I spent over five years investigating how to shoehorn a heatpump into my property to enable me to reduce my carbon footprint and disconnect from mains gas. This was throught with many difficulties and the outcome was that it would be too expensive and not viable.
Then I discovered Tepeo and their Zero Emission Boiler (ZEB), this direct gas boiler replacement has allowed me to reduce my CO2 emissions by more than two and a half tonnes annually costing well under half of what a heat pump would have done.
The ZEB works with my existing smart heating system (Tado) and supports OpenTherm which automatically adjusts flow temperature depending on heat demand.
The installation team from Tepeo was very professional, answered all of my questions and even bricked up the flue from my old gas boiler.
A highly recommended system for those who are finding it too difficult to move to a heatpump.

Highly recommended for anyone who wants to contribute to net zero. Plugs into the existing central heating and replaces the fossil fuel boiler. If, like me, you can do without gas altogether, you will save the gas standing charge into the bargain.

We had our zeb installed in July 23, instalation was very easy, great work by the team. Its very quite and so far so very good. Clever how all works, easy to use the app. Would recommend. Zeb customer service always available if need.

I was an early buyer of the Tepeo ZEB. Nice company to work with, always very open. I'm in a 3 bed Victorian house, all electric. ZEB's 40kwh (charged on green e7) is not enough on very cold days, so I need to use full rate electricity to top up. (I knew this beforehand). But my A2A heat pump (£2,500 - not A2W) makes it all as cheap as gas to run.

We removed our gas boiler in November 2022 and replaced it with a ZEB. Simple 'swap' of units, with no need to rip up flooring or replace radiators. We already have an EV so had off peak cheap electricity and therefore can 'charge' the ZEB for minimal cost, and save over £150 a year in the gas standing charge alone (as we no longer have any gas). As for the ZEB being a boiler, it works well - the radiators in the house work exactly as before, using the same (NEST) thermostat and so on. If you didnt know we had a thermal store rather than a gas boiler, you wouldnt be able to tell (aside from the absence of local pollution which was one of the key reasons for our change). I'd make the same change again with hindsight.

Our ZEB was installed last December and does just what we need. It has been part of our journey to go fossil fuel free, which is now complete, hurray! Using Octopus Go, solar panels and a Powerwall 2 battery in conjunction with the ZEB, we will have a total fuel bill for this year less than £800 including running the car (MG5) for 6000 miles. That is a spectacular success from where I am sitting and the ZEB is doing just what we hoped for. We use an immersion for water heating and use the ZEB for space heating. All the electricity we need is taken off peak.

Sept 2023 Old oil boiler gave up in 2020 and its position in our grade 2 listed house meant no balanced flue possible. Also nowhere to install heat pump. Realised Zeb was the answer from their very start but had to wait 2 years for octopus go and Tepeo to cover Norfolk. Doesn’t heat the whole house, but we have 2 woodburners for spot heating, and we live in the kitchen anyway in the winter, so just use ZEB to get the kitchen nice and warm for us at 6 am. It took time to learn how to control ZEB and the new menus have helped a lot. Its off in the summer when we use immersion heaters for hot water (cheap octopus go for those too) NOW octopus is giving us 2-4 pm free electricity 3 days a week for the next year to help unload the grid. Tepeo and Octopus are a great team, very responsive, and definitely the future for the domestic market. Totally brilliant. Builders around us admit taking out heat pumps and reinstalling oil boilers in newish properties. 😩

20 Sept 2024. Asked to write something again! Well, nothing but good. A free upgrade, as our Zeb was an early model, so new electronics and also a plumbing upgrade in the boiler. Now using Zeb in the summer for hot water, as just heating to 20% gives the option for a hot water tank boost in the evening. Often not charging at night as so much free daytime power to unload the grid courtesy of Octopus. All this with total simple control and monitoring on the excellent and intuitive App on your phone. If you have a classic radiator and HW tank and want to loose your gas/oil boiler, this is the future, NOT a heat pump.

The product itself is quite amazing. It doesn't hide behind various jargon, what you see is what you get. It does heat up a little when charged, assuming that the unit is housed inside the property, it would be 100% efficient as all of the heat will be contained inside the house and not exhausted out to the atmosphere. The only caveat is that the unit is about the size of a washing machine and weighs a fair bit so it cannot be wall hung or cost effectively placed into the attic. For us it replaced a 10 year old condensing boiler which we inherited with the house when we bought it and so far based on gas costs in 1st half 2023, the ZEB was saving us about £1 a day worth of heating and hot water, despite using the 3x more expensive electricity as its form of fuel source. The unit heats the water inside the original heating system to the same (adjustable) temperature as a conventional gas boiler so no pipework or radiator alterations were necessary aside from plumbing in the unit itself into the existing pipework. For our house if we were to have got an air source heat pump we would have had to change out all our radiators and pipes which would have brought the cost to in the 10s of thousands, whereas Tepeo's offering was considerably less. If you have an older property, this is definitely for you! Communication with the company and the after care has been nothing short of top notch and puts some other companies to shame. We have had a couple of issues which were down to our house plumbing, not the product or the installation itself and Tepeo has helped to no end to overcome these issues, and I've never had an issue since. At the time of writing, I do not believe there is a 'green grant' available from the government, despite this being a ultra low (0 if you use trully 100% renewable electricity) carbon solution to space heating and hot water. It already is cost comparative to a high end gas boiler, but with a green grant it will be ever more competitive. Highly recommended. If your boiler is old, (or you have the spare cash) get a ZEB, you won't regret it!

I was offered the opportunity of the Tepeo through a trial scheme through my energy supplier and am so pleased I took I was given the opportunity from the initial discussions to install everything thing was made easy the support system if needed is there and the Tepeo App is easy to use couldn’t recommend enough

I have been trying to decarbonise my home and reduce my carbon footprint for some time so last year I had a Tepeo ZEB installed. It was delivered by the Tepeo team who were very professional. I’d wanted an electric boiler for some time and a heap pump wasn’t right for my house so the ZEB was an ideal solution which meant I could stop using gas in my home (which I have now done). Tepeo after-sales has been excellent and those of us early adopters have been kept in the loop about improvements and future functions, such as utilising excess solar, which is in the pipeline. The ZEB is easily controlled by an app from your mobile phone, it includes lots of functions so you can program it to suit your needs and take advantage of any smart electricity tariffs you might have, you can also see what energy it uses and the cost. The ZEB is a great alternative to a heat pump if like me it isn't suited to your home. It is another way to help us transition to a fossil fuel free future.

We were early adopters of the ZEB back in April 22. It was the obvious choice based on cost, least disruption to our legacy heating system and of course a gas-free future!! The installation went smoothly and on schedule; all of the Tepeo team were considerate of our needs and so friendly. Telephone and email support has always been first class.
Heating energy costs last winter worked out at less than £4 per day on Intelligent Octopus for our 2001 4 bed detached home in the East Midlands. The £18/ month service charge is the same as we were paying for gas boiler cover but covers so much more: 24/7 system monitoring and call out service if needed, periodic upgrades and warranty. We highly recommend Tepeo and the ZEB to anyone thinking of taking the leap into a low carbon future.

In 2022 we decided to remove our gas boiler and replace it with a ZEB because we wanted to stop burning fossil fuels and also to make the home environment healthier for our family.

The ZEB was installed neatly and easily in our cupboard under the stairs. Through last winter we stayed warm and let the ZEB do it’s thing with choosing the cheapest and greenest times to charge overnight. We replaced our old gas boiler with a Zero Emission Boiler / ZEB earlier this year... making our home completely fossil fuel free!

tepeo have been fantastic - through the initial enquiry, survey, delivery & install process. The ZEB is neat, slightly quieter than our old boiler (low hum when running) and charges up on our Octopus tariff.

The house is as warm as it's ever been, with very little change to our running costs vs our gas boiler (you can check energy use & costs in the app).

Would recommend tepeo and the ZEB to anyone who wants to reduce their carbon footprint: great product & company.
