After trying a few online courses and generally being totally confused I stumbled on The School of Photography.....what an incredible learning experience that has transformed my photography skill level in a few short weeks.
Marc explains everything in a logical and structured format.

I have been photographing for a number of years, comfortable using manual (but no claims beyond an enthusiastic amateur) and processing RAW on Lightroom for a couple of years. However, I am very aware of my shortcomings and limitations on Lightroom, and wanted to do a course to take my editing RAW files to the next level. Having looked around, I saw TSOP's Lightroom course, but was also interested in the other ones that could be taken so decided to become a member rather than sign up for just one course. Having done that, I then decided I should start at the beginning, with the introductory course (which I guess I'm about 2/3 of the way through). I was really pleased that although much of what it covers I already knew, there was (a) much that I didn't, and perhaps more importantly (b) the explanations of how things work are really well done and made me rethink in a much better way about my photography (including in areas in which I thought I had a pretty good awareness). It isn't just about the technical aspects, but about the whole approach - I've become much more thinking and analytical in how I compose shots, in thinking about light, what I'm trying to do, balancing light through aperture and shutter speed, etc. So although I've not yet come to the course that was the reason I joined in the first place, it's been a really important journey for me and what I can do in terms of capturing light and image.

I like the membership option, which will allow me to undertake the other courses at my leisure. As I discovered with the first course, although it was not the one I was initially looking for, but decided to start with just in case, it was actually really important that I did so. So membership allows me to take courses I might not otherwise have done, and if my experience from the first one is repeated, this can only be of great benefit to me developing as a photographer

As someone who has spent the last (Covid) year teaching students online, I'm enormously impressed with the quality of the teaching and approach taken. The video instruction is helpfully broken down into small sections, so it isn't just one long session. The tasks set match perfectly onto the topic, and build up to create a strong level of expertise. The tech-y bits (how to set your camera to this or that setting) are clear and helpful. But the best bit, perhaps, is also the least reliant on technology - the communication style and content. Explanations are - so far - very strong: neither too complex nor too simplistic. The analogies used to help understand are well chosen. The practical sections work well to show and illustrate the skill being taught. And the handouts are a useful, easily consulted, reminder. As a learning experience, it is excellent.

I found this course by simply googling photography courses and after reading the reviews I became a member and I haven't been disappointed. The course is delivered in a straight forward, easy to understand way with no unnecessary waffle. Marc is very engaging and his enthusiasm really rubs off on you. I have dabbled with photography for a while using books, manuals and you tube videos but I was blown away with how much I learnt from just doing this course. I've loved it!! I will definitely continue with the other courses that the The School Of Photography offers.

An easily understood, comprehensive and well presented UK online photography course. I have tried a number of others in the past but I find TSOP suits me best.
Their lessons are clear and easy to follow with well-made videos backed up with downloadable notes, plus quizzes to ensure the info has been understood correctly.
There is also a friendly community of students who share their experiences and admin respond quickly to any queries or requests.

I first purchased multiple courses and then became a member for complete ongoing access. Ultimately I switched to being a member because I value the content, guidance and information from the courses you have created. I don't recall how I originally found The School of Photography but your style of instruction fits my style of learning. You are not pretentious, you are not egotistical but rather straightforward, practical and have this perfect cadence in delivery.

All of us photographers are at different points on our photographic journey. I will admit that I had tried a couple of other "professional" photography education courses wondering if I was going to get some unique insights or education that I was not getting from you. I can tell you that the one or two that I checked out were a waste of my time and money. The School of Photography and you deliver more than I seem to be able to absorb as I always think about needing to go back to a session that you presented to refresh my mind to accomplish something I can envision, whether that is from your insights in the Complete Guide to Photography or the Photoshop course.

I wish I was not working outside of photography so that I had more time to truly apply your guidance and develop my skills further. Balancing work, family and photography is a challenge, I do appreciate the little things that I have picked up from the courses, definitely has improved my photographic work.

I am enjoying the introductory course. Although I am an enthusiastic photographer. my images never seem to come out as expected so I am working through the course and have already learnt things about my camera, which now seem obvious but just needed pointing out.

The best bits about the course is that it is progressive and you can go forward at your own pace. I like the fact the range of assignments and how they build on each other. I must admit I am more of a person to person type of learner and whilst the Facebook page is beneficial, I prefer a more individual feedback on my images. I am also reluctant to put several images of the same thing on the page. That said I have had some very valuable and useful comments to my queries.

The school of photography courses are very good so far. Ive looked at various youtube videos and other material to help my photography but I managed to get a lot of extra information out the courses I have done so far.A lot of the tips and basic settings I find are a really good starting point. I didn’t realise the importance of white balance until I done the course and now I can get the outcome I want in camera (rather than photoshop)

Having returned to Photography after 35 years, I thought I would take a structured course to start me off. I found The School of Photography by chance when viewing YouTube videos and soon, I was viewing the complimentary content they provide on their own web site. Their Complete Guide to Photography course sounded just the job and so I joined up.
I have just finished this course and I enjoyed it so much. Marc's knowledge, enthusiasm and delivery are excellent. It was great fun and I’ve learnt so much already. I am going to practice, practice, practice to drive the foundations home and then move on to the Lightroom and Photoshop course. I am happy to recommend The School of Photography.

It's been about 25 years since I've had any formal education in photography. TSOP is exactly what I was looking for and needed! It has been a refresher, as well as an introduction to new concepts and technology. Marc's teaching style is incredibly informative, easy to digest, and presented logically. And I say this with a large portion of the courses still to come. The videos and task sheets work together well and both serve as handy references. I couldn't be any happier with TSOP.

When i decided to pick up a camera i spent a year fumberling around trying to get the best out of it, but found i was still taking happy snaps. After searching round the internet i found The School Of Photography. This has changeg the way i look at Photography. Not only have i found out how to use the camera but it has gone further and tourght me how to use Lightroom and Photoshop. The way the lessons are put together suits my way of learning. I like how you are taken through each step one at a time. I have printed off every task sheet so i can revert to them as and when needed. As someone who for some time has used Lightroom but has not really appreciated or been able to utilise its full potential I embarked on the Lightroom course. It is an eye opener, only partway through this course I have learned things that have opened up Lightroom in a new way. The person leading the course, Marc, has an engaging manner which helps the student to assimilate easily what is being taught. I will finish this course and move on to another. hopefully becoming a better photographer.

Having been a photographer for about 30 years I recently enrolled in The School of Photography in order to learn a bit more about photoshop and lightroom.
I’ve learnt more about photoshop in the last 6 weeks than I have in the last 10 years.
Marcs calm precise method of explaining things is fantastic. I now know what layer masks do, it’s easy when somebody explains it clearly.
I’m moving on to the next part of photoshop now.

The studio lighting course is brilliant, why didn’t I buy 2 polystyrene boards years ago. Life is so easier now.

The School of Photography has been a great option for me. Marc is an excellent teacher and the subjects are broken up in a a way that makes it easier to understand fully. I have learnt so much from doing all his courses and I was a complete beginner. Highly recommend!

This review is going to sound like I’m getting paid. I am not, I am just a retired guy in Texas wanting to take my photography to the next level. After completing the “Complete Guide to Photography” and somewhere about halfway through the “ Complete Guide to Lightroom” my ability to frame, shoot and process my photos took a leap forward I would not have believed.

Very good videos with easily digestible lessons and tasks. The download label PDFs Task Sheets (Slide decks) are fantastic. I’ve downloaded all of the classes that I have taken so far. I print them out and post in a binder. Now I’ve got my refresher notes at hand when I need them.

I think the best videos would be the ones where Marc Newton is out with the model or the mountain bikes. It gives first a hand look at how the task should be performed or executed. It also brought up the way the camera should be held and revealed to me that I had been doing that wrong. I have been forced to begin breaking a lot old habits and learn the correct way to take photographs. I wish I had found this course several years ago. I’ve gotten excited about photography again and I would recommend this course to anyone.
