We just had our new system installed and the installers did a wonderful job. They kept me informed and answered any questions that I had. I would recommend Smith Monitoring to everyone I know.

We have had an absolutely horrible experience with this company. Smith Monitoring admitted to cashing a check that was not made out to them that they collected for the City of Dallas Alarm Permit division. If an individual did something like that, it would be considered check fraud or theft. Smith Monitoring has also left my family without security since our April 20th installation date and they aren't taking any reasonable action to rectify the situation other than finally returning our calls and making promises they have yet to deliver on.

4/20/15 - a check for $50 is requested and taken by Smith's installer along with our completed City of Dallas Permit request form
5/6/15 - the check that was addressed to the City of Dallas was cashed with a stamp from "Home Security LLC" which the company that owns Smith Monitoring
April & May - our alarm equipment did not work and we waited over a month for an installer to fix the equipment. During this time, installers missed two appointments. They simply did not show up or call. No one from Smith ever reached out to reschedule either. We were stuck at home in each instance as well as when an installer finally did show up to fix the system.
June & July - the "fix" to the equipment did not work and we have received numerous false alarms
Ongoing - each false alarm has led to me or my wife having to leave work or whatever we are doing to check on our house.
Ongoing - during each false alarm call from Smith Monitoring the reps have told us that we do not have a City of Dallas Alarm Permit. In every single one of these calls we have then informed the Smith reps that we submitted our permit and payment through Smith at installation, our check was cashed to the City of Dallas and that Smith should have the permit information on file. This generally leads to argument with the Smith rep telling us that Smith does not handle the permit form and does not take our Alarm Permit check during installation.
Last Week - we finally get someone from the Dallas police to call us back and inform us that they don't have an application or payment from us
Monday - Our bank begins researching our check as a potential fraud case related to Smith Monitoring
Yesterday - An employee confirmed that Smith Monitoring does indeed take the Alarm Permit Request form and the check during the installation
Today - Smith Monitoring's head of customer service
Currently - We are out $50 for a non-existent alarm permit which we had to re-submit to the City of Dallas. Our drought of security is also ending as we have a new system being installed by the company that I had meant to call from the beginning. Smith purposely has a similar name to a reputable alarm company to draft off their brand.

Here's where Smith Monitoring is continuing to add insult to injury:
They have not provided our requested written notice (an email is ok) that we will never receive any charges Smith Monitoring, of any kind, ever as they have promised verbally.
They have not provided our requested notice that any agreement we may have with Smith Monitoring is terminated nor have they given us any proof our $50 refund for our permit fee is in progress.

I would recommend that you go with ANY security system and monitoring service over Smith Monitoring. Do not be fooled by the seemingly familiar name, they have zero pedigree in quality security.

Installation was set for 12 noon, they called an hour earlier and let us know they would be early, which was great! Very friendly, professional installation team. Explained every detail amazingly. Would highly recomend Smith to anyone!
