DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE A FOOD INTOLERANCE
I visited The Three Mariners with 2 other guests. The waitress was lovely and I have absolutely no complaints about her. However, I made it clear on the booking that I was dairy intolerant but it was obvious this hadn't been passed on to her. I ordered the lamb and said I was dairy intolerant. She checked with the kitchen and returned, saying the lamb was pre-prepared with a sauce that had dairy in it. As the menu said all food was prepared to order I thought this was strange but said this was ok. When my meal was presented I noticed the boiled potatoes and vegetables were shiny so I asked if they had butter on them. The waitress went away and the manager - Nadine I assume - came over. She told me that, as I said I was only dairy intolerant, the vegetables and potatoes had been cooked in butter. My friend asked if I could have plain boiled potatoes and the manager replied that if I had said I had a dairy allergy, I would not have been allowed to order the lamb. Her attitude was appalling, I've never experienced anything like it before. As the menu stated the food was cooked to order I expected the kitchen to cook the potatoes and vegetables without butter but this was clearly not the case. I told her to take it away. She didn't offer me an alternative and her parting shot was "if you come here again don't order the lamb". I ended up watching my friends eat their meals while I had nothing.
It is the first time we've been here since it changed hands and we will not be returning. I can honestly say that I have never experienced such an appalling manager of a restaurant and I eat out a lot. My recommendation is not to eat here if you have any food intolerance as it is clear that they make no attempt to work around them, even though, in my case, it would have been a very simple thing to do, particularly as, they claim, everything is cooked to order.
