I really hope these negative reviews can reach as many parents as possible to help them avoid buying these problematic devices. I wish we’d been a little more proactive in researching the Toybox Alpha Two before we purchased one for our son, as there are multiple Reddit threads and Facebook pages devoted to the problems we’ve been experiencing with our device.

At first, it seemed great. Our son printed little toys for his friends and we seemed to be getting our money’s worth. But somewhere around the fifth month, things went south and the printer kept failing and giving us the “something’s not right” message. To the company’s credit, they made it seem like they were working hard to help solve the problem, giving me a detailed list of steps to follow (none of which ever worked) and eventually sending us a new memory card, which also didn’t work.

True to form, once the sixth month hit and our warranty had expired, the desire to help us with their terrible product also expired and the best they could offer was a discounted refurbished printer or $100 off a new printer. Why on earth would we buy someone else’s used printer when our brand new one doesn’t work? And why would we buy another brand new printer when, again, this one doesn’t work?

The thing that really irritated me about the terrible customer service practice was that at no point did they ever care about all the printer food we were wasting between trying to print literally anything and following their pointless, worthless steps to repair the printer. And there’s also the $20 per month we were spending on a subscription, as they completely ignored my complaint about how the special prints that cost coins were also failing. They never even offered to refund those coins; instead replying with the same pointless steps, only to finally shut the door in my face with “there’s nothing else we can do.”

I implore other parents to do your research before buying a 3D printer. Other companies might charge more, but quality should be a priority and you simply won’t get that from Toybox.

My son is 8 and loves this printer! It's so easy and all his projects are at his finger tips. I also love using it!

We are waiting for some of the cool colors to come back in stock and he is excited to make everyone gifts this year for Christmas. My machine came without the unclogger tool, and the sent it out to me fast and free of charge!

I bought this for my 11 year old so I could be hands off and let him experience the 3d printer hobby at his own pace. This machine was probes every single day. He got all of 3 months out of it before it failed

The worst part is customer service drug their feet with ridiculous delays beyond its warranty period. The units are locked into a native exclusive application you have a serial number a date registered and a user name with customer profile but the excuse was none of the above could be verified for warranty purposes 🫠🤦‍♂️ right that checks out..
with these little throw away printers costing as much as the standard entry level adult units DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY on toybox

I bought a printer for my grand son for Christmas last year however his parents had already purchased one. I followed all of the return instructions but never did get a refund!! So I guess I am out of luck! 300 dollars down the drain!!!!!

Purchased for my twin grandson's 8th birthday. It was a big hit. So far, since April, they have created over 100 3D items. Would love to see more filament options that aren't always sold out.

My toybox is easy to use. My daughter's love making things with it.

I enjoy finding items to print. I don’t understand Bolts, Credits or AI bolts. I tried to create something but wish I had more information on each item. I guess I’m more of a manual/instruction guide user. The trial and error method wasted food. Overall I love playing with my TOYBOX.

The 3D printer and web app is great, but I had an experience that I wish to share. My 7-year-old son was clicking around to get to the page in the portal where he could print something he was trying to print. Somehow he accidentally upgraded from Plus to Pro. It immediately charged $20. When I told support about what happened, they said, and I quote,
"unfortunately, we’re unable to issue a refund for the accidental charge".

EDIT: after I posted this review, they gave me a refund, so I've changed my rating to 4 stars, because I love the printer, and the platform, and the company seems pretty good too.

This printer is a good entry-level device, but the features underwhelmed me. The maximum print size was VERY small (I own an Alpha Two and can’t even print things larger than a POKER CARD), the printer has low gap precision, and it has had problems in the past with warping. I used to be impressed with this printer, but now I desperately want to get an upgrade. Good entry-level device, but very limited.

I wish I had read these reviews first.

This was my daughter’s main Christmas present and it stopped working after 3 prints.

I have tried everything to fix it.

Seems like a LOT of people have the same problem.

garbage ; doesn't connect to wife

Got this for my niece and nephew a year ago and they’ve printed so many things! They don’t use it quite as much anymore, and I told them that I’d pay for a one year subscription. When I requested that the subscription be cancelled after the year mark, they cancelled it immediately. I seem to have had a very different experience than the other reviewers.

The printer wouldn't connect. Customer service gave us the runaround for months, proposing solution after solution that don't work. Eventually they stopped responding altogether. Wasted money and a terrible experience.

Zero stars if I could. Missing package and I am having to fight for a refund. Waiting weeks for my money back will not be helpful.

Very confused with the negative reviews here. We’ve had this since Christmas 2024. It was immediately plug and play and simple enough that my 9 year old happily uses it with no help needed, including switching the filament colors. So far zero problems.

Despite all efforts, following all "help" articles posted and following the instructions sent by the support team, the printer will not connect to the WiFi and therefore we have never been able to use it. A very expensive mistake and a very sad STEM obsessed 10yo are the result of this. Sadly it seems we are not the only ones.

Printer does not print any item properly if it takes over ten minutes or so. I have done all the trouble shooting possible and I tried contacting customer service numerous times, no response at all. I was hoping for a replacement printer but now I would just like to get a refund for this item, but I can tell they're going to wait until I'm outside of my return window before they contact me.. if they do at all. I don't see this company staying in business for long. Save yourself the headache and buy another product. I wish I would have.

The printer itself is very good - decent quality and an array of great toys to print. However! many of the premium toys do not print off correctly and appear to have design issues where the same print will faulter at the same points time and time again wasting food and money. This NASA space rocket is partciulr poor and it appears the machine cannot cope with parts that take 2/3hrs not matter how you setup the machine or precautions you take.
This issue is exacerbated by the very poor level of customer service and the general customer experience. There is no way to contact support other than via online contact form which you then receive an email confirming your query. Weeks and weeks go by and nobody responds despite numerous follow-up emails. Very disappointing,

Our printer started off well, but then the prints just did not work. We tried the troubleshooting tips, worked for a print or two, but then failure again. We have contacted customer support, but one month later still no reply. Going to ask for a refund. Really disappointed in customer service.

Great on-ramp for 3d printing (we have the Alpha 2 model). Takes a bit of figuring out and not everything prints first time but for simple stuff you get it working well. The software that comes with the printer is great with lots of options and ideas for printing. Very good educational toy.
