’s a windscreen not a new car! It is day light robbery and Sixt should be wearing masks.
Oh and no bus back to the terminal though the agent who relieved me of almost £900 did give me a lift.
Extremely Disappointed – Terrible Customer Service and Lack of Communication
I highly recommend avoiding this company if you're considering renting a car in Iceland. My experience was nothing short of a disaster, and I’m incredibly frustrated by the lack of support I received.
I rented a car from November 29 to December 9, 2024. Due to a health issue, I had to cut my trip short on December 4 while in Egilsstaðir. I reached out to customer service to request dropping off the car at a nearby location, and they responded the next day saying I could do so for an additional £200. I replied immediately, but received no further communication.
As my condition worsened, I continued my trip, only to find myself unwell again when I reached Akureyri. I emailed and called customer service for help, but I never received a response. The person who answered my call was rude and told me I had to wait for an email reply, which I never got.
In the end, I had to drop the car at a parking lot in Akureyri and continue to Reykjavík by bus. Even after emailing the details of where I left the car, I got no reply. It wasn’t until I walked to the office at the airport on December 9 to return the keys that I learned the staff there was not from customer service and had no idea about my situation.
Because of this company’s negligence, I ended up spending extra money and time in a stressful, unwell state. I am a frequent traveler and tour agent, and I can confidently say I will never rent from them again. I won’t recommend them to anyone.
This has been the worst rental experience I’ve had, and I strongly urge others to look elsewhere.

Went to collect a car. I had brought this online and also purchased a collision waiver, whilst this was accepted had no record of my deposit and tried to sell me further insurance.
Also then told me they had not checked the car over for damage.
I drove very carefully. Absolutely no bumps.
There was nobody available when we got back at 2.15pm so dropped of the keys l.
I have now received a note saying I have scratched the car X2 which is completely inaccurate and also stating I dropped the car off at 4.31pm, however the inspection was apparently done at 3.52pm.
I will be seeking legal advise as this is a clear scam! Do not use!

Amazing experience
Rented a mistubishi cross hybrid. They were efficient and reliable in all aspects. Due to glacial flooding closing the road to Vik, we had to drive around the whole island to make our flight & return the car. They were happy to waive the sizeable extra mileage fee, which is extremely kind and very much appreciated. Will definitely be using Sixt in the future.

Our flight got in late and the rental company was closed, they cancelled our reservation and would not give us the same car or original milage agreement. When we brought the car back they claimed there was a small dent on the side of the vehicle and charged an excessive amount. I'm quite sure the dent existed before we left, but we had been so annoyed with the original experience that we had not taken a picture. The checkout experience took nearly an hour as the agent took forever to send the report.

I rented a car for 1 Day to go to Blue Lagoon. Total 97 Kms. I refueled teh car (6.9 liters). Yet they assessed that the car was 7/8 filed at return and 8/8 at start and charged me 62 Euros. A complete rip-off.
